I stand corrected.

Seriously, if you plan to buy an iPhone just wait a month or two and be sure.

Hmmm I remember when the Color was coming out rumors showed up a few months before the announcement. Alot of times there are alot of speculations about new Apple products most of the time they are spot on with hardware releases. Apple didnt confirm 3G but everyone knew it was coming.

But on a side note I love Apple products too (except Mac's) the Ipod are great very clean they pay alot of attention of detail.

On the other hand, you can spend some time hand typing in all your contacts into your Navi unit atleast and when that person calls, it will show their name so in the end, you're not missing out on any functionality except for the easy import feature.

I hope that when 3.0 iPhone software comes out they will support contact transfer since they are finally implementing A2DP stereo BT.

Jay

Dont know what you guys are talking about. But my buddy just leased an ML Benz, and his 3G iPhone phonebook transferred just fine to the car's navi.

and yes, battery life does suck with the iphone. with 3G and BT enabled, i can literally see the battery bar drain to nothingness right before my eyes.

As for the battery life. If you simply reduce screen brightness from default 50% to closer to 25-30% (you won't see a difference, unless you're holding two phones next to each other), your bat life will increase dramatically.

I am a very heavy iphone user. Everything, 3G, Wifi, BT, is always on. Email is checking every 15min. I use it as a phone, and as an iPod in my car and pretty much everywhere else. I sit online on it, pretty much every free moment of my life. :( i know.

By the end of the day, my battery is usually only 25% depleted, at worse it's in the 40-50% range. I do not have a car charger, and I only charge at night, every night.

As for the new iPhone. OS 3.0 has been announced and is coming out in June (no one knows when in June, but if I had to guess, it will be one of the last days of June). It will be free to all current iPhone users. Adds many features, including background notification/processes, copy/paste, mms, stereo bt, note sync'ing, and many many others.

On the same day, Apple will likely release the new iPhone. Although practically no one knows this to be the case, everyone who follows Apple DOES KNOW this to be the case, there just isnt (and there never is) any confirmation from Apple or Att.

By all rumors and accounts, and these seem to be getting pretty accurate as of late. You're looking at a somewhat increased speed on the CPU, almost surely a 32GB model offered, improved camera (likely 3megapixels which will likely still suck as a camera, as every phone camera does) along with video-recording abilities. Compass type feature as in G1.

If you do get it, be glad that the bluetooth phone works with it, because it's the only way you'll be able to speak to or hear anyone, period.

If I haven't made my feelings clear, my cousin wants to buy my iPhone when I replace it, but I'd rather destroy it Office Space style.

Wow that's amazing... I've probably owned 15 cell phones in my life - including black berry and windows mobile phones - and this is easily the best cellphone I've ever owned.

^ agreed! I was with Verizon for over 6 years and switched to att&t just for the iphone...and I dont regret it for a second! The iphone is amazing! I have not experienced any of the issues Anatoray is having. I know about 10 people with iphones and besides the standard gripes like no MMS and battery life (soon to be fixed in OS 3.0) they all RAVE about it with almost cult-like enthusiasm haha. The service is not Verizon-grade but the features/interface of the iphone more than make up for it IMO.

I haven't spoken with any "experts" but I know that a new iPhone is coming out with new software. ;)

I "jailbroke" my iPhone and have video camera capability already -- pretty good video, as a matter of fact. I also have FTP-like capability for moving large files wirelessly between my MacBook Pro and my iPhone. On a jailbroken phone, there is also an easy toggle feature to access things like the Bluetooth setting and the WiFi setting, to optimize performance in the car and preserve battery life.

iPhone is the finest smart phone by an incredible margin -- truly one of the best devices to come along ever. I'd put it one notch below the regular phone in terms of historical significance.

That's why I'm eager to learn how well it works with the Z. How about the Touring stereo (BOSE)? Without nav, can I run an AUX IN + USB power for an iPhone to the back of the unit and discreetly use the iPod function of my phone while I store it in the center console compartment?

What all have you guys found?

This thread needs some updating! :-p

I'm looking to buy a new 2010 370z and was able to test drive one this weekend with the nav system. I was VERY pleased with how easy it worked with my iPhone 3G! I was a bit shocked the nav system didn't see or couldn't play my videos on my iPhone though.

Any idea about how to get videos to play off an iPhone (while parked of course)?

The problem with the iPhone I have is that it is made with poor parts. The opinion that it has a very weak speaker for listening to calls as well as speaker phone is widespread. The 2G did not address this either.

Amongst phones of its calibur, the iphone has one of the worst cameras, offering no flash, no zoom, low mpixels, and poor grainy quality overall.

As an iPod, the iphone probably fails here the most. Not being able to drag and drop music to it on a computer can make loading it up a long chore, and thenit turns out to be incompatible with the majority of the dock players out there.

The wireless has magical issue connecting to every network I come across, even my own home network.

The reception likes to magically drop from 5 bars to nothing, when standing still in the same spot. Even with 2+ bars, my phone fails to make calls.

I have shown all of these issues to AT&T as well as the Apple store, and they both decided that it worked well enough within their guidelines to not warrant attention, leading me to believe the iPhone really does suck this much.

Having said all that, I don't know any iPhone owners personally, or in passing, that actually like it. Cool features? Yes. Ability to use them? Less than stellar. I am REALLY hoping the June iphone announcement addresses some of these issues.

P.S. The battery is good at least.

Go G! And use amazon mp3. Amazon mp3 may not be the craze in cell phone downloading but it does the job and the G1 is way more fluid when it comes to those kinds of apps that you would use in your car. I promise, you won't be disappointed!

This is an old thread but I have a 3GS and it works perfectly with the Z. The ambient noise in the Z makes some calls difficult, but if you aren't on the phone constantly it shouldn't be a problem.

If you don't have Nav, I recently got the TomTom iPhone app and carkit and it is really cool. I attach it to my windshield in the lower left corner of the windshield. The kit has bluetooth for calls, and audio out port for the aux-in jack, charges phone, is a great holder, and, of course does nav.

Do you think you can take a cabin shot of your setup? I'm interested to see what it looks in a Z.

I'm still stuck on trying to get videos to play off of my iPhone 3Gs... anyone?
