If you damaged your car Post here!!!
3 Attachment(s)
Hi everyone I have recently hit a parked car with my Z :shakes head: i am very disappointed with my self about what happened i could have avoided it if i had more experience at how to control the car.
I would like to encourage everyone who had an accident rather if it was their fault or a negligence of other to tell us your story of what happened that day, how you could have avoided it if it was possible and share some pics if any. For these drivers that have a non damaged Z and give them an advise of how to keep it rolling in one peace. Heres my story. I got off work after doing overtime 4 hrs all i wanted to do was to get in to my Z and just drive home to get some R&R, little did i know my day was just about to get worse. I pull out of the gates where i work and made a left turn in 1st gear where i was going like 3-5mph, so i hit the gas a lil to get some speed in order to go in to second gear and the car just lost it, my RPMs skyrocket and the car started doing of to one side i tried to control it and before i can realize WTF? i was facing the parked cars and then Boom Badahbah Bam. I also had my VDC off i think if i had it ON this would not have happened. Plus i dont race or drift so maybe if i had more experience in drifting i would have prevented that crash in any case here are the pics. DONT MAKE MY MISTAKES. |
uhhh...
sorry to hear what happened.. but.. why would you turn VDC off especially if you have no experience with "racing" or "drifting".. Although its strange. ive never found that the z likes to break loose from just a lil gas in a turn like that. It just scampers on. truthfully theres never a reason to turn it off when your just going around town. even then if someones doing spiriting mountain driving etc most should leave it on.. |
I dont mean to sound like an *** but that accident was not caused by the VDC being off...like you said, its caused by the little expeirence you have. Did you give it a "little" gas to get into second or did you dump the clutch and floor it? I disconnected the harness for the VDC and never once lost control of the car (except on the track in a turn doing 70kmh but i quickly recoverd)
|
Sorry to hear and especially the others involved.
|
I can't really make sense of what happened from your post. I've never had trouble in first gear with VDC off. Did you leave your foot on the clutch pedal without realizing it, spin the clutch then drop it, causing traction loss? Regardless, no offense man but if you're that inexperienced then your first mistake was even driving a 370...
|
I once scraped on a speed bump.
|
I scraped my front drivers wheel on a curb. Scheduled for repair on Wednesday.
Sorry that happened to your ride. I too am trying to puzzle out how this happened to you. :( |
It doesn't sound like you hit the throttle just a little to me. When making a turn in our car from first gear and you gun it with VDC off it will lose traction very easily.
I always ride with VDC off and when I plan to have fun from time to time from a standing stop or first gear pull while turning I always have to feather the trottle to regain traction from keeping it going around on me. But I also have a great LSD that more than makes me feel comfortable at all times. It's a great piece to have. But experience sounds like the issue. Plus it sounds as if you where on cold tires also. But I would never do this where other cars are directly around me. |
^^^ +1 on cold Tires ^^^
Could have been oil or something in the road. I had a similar drift experience once a few minutes after coming out of a car wash with vdc off. In my case I was able to control the drift but I got majorly sideways with cars on either side of me and was not anticipating it. Could have easily been a bad day. I hope you get your Z fixed up soon. |
I scratched my rim going thru a bank drive thru...pissed me off for a few hours.
|
Knock on wood no accident/incident with my 350 or 370.
Things to keep in mind: Stay off the phone, be aware of your surrounding, know your limits, know the limits of the car, watch your speed and know your blind spots. Last but not least without offending anyone, DON'T drive like an A-Hole! |
Uh oh... another "don't VDC off or you could dead" story.
In all seriousness though OP, glad you are alright and only the car was damaged. At that low speed it could have been some loose dirt/gravel/oil on the road + cold tires like others have said. Always be mindful of road surfaces. You should never take driving for granted (yea we are all guilty and do it on a daily basis). |
car accident 7/31/2011
Hello everyone this is my first time posting things on the site but i'm an avid reader and stalker of this site... so to my story on 7/31/2011 i was coming from a freinds house i got off the I-805 on university exit, it was a green light i yielded to the opossing cars, except i could not see the car behind the big black tahoe so after the car passed i took the left but i got hit from a civic left front damage which resulted in 14k in damage the car is still in the shop and will be back in my driveway on the 29th, so this accident was my fault because i shoudl have yielded longer but there was no way i would have seen the civic the person i hit said there was nothing I could do so from now on to prevent this from happening is I am very cautious when making turns on green or when i come to a hidden or hards to see intersection...
for pics there in my album i dont know how to put pics in reply yet |

I totaled my car, except I was in the civics position -- approaching a green light, where someone had a left on green yield, and they didn't see me coming around the bend. I slammed on my brakes but still hit them. My vehicle was totaled, and the insurance company ended up declaring them at fault, which they obviously were. Moral of the story, don't turn blindly at a yield on green light if you can't see everything coming your way. |
I actually backed up into my wife's Xterra in the driveway. Backing out at an angle and judged the distance wrong. It make a dent really small which wasn't even that noticeable.
|
+1 Cold tires make a difference. I'm sure your not the first to experience this problem so don't feel bad.
|
I have 2 incidents. First, I scraped the bottom of my front bumper when I went off the road a bit pushing it too hard on a turn. I think the tires got a little wet from driving through some puddles and the back end started to slide out. Managed to straighten it out but ran out of road and had 2 wheels go off the road and into some mud.
2nd time was when I rear ended some lady when she slammed on the brakes in her pickup truck for no apparent reason. :shakes head: Wonder how long it will take red__zed to reply to this post. Your being timed now Dan! :eekdance: |

You shouldn't have turned off VDC especially when you're tired from work. As for the 1-3 mph in 1st gear and a little gas to get to 2nd story, that sounds like BS to me. I think that you just don't want to admit you've done something stupid and it was your fault so you change up on the story.
Just my opinion. |

A couple of these stories sound like the obvious reminder: never go when you can't see - unfortunately not all for the 370Z drivers though.
If someone blocks my vision, I just wait. I'm never in that much of a hurry. However, I have (lightly) curbed my left rear twice trying to turn in a limited space - something about the car makes it hard for me to make a tight corner well. |
I sharted in the passenger side seat one night when my gf was driving me home drunk. I dont know who was pissed more, my gf because thats her regular seat or stanley steamer carpet cleaning for having such a $hitty change order!!
|
You should always keep your VDC on!
However, I will continue to turn mine off as I've done since 2009 without any incident. |

I drive with VDC off 50% the time... I like driving a little spirited now and then and drifting / drag racing occasionally. I honestly don't see how you can lose control like that unless you just can't drive at all... gotta feather the throttle son lol :icon18:
Go buy a beater 240sx to practice the basics before you end up ruining your nice car  |
I wired my trailer lights incorrectly and put the car in limp mode
|
Nothing like what you did, but I scratched the paint near my door..deep!
I thought originally someone scratched my car and was pissed...then realized, where it was, would be really hard to hit it with a door....then i realized, it had to be me. Culprit: My Money Clip Wallet. My condo parking is near a wall and often I squeeze in as I can't open the door all the way. I must have done it while squeezing in...so pissed at myself. Its a $300 job to repaint the rear quater panel, but maybe a good buff might help...haven't tried yet |
