For those of you who have gotten rid of your 370Z
So I was curious as to why people got rid of their 370Z that have. Several reasons I see for getting rid of a 370Z would be needing more than 2 seats, wanting something with more power (e.g. corvette), or just not being able to afford the car anymore.
I'd love to hear from any and everyone who owned a 370Z at one point and no longer do. If I were to get rid of mine, it would be for something with more torque like a vette or possible an AWD vehicle. :driving: |
Most who upgraded or swapped rides don't stay active on this forum so your responses may be lacking and inconsistent. From my recollection, ex-owners of Z cars tend to go for the 2011+ Mustang, Evo X, and STI because of similar power and the availability of rear seats and more storage. The mustang owners swapped because of more power.

i sold my 370z because i bought a 300zx TT. I really love that car and put way more time and money into it and the end result was faster and more fun than my 370z, at least for me.. Then i was left with 2 2 seater cars and needed something with a back seat, and figured as long as i was being practical, AWD too, so i bought a 335xi coupe. i'm happy with my stable now.

I had mine for 18 months. By self-imposed martial law inside my brain I am not allowed to own a car for more than 18 months. *twitch*

I managed to go about 6 months or so resisting any and all temptation to go and test drive one, until one Saturday no one decided to show up to our then-weekly 370Z meet. Bored, I decided to drive on over to the Ford dealership and test drove a 5.0 with the Brembo brake package. Two weeks later I had a deal worked out with our very own Lou Fusz and that got me into the car I'm driving right now. So why did I switch? I had the Z for a while and felt like I had a lot of fun with it and wanted to try something different. Aside from some quirks with the Z it wasn't that I wasn't happy with the Z anymore, it was that I was satisfied with my experience and felt it was a good time to switch cars. Alternate reasoning: Why did I switch? Because no one showed up to the Z meet! :icon17: |
I didn't buy my nismo for packing more than two people in it.
I didn't buy my nismo to drive it through snow. I didn't buy my nismo in hopes it will get faster all by itself. however! I did make plans/sacrifices to continue to own it. Many people who sell their cars didn't put enough time into why they're buying it! Spur of the moment or getting caught up in the looks, however nice contributes to impluse buys. According to someone stats I read on here. The majority of 370Z owners where mustang guys! Whatever the reason many don't really have deep rooted love for the Z car in the first place. |

it wasn't really not planning ahead. if i had to have one car out of the 3 (335, 300zx, 370z) the 370z was probably the most practical all around for a fun car. the 370z is more reliable than the 300zx(which i wouldd never DD) and its more fun than the 335 all around. However, the 300zx (The way mine is) does fun way better with t tops and 450whp, and the 335 does pracitcal way better with awd and back seats, plus it has similar power and more torque. so no need to compromise. That being said, i'm glad you enjoy your 350z. Nothing better than buying/owning a car for a long time and it continuing to make you happy. |

I like going to car shows and talking to the owners of different cars from Zs to Mustangs to Porsches to Ferraris etc. and getting a feel for what it is about each of their cars that makes them happy. I don't really care what you drive, as long as you are a car guy and enjoy the car culture... good times.
I'm a car lover, not a hater. ;) |
I got rid of the Z for one reason and one reason only
Location: Brooklyn, NY Between the potholes, winters, and non-stop traffic, it just became a burden to own one. Plus given the option of having a DD and a sports car, I rather have the DD be the new expensive car, so I leased a BMW and sold the Z. Bought myself a 300zx TT for the same money a beater would've cost me if I kept the 370z. No real complaints against the 370 though. I'm sure if I lived in TX as the OP, I would've kept the 370... it would be a suitable DD over there. |
i still have my Z and dont have any plans to sell it any time soon, but if there ever comes a time with family problems and i could find no time to drive the Z on weekend mornings due to looking after the kids, etc. i will sell it and settle on a car with 4 seats so that i can carry my kids along with me on my weekend drives.
there's not many babysitters that are willing to work starting 7am on sat/sun's. :D hahaha. |
Thanks for all the good replies...yes I actually use my Z as a DD here in Texas -- I have covered parking at both work and home, so that works out well.
The oil does get too hot in our 110 degree summer days though, so that's one of my few complaints for Texas. |
When I had mine it worked well as a DD. It was comfortable and the interior was very spacious for two. Plenty of storage space as well as long as you didn't have to haul a lot of stuff. I bought a vacuum and even a medium sized fish tank with the Z.
I guess with the Mustang I do get some more space and useless back seats. The biggest difference in terms of storage is the trunk. I prefer a trunk to a hatch because I like to separate luggage from the driving compartment, but that's just me. |

I still have my Z and will keep it for a few more years. I will sell it as soon as I can afford to upgrade to a GT-R :D http://www.nagtroc.org/forums/public...addleshift.gif |

THIS IS ALSO NOT ACCURATE I had my 2009 touring sport for 2 years. I added a GTM TT stage 2 and many other mods. I came from a 2006 Z51 Corvette and before that a 2003 350Z and before that a 911. I am currently shopping for a 2012 GTR and will eventually buy one. I have NEVER owned a Mustang, an EVO, or an STI.....AND NEVER WILL! Dont know where Tong is coming from BUT most of us go UP from the Z.....not down! |

That said, I don't really care which direction I go as long as I like the car. If I fell in love with a Prius I would buy it. :icon17: |

If they didn't dumb down throttle response from the 350Z, I'm sure more people would keep it even if the oil starts to cook lol. That's all I ask for even if they shifter gets notchy at time, I prefer throttle control that actually opens WIDE when commanded. It has the potential.

The G is a large car...quite heavy too, pushing 4100 lbs. Have you driven one? I can't stand the pork myself. I wish the ZR was on a diet...more in the range of Corvette weight, but I live with it. It amuses me how the industry has gone to 'it handles very well despite its weight' when referring to the over 4K club of sedans and such when in reality, all of these cars are over weight and would be more fun sub 3500 lbs. - b |
I like how this thread has turned into "why do we think people have moved to other cars"
|
I'm thinking of upgrading to a Shelby for multiple reasons
1. The lack of back seats is more of a hassle than I originally thought it would be 2. Oil temps here in El Paso 3. Fear of looking at the car wrong and voiding the warranty 4. Aftermarket support 5. Lag at launch 6. Nail polish for paint 7. To name a few |

Nobody is hating. Just expressing their feelings.
