Why are there so many very low mileage Zs for sale?

I recently purchased a 2011 370Z black cherry coupe with 4200 miles on it. While I was shopping for a Z I looked at many, all with low miles. I can't understand why so many people would buy a car like this and not keep it, at least for a couple of years. Am I missing something? All I can find wrong with it are the blind spots ( which are easy to get used to using mirrors and the center console door opening by me resting my arm on it).

Some people buy the newest thing and then move on.....I may sell mine for an upgrade (thinking about it) and it only has 5,4xx miles on it.

For many folks, the Z is a pleasure car and you will see low mileage variants for sale as people look for change (fun cars flipped every 3 years, people do that) or realize its money they want to do something else with and unload the toy.

Lots of happy slightly used Z owners out there :D

:iagree: Plus in many cases, the Z is a weekend or non-DD vehicle.

Sometimes the wife gets a bun in the oven. That's happened a few times.

sometimes people lose thier job and can no longer afford the payment..

The Dimer 10-02-2011 08:29 AM

They're all buying 5.0 Mustangs, which are the best cars in the world. :stirthepot:

Or like many people and realized this big sports car could barely fix anything as cargo space :happydance:

Though it's sad that even my 240sx has like 3x the cargo space than my Z...or even the old 280zx I use to own that has like 2x the cargo space.

shadoquad 10-02-2011 01:12 PM

lol I didn't buy a sports car for cargo space.

TheGreatOne 10-02-2011 01:28 PM

I think for many its because they only drive it weekends, so it sits and priorities change or they upgrade again lol

My Z is my Daily Driver, I'd only sell if I couldn't manage it anymore as the wife is giving birth really soon. Fighting to keep it though lol.

Cargo space... NVH... shado vwhy do they do it????????

I, myself own 3 cars. All nissans, thank you. Lol. My Z I drive on weekends and once in the week. Well right now I'm breaking mine in so I been driving it a lot more till I hit 1200miles. But once I'm there. That's the schedule.

Davey 10-02-2011 02:17 PM

Any car like this, it happens. Hell, even Miatas - and you know it's not because of the doors.

Montez 10-02-2011 02:28 PM

Some get it and simply don't like it as much they thought they would unlike some of us here and just move on.

11Thumper 10-02-2011 03:24 PM

Performance cars seem to be a novelty for a lot of folks (not all of course). It's great initially and then something else comes along. Or, perhaps a baby is on the way as others have said.

It's not an issue with the car, just the way life is.

people buy mustangs right after buyings Z's. end of story.

OldGuy 10-02-2011 03:46 PM

Like me, many buy a new Z as a fun car and drive it sparingly and store it in winter. I bought my new Miata in 1996 and still have it (looks showroom) with only 35,000 miles on it and now the Z, also, which is 2 years old with 7000 miles and plan to keep it also. My Altima coupe is out daily, so the miles on the Z don't add up. Unlike me, some people tire of their toy or bought on a whim and sell or trade after only a couple of years. That costs money!
These low mileage Z's can be good purchase opportunities, so long as they weren't abused/neglected by their prior owner(s).

I'm actually considering ditching my 2006 Mustang Gt for a 370z. While the new 5.0 addressed the horsepower deficiency, phord still has yet to fix the craptastic handling from the tree in the back. EDIT: Sure, it may have done well on a perfect track against a certain German coupe BUT on a craptastic Louisiana highway, that solid rear axle bites!

Then again, I'm tired of a retro looking car with a solid rear axle. Heck, I won't even consider the Camaro or Challenger because of the retro look alone. Maybe nostalgia sells for some, but I'm tired of that retro look.

The 5.0 handles pretty well. My buddy had his on the Tail of the Dragon with me and a bunch of other Z owners during Zdayz. It fared well.

driven a 10+ yet?

DarkZide 10-02-2011 05:46 PM

On handling the edge goes to the Z, but the stangs are way better now than they used to be. My 01 may as well have doubled as construction equipment cause all it could do was plow.

In the case of a 06 mustang GT....yeah i'd sell it as quick as possible and get a 11/12 GT or a 370z. The only two cars around 30k (new) that id own. The 2005-2010 GTs were a joke, motor wise.

+1

A true Z fan doesn't give up their car without someone prying it from their cold dead hands :icon17:

They trade them in cause they don't like the attention.

The Camaro doesn't really look retro to me... I like it, but I'll never have one cause the interior design looks like it was thought up by Fisher-Price.

The Camaro interior is cheap. I tested one before buying my Z, and the damn interior was falling apart during the test drive.

I test drove a 2011 GT when they first hit the dealer lots. I was impressed with the straight line acceleration, but the handling was still lack luster on these lovely Louisiana roadways. There is a specific turn that I can put any S197 Mustang into the curb with if taken above 15 MPH. I used to routinely take that same turn at 30 to 40 MPH in my 1997 Civic with no ill effects.

With all that written, I'm also looking into a used Lexus IS F, Audi RS4, or BMW 335i. I intend to test drive a whole slew of vehicles before I make my final decision.

That's the way to do it. Test anything you'd even remotely consider and pick the one that's right for you.

Guess that depends on what you mean by handling :icon17:

having owned an EK and an '11 mustang, I call bs. Unless you are running a set of tires that stick a couple inches out past the fender on the EK, there's at least a tenth of a G more grip in even a non-brembo mustang.

I'm gonna step out of this thread before I get frustrated with closed-minded people...

Cheap and ugly! I can't stand looking at that center console. The year they fix that up and use some nicer material, it will be on my list of potential purchases.

That thing that mustangs have basically always sucked at. The 11s have gotten a lot better, though.

Basically every track comparison i've seen between the two cars only shows the mustang going faster on the sections of track are straightaways.

Yep, go look at their recent test where they obviously threw the Z under the bus on their score, and then look at all the handling tests....the Z beat the Mustang on all of them except the one part of the track that is straight.

And this is why I meant by all the 5.0 tards needing to be banned. Nobody comes to the370z.com to read about "me too" people driving mustangs.

funny...thought they were tied on the non-straight sections...

You can keep wishing for guys like Steve and I to get banned, but the fact is, we're usually the first to help in any Z related technical thread...

Doesn't matter if your helping once or twice and spreading your condescending ******** around 10 or 12 times. Seriously...nobody gives a crap that you think the mustang is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Go hang out on corral and GTFO.

EDIT: and you can't even read, adding up the turning sections puts the Z .1 faster.

the mustang weighs more and has a solid rear axle, so what exactly does this say about the Z...

I have yet to see any 5.0 owner on this board bash the Z outright or claim the GT is the greatest. I have however seen many butthurt Z owners. you need to chill out dude.

DarkZide 10-02-2011 06:46 PM

Is there an alternate 370z forum? Because every single on here turns into some BS about 5.0 mustangs and im tired of looking at it.

take a look at the time minus straights...they are the same.

I'm not here to bash the Z. You'll find I pretty much haven't brought up a comparison outside of my review...in the "Other Cars" section.

I've got no need to justify my car choice, and I've got no beef with the Z. It's still one of my favorites amongst the many cars I've owned, it just wasn't quite what I wanted at the time.

I just get annoyed when I see people posting subjective opinions as objective facts, or unsubstantiated claims. If you like the Z, more power to you. Most of my friends are still in 370z's because they like them... I have no beef with that. I've never been a dude who has anything to prove, and I don't care if my car is the fastest or the slowest...or whether other people like it or hate it. I recommend taking the same approach-- you will find life much less stressful:driving::driving::driving:
