The Z weighs less and makes similar power out of a non forced induced engine. Eventually you will reach a point with the BMW turbos where they are maxed out and then the heavy modding starts putting you near or above the price of a twin turbo kit. Also remember the Z aftermarket has developed slowly, hell we just got our Stage II GTM supercharger release this month, you should expect high prices. In the long run I believe that the 1M will retain an collectability allure but when it comes down to performance, give me a modded Z over a modded 1M any day. I'm actually thrilled he bought it, I needed a mod war partner. I'll say this, if I get gears and I'm building up to it because the top speed sacrifices are marginal how often will you hit 160+, the 1M and e92 M won't stand a chance.

BTW, youtube is filled with vids of 335i's that are tuned and getting beat by Z's. They have no limited slip, they are heavy and they are good for straight lines only!

I could be wrong but isn't the 1M good for like 12.8-12.9 in the 1/4 while the Z is only good for 13.1-13.3? I'm not saying the extra cost justifies the slight gains in speed but I'm not sure I would say the Z is just as quick or quicker.

Sounds like a dangerous claim to make while on this forum...

It is, I've personally found my Z and I ahead and I don't pay anywhere close to what he pays a month. Tsk tsk, sure I wouldn't put it in the raw power category of the 5.0 but it looks better than a generic mustang and is much faster if done right than people think and I'm speaking from experience.

As sick as the TT RS is (and the BOSS), I think I'm saving up and moving to a used Audi R8 4.2; my next car is definitely going to be mid-engined.

Loved the Cayman, but with the move up, I want to add two cylinders. :happydance:

Of course, this may entail two-three years' worth of saving. Settling into the new house is still sucking up $$$...

Honestly, I think the price of most mods for the 370z isn't that cheap either. It's true for A LOT of other Nissan cars that get modded, but 370Z and GTR are in a pretty decent mod-price league.

Part of the reason why the aftermarket for BMWs is so expensive is due to them being higher priced luxury cars, a lot of owners are older and can afford the higher priced parts. Then you have a bunch of people that just want to impress others and tell them they bought some crazy expensive mod that they can't really afford.

You're not looking at the right numbers if you compare mods for the 370z to mods for FI BMWs, theyre actually very close in their price range.

Don't forget we have expensive parts too... akrapovic exhaust anyone? Doesn't mean you have to buy that particular one.

When it comes to cheap mods, domestics run sh1t. With 1k, you can add 60 to 80hp on a camaro or stang, while for the same 1k, if we make 24hp? We are happy. But the Z is a totally different animal. So parts will run more. The trick with japanese cars is to be patient and be ready. Parts are moderately expensive but we see some pretty good sales and offers. If we try our hardest to stay on top of the game and remain financially prepared. We can mod at pretty descent prices if we buy as soon as sales are announced.

Anyways I love how this thread has turned into a general sports car forum

After I heard the turbos going crazy at 5mph on a 2012 nissan gtr black edition. I know I want a gt-r. It will have to be used, but it WILL HAPPEN at some point. Theres nothing in this world that's better than the sound of an aggressive turbo system.

NYBladeZ 09-27-2011 11:57 AM

I can't drive a paddle shift, it goes against my existence as an automotive purist. Short of the 458, MPC, CLK Black Series and Lamborghini I would not do it. Basically if its not a supercar/hypercar selling out for SMG does not do it for me. I would get very bored very quickly. The GTR is a very fast car but bought by very unskilled drivers or people who have $ and want to be the "fastest." Put two guys one being a pro and one being an amateur and they'll run very close times.

Our friend with the nice camera is taking his time and I know I promised pics. Here are a few taken with my blackberry.

Now since you've previewed the pictures, I have a sincere question. I've replaced every removable part, but I need to figure out a color for the vinyl on the remaining pieces. What would you guys recommend, other than matte black, that's been done already.

m4a1mustang 09-27-2011 12:41 PM

Gloss black... something to blend in with the CF.

Red__Zed 09-27-2011 12:42 PM

Carbon fiber vinyl? :rofl2:

NYBladeZ 09-27-2011 12:51 PM

Can't the CF vinyl is matte. Don't really want black, right now the red takes away from the CF and everyone has done black.

m4a1mustang 09-27-2011 01:09 PM

Yeah but anything else is just gonna look crappy, like patchwork. So you are limited in what you can do...
