When you take it to your mechanic are you going to stick with M1 0w-30? Have you tried 0w-40? It has shown good results in the Z33 and other brands like Bimmers and Mercs.

Take a 993 in for an oil change. Two filters and 10 quarts of Mobil 1. One of those filters was put where God never intended man to touch. Gives a new meaning to spread em.

I went to the dealer today to pick up my title and the service manager (friend of my father-in-law) has been taking incredible care of me. As I walked in he said "what are you doing here?" I told him about the title and he asked what I was at for mileage. I told him 1200 and he said, "stick around for 45min and I'll have the first service comp'd for you."
They changed the oil and put in Valvoline generic 5w30. I brought up the Nissan ester oil and no one knew what I was talking about. Then I showed them the threads on this site using my iPhone and they low and behold dug out a box of unopened Nissan Ester Oil. They drained the fresh Valvoline into the trash and swapped it for the sweeter Nissan nectar. So, first oil change at 1200 for free with the Nissan Ester Oil. Pretty sweet deal. I'm surprised no one at the dealership knew about the oil though. They parts guy even pulled the manual to show me there was no specific need for the ester oil...but still put it in :) |

On the other hand, if you are the kinda of guy who loves working on his car every chance he gets (which isn't a bad thing), then save a few bucks and get a quality dino oil and change it every 3,000 miles. In either case your car will be fine. Enjoy it. |
hmm so what is the recommended milage? my scion that i used to drive, i changed it every 5000 miles. is that fine with 0w-30?
|
5,000 miles would be fine. It's still on the conservative side. If you truly want to know how long to extend, then get an oil analysis done. They will help you dial in the perfect change interval based on your driving habits and your particular car. If you don't feel like spending the time and money on an analysis, a conservative 5,000 mile interval will be more than adequate.
