I signal every time.

I do not care if a cop or trooper stop me I am just helping other commuters. LOL

Agreed.

Good. I hope he gets his settlement.

Speaking of FL, I can tell you Tampa is waaaay overpoliced.

We have literally three different kinds of police (city, sheriff, state trooper) all milling about within a very small area, and mainly they seem to just be sitting on the side of the road waiting for speeders.

I've had situations where I've had to call a cop and had slow or no response, but meanwhile, four of them are sitting in a parking lot together just up the road with the lights off just watching drivers.

And now they're ticketing people for warning others of that -- wow.

/\ every ticket I've gotten in this state (with two exceptions) has been in and around the Tampa area when I was travelling there from CFL area. :shakes head:

Do you guys flash your lights to other drivers to warn of speed traps?

do you think other people should?

I do it if the person is obviously speeding, and doing so responsibly (such as, they are my rabbit and they are doing 20 over and noone else is on the highway and no weaving around is going on).

I will ALWAYS flash my lights for my rabbit. They are doing me a big service. I put my V1/HUD to work to cover them and maintain that service! I usually will pick up a speed trap .75-1.5 miles away if terrain is flat/even or even slightly rolling. If it is mountainous or hilly, usually .25-.5 miles away.

This is why I miss having fog lights. cause I could flash them at on coming cars and the cops behind me could not tell what I was doing.

I'm a cop and this thread has made me laugh. First off I would love to have time to set up and do nothing but run radar all day. Thats not happening because what was once a 75 man department is down to 50 and we have zero time to do anything other than answer calls. I have run radar numerous times with my overhead emergency lights on and idiots still hammer by me. But to the person complaining about cops speeding, running red lights etc......be a hero and grab the car number. Our cars have GPS, and are constantly recording 24/7 and our Chief would love nothing more than to suspend us.

Should you flash? well to take this issue one step further, from a utilitarian perspective if its for the greater good for the greatest amount of people aka benefit them then I say it is valid. I personally would help a fellow person out my giving them a heads up about a cop because by doing so I am helping someone avoid a heavy fine. Then again if someone comes flying by at 75 on a two lane road they may not even be paying attention to me trying to help them out. Also when you are driving a car, it is YOUR responsibility to make sure you follow the law, so inspite of someone trying to help, people may choose to still speed and eventually get caught. So as a person, you can do your part to help a fellow person out even if its against the law, whether it is right or wrong depends on whether you are willing to look at it from a "greater good" perspective or not. :twocents:

That pesky part of protect and serve. I hope that's not the collective thought process of most cops. :ugh2:

Much respect here. Your well-controlled answer shows you're the good kinda cop:tup:

The only good kind of cop is the kind that doesn't issue tickets. I mean on top of a broke nation, unconstitutional taxes, and wonderful things like the current administration along with it's "Patriot" Act, I gotta worry about getting pinched for going 10 over or no front plate?

C'mon.

Some tickets are reasonable IMO.

I've been on the receiving end of some ridiculous tickets (63 in a 60, on a downhil), but most officers are pretty reasonable people, just doing their job.

No front plate makes cops harder to identify the vehicle driven. I like the idea of cop cars with license plate readers to automatically mark which vehicles were stolen.

Going over 10, I've been on the receiving end from a car. Different being hit by a car going 25 and going 35 is pretty huge.

Dude, I have little patience dealing with people in stupid domestic "he cheating on me, so I grab my brother to beat him up" sort of drama. Gives me brain cramps. I applaud if you have to deal with that round the clock.

TonyBPD 09-02-2011 09:11 PM

My limit is 15 over unless its a school zone or nasty conditions. I rock a front plate so everyone else should as well.

KillerBee370 09-02-2011 10:33 PM

Well respect for the job that you do. I wouldn't want to deal with half that stuff either. I just think some tickets are nonsense (and others completely warranted, ie the school zone).

But let's get the vehicle code sorted out when it comes to things like front plate. It's not required in certain states yet in others it is? I don't get it.

My vehicle's not stolen. I've never even been arrested. Why do I need to be identified? I'd say in my neck of the woods (especially Manhattan Beach) where cops definitely use those things, stolen cars are rare rare rare. All sorts of other revenue however... well I guess it's just that much easier to figure out who's tags are out. Cheap.

You've been nailed by cars doing both speeds? Dude you got all sorts of bad luck!

TonyBPD 09-02-2011 11:09 PM

I think the front plate required is ridiculous. My town has a ton of Pennsylvania and Delaware cars go through it and there is no front plate required in those states. Then you have inspection stickers and ahhhhhhhh! So many different things. Now in NJ vehicle inspections are for emissions only. The equipment is on you to check and maintain. NJ is a mess.

Not all state has front license plates, which I really don't see the purpose.

I'd love to agree with this, but... My local police department has not only ordered new vehicles in midnight blue with interior mounted light bars, they've gone through the trouble and expense of repainting the existing white vehicles and retrofitting them with interior light bars.
These "stealth" police cars are impossible to see, which leads me to believe that having a visual "presence" to keep the township and its roadways safe has taken a back seat to using ambush tactics to catch and ticket drivers.
