370z rough start on occasion

Yet another issue I am posting on here for some opinions (i think it says great things about our community and the ppl on it though)

So my z will start up fine after it sits overnight, however, lets say I drive it to the gym and it sets for a few hours. When I come out to start it, it will start to turn over and tick a couple of times and takes like 5 seconds or so to start. It doesn't do this EVERY time, probably 3 out of 5 starts. It sounds horrible and people look like "Nice car but what the hell is up with it starting?" It is quite embarrassing and I am wondering if it is causing any damage. I took it to the dealer but it wouldn't replicate. I attached a sound clip as I was lucky enough to catch it today. What do you guys think?

you might need windows 7 to play it or a codec. I am going to try to record it with video to put it on youtube.

Are you holding the button down constantly or are you just holding it down long enough that it gets to the on position?

Not holding it down. Push break, Push Start and let go.

Nice. Thanks for that Zen..I looked around with search but kept getting a timeout error in my browser.

Likely excuse I know, but it is true

Good luck - I've been having this problem for over a year now. Nissan has replaced MULTIPLE parts (ECU, IPMD, Battery, Key Coding System, Fuel Pump etc etc), so far without a solution. I've been in contact with Nissan Consumer Affairs for several months. They installed a computer monitoring device - still looking at the data (that was 3 months ago). Fact is, you're screwed and Nissan is going to wash their hands of the problem. I am living, breathing proof of this fact. If I were you I would start your Lemon Law paperwork NOW and get rid of the thing. Just my opinion - but I'm a little angry right now :)

To OP i would just suggest taking it to a qualified service technician anyway and see what they can come up with as no matter what you do, unless you get the ball rolling somewhere, nothing is going to happen and i honestly hope that you get the problem solved without having to go through to much trouble.

Wow, Bob! You're a soldier. Even with all the problems you've been dealing with, you still have your Z! Definitely lemon law and try to get another one. I don't have that sort of issue, but once in awhile it is hard to start. It happened twice, and I'm around 23-24k miles now.

Soldier :) Ha! - I'v been drafted then :) If I could get out of this lease right now I would. I have about 10 months left. I'm beyond the Virginia Lemon Law statues (18 months after taking delivery). So I'm at the mercy of Nissan right now. NOT a good place to be.

I assume you have an automatic. Is stepping on the brakes required in the autos? If not, I'd suggest not using the brakes. If it is required, then just ignore me 'cuz I'm an idjut. :icon14:
