for those who had vettes and now have 370z or have driven both, what made you decide on the 370?
reason i ask is because i was gonna buy a vette this spring. economy and gm situation put that on hold perhaps permanently. what i'd like is the power of the vette in the z. but alas.... is not to be.. so how about some comparison info? |
crossshopping...
IS-F, 335i, and M3...
|
I didn't cross shop any cars. I was watching college football bowl games and Nissan was airing their 370Z ad at least every 10-15 minutes (seriously), so after all the bowl games ended I went and bought one. Hey, it was a badass ad. I was actually going to just keep my 05 350Z until I saw the 370Z.

I looked at:
Used c6 vette (felt like it would fall apart long term, but was very fast) Used 996 911 - no wow factor 335i (wanted a true sports car, with 2 seats - that is what the wife decided) s2000 - too small and too tight WRX - too soft Mazdaspeed3 - too much of an econobox - small Boxster - a little slow, tough on maintenance costs If I could add any: Genesis, Camaro It really came down to 335i and Z, and the Z won out. |

has that add worked on you? It really worked on me lol It really makes me want to buy a 2.0 Turbo and modify it for the track hehehe. |
We had a 06 Solstice, and were waiting for the Solstice GXP coupe to come out. We found ourselves excusing quite a few of the Soltice's shortcomings based on it's price, i.e," Yeah, so what if the interior has too much plastic- it's only a $20K car". But when push came to shove, and the GXP coupe price (for what we wanted) came out to be over 30K, alot of what we felt made the Soltice a cheap car had not been addressed in what is now not a cheap car. For us, the only other option was the 370Z, and regardless of price, there have been no regrets.

Yep! thats the one. Great commercial!! :driving: |
I was thinking of the G37s, but then realized that I wanted more sport than luxury. I have a '09 FX35 if I want the luxurious part. Nissan/Infiniti really make some quality machines, and they just keep getting better. I bought mine the day the pricing came out. I never drove one or saw one in person. I just knew by owning my other Infinitis and Nissans it was the one.

Used C6 Z51 with low miles
New Camaro (Im a big Camaro junky) MAYBE a Cobalt SS/TC That was it - didnt want AWD, didn't want FWD (although making a Cobalt SS/TC track machine sounded kinda fun...). |
I didn't really have a specific type of car in mind so my list is quite hefty:
2010 Camaro Lexus IS 350 BMW 135/335 Mbenz C350 Audi TT Audi A5 Infiniti G37 Honda S2K Mitsu EVO X Anyways I settled on the Z because 1. It's new 2. I'm 22 and the Z has a perfect blend of sport(70%) and every day drivability(30%.) |
For the people listing IS-Fs and M3s, are we talking on the used market, because brand new....they are more in GT-R territory at least price-wise.
|
Evo X- Pro: Telepathic steering, Con: Poor fuel economy, own a WRX and figured I'd didn't need another AWD performance sedan
Elise SC: Pro: Pure driving bliss, handles like a go cart Con: Worried about long term reliability Cayman S: Pro: Amazing all around performance, beautiful design Con: Dealer unwilling to drop price below MSRP (this was in March, right around the release date of the '09 model), high cost of maintenance No regrets on the Z |
It seems everyone unanimously compliment the Elise and I really drive one myself now. How great is it on the track? I've looked at several pictures and it doesn't seem like a daily driver at all, though I see one at my office parking everyday.
