Don't you get annoyed when someone refers to your Z...

as a 350Z instead of a 370Z? I know there isn't a huge difference in looks but we sure know the difference and it matters to us so whenever someone says 350 I have to correct them but try to hold back like it's not a big deal although it is to me. Especially after I tell them it is brand new, and they don't realize that 370 replaced 350 in 09 and is more powerful, lighter and faster and just all around better. It's just kind of annoying and I thought I would share, it also doesn't seem to just be people that doen't really know cars, mechanics even, of course not nissan dealers, but unless you really are into fast sports cars, they may not know the difference. I am sure all of us have had this happen...

RandyD 08-15-2011 07:22 AM

my mom keeps calling it a ZS... i'm done correcting her :)

Corona370z 08-15-2011 07:26 AM

I try not to think about it too much. Plus for me, when I see a Corvette, a Mustang, BMW, AUDI, etc. I usually don't know if it's a new model or not...then again they haven't changed their look that much.

b1adesofcha0s 08-15-2011 07:37 AM

Happened to me at the drag strip the last time I went. The announcer kept calling my car a 350Z

yaheard 08-15-2011 07:51 AM

In my experience its such a "unknown" car that people still think the 350z is still being produced as the new model. The people who know cars know the difference. The 350 simply looks like a poopoo compared to the 370z. Really, the only person that knows the real difference is me!

Red__Zed 08-15-2011 07:54 AM

Not really.

Lemers 08-15-2011 08:14 AM

Their ignorance is not my concern.

DrEvil 08-15-2011 08:14 AM

It's hard to be rigid about the "propper" ID of our model. With less than 30k units out there and no real advertising by Nissan, it's a wonder many people recognise it as a Z.
What ever they call it, I enjoy the attention the car generates. If they call it a 350, I'll politely correct them and they'll usually say..."wow I didn't know they made a 370!'

my2004Z 08-15-2011 08:18 AM

I always crack up when guys ask "is that FWD?" I usually smile and say that all Z cars are RWD in hopes that they don't embarrass themselves in the future.

poorazn 08-15-2011 08:51 AM

My dad calls my car a Z-3-5-0. Its ok, he drives a P-ri-us.

Wouldn't it be a ri-us P ?

Brutal 370Z 08-15-2011 09:01 AM

I have the same experience with my G. Everyone thinks its a G35. Kind of annoys me too. I'm sure it will be the same with the Z. Except I would probably be more annoyed about people mistaking the 370 for a 350 because there is a world of difference between the two.

MarkeZ 08-15-2011 09:08 AM

I overheard two guys last week arguing about my car. The conversation went something like this:

guy#1: Dude check out that GTR!

guy#2: It's not a "GR" I think it's the new 350

guy#1: They made a new 350?

guy#2: Yeah but I think they call it a 370 or 380 or something. Look at the hatch there
should be an emblem or something.

Guy#1 goes outside (I was at wendy's waiting for my order) and goes behind my car to check it out then comes back.

guy#1: No emblem must be "debadged"

At this point I get my order then leave. As I was getting in my car these two guys approach me and ask if it was a "GR". Told them it's a 370 and as we were talking a 350 parked right next to me so I pointed out the differences. That was convenient. :)

mantella87 08-15-2011 09:14 AM

Someone asked me, "Hey is that the 350 or the 375?"...

shadoquad 08-15-2011 09:17 AM

Doesn't annoy me at all. I usually correct them politely.

Plus, usually it's people telling me, "Man, that's an awesome car! Is that a 350?" ;)

Masa 08-15-2011 09:20 AM

I just tell them its Nissan's new hybrid car... it gets awesome gas mileage ;)

kenchan 08-15-2011 09:22 AM

op - yah, one of the guys at work who has no clue about cars says that. i correct him each time as he's not doing it on purpose. he just has short memory.

like if some crafty person named a yarn brand or series i wouldn't remember. yawn... :icon17:

Same here. Unless of course you're someone who should know about cars and are announcing it incorrectly to a large crowd of people. Then I get a little annoyed.

Lemers 08-15-2011 09:24 AM

Just call it a Z and leave it at that.

Matthew 08-15-2011 09:27 AM

I had an appointment with a garage to set up my exhaust. The guy was laughing behind the counter, I asked what be was laughing and be said "they wrote your car down as a 370z in stead of a 350" I explained the difference and of course he didn't k ow a new model had come out

dont go to that garage... :ugh2:

shadoquad 08-15-2011 09:53 AM

One of my favorites was when I called Geico to insure her. I told the guy on the phone that it was a 370z. He said, "Do you mean 350z, or did they come out with a new model?" The car had been out for a year already, but I explained it to him, and he was so excited about the changes to the Z that we talked for a good 10 minutes about the differences before we finally discussed actually insuring the car.

Vaughanabe13 08-15-2011 10:05 AM

I'm more annoyed when people see the car and call it "cute" in a very condescending way. Why is it cute, just because it's a 2 seater and smaller than a stang? I would say it's more "badass" than cute, but maybe that's just me...

the Z reminds me of my bunny i had long time ago. low riding, wide (stable), round shape. i think that's where the cute comes from.

ImportConvert 08-15-2011 10:50 AM

People are stupid. You will never fix that. Getting upset is just spinning your wheels. Looks all furious and crap, but really just a waste of time.

FWIW I don't really care and it barely even bothers me, but it does kind of irk me a little. I find it good looking but not "cute" in a feminine way like people suggest.

Vegitto-kun 08-15-2011 01:30 PM

most people go "oh its a nissan" people don't know any Zs here.

except for the ricers then they go "WOW NICE BODYKIT ON YOUR 350 MAN"

then I say its a 200SX and their minds blow up.

somebody thought it was a aston martin once

Hate it big time.. mechanic friend came over to see my car and he gives it a "I worked on 2 of these this week, one was a 2005 and the other a 2007".
I couldn't let that go and had to correct him.

eddieconfetti 08-15-2011 02:02 PM

i had a cop that wrote my car down as 2009 nissan 350z on the ticket he gave me.

The Nissan service department rep has refered to my car as a 350Z on more than one occassion... I would go elsewhere, but I already payed for the maintenance package. Let just say I watch them like a hawk everytime they service my car.

Some people are just ignorant when it comes to cars. My uncle & co-worker actually asked me what my custom license plate mean. :wtf:

UNKNOWN_370 08-15-2011 03:23 PM

I personally got tired of explaining that the 350z isn't the lower grade model. Its the last generation. My car is just the 09 newest generation. And still, some people don't understand. This fixation that my 370 is somehow an upgrade from the 350 drives me up a wall... though a 370 can be viewed to a mild degree as an upgrade. There's no such thing as a 2011 350z so I don't see it that way.

shadoquad 08-15-2011 03:28 PM

The 370 is better in almost every way, but you're right, it's not a huge difference, and it's not like the cars are sold side by side. The 370 is the next evolution of the 350.

As far as maintenence goes, nothing has changed. So don't worry too much. Basically all the 3.5 and 3.7ltr cars near identical care maintenence. For the ddealers. The Z is a Z. They don't really care in the form of words but I see ur frustration. If our cars were different then we would have problems. I would just find a gtr certified dealership to ease your lack of confidence with the current one. Gtr dealers usualyy give the skyline mechancics Z to fill up there day

It is a GT-R certified dealer. I think the tech's are fine. Its the service rep that worries me. They always seem to be mindless drones sometimes, just reading off a script. They've even offered me tire rotation at reasonable fee a few times :icon14:
