I got mine with nav. As someone else said it was more for the clean look and easy integration with Blue tooth, ipod, etc. My only complaint would be the bose audio system (with any touring model). I wish it was more easily upgraded.

I am a big fan of the few places in the Z that I can hide things. Like my beloved cubbyhole :ugh2: . My only regret is not having a USB port.

I got the Nav, its a outstanding interface and I am quite happy with it. I didnt consider the price of it when I got it, I wanted it so I got it.

I guess I'm just bitter since I got rear ended 6 years ago by one of these distracted drivers which screwed up my neck/back for the rest of my life. Okay, I'm finished being off topic again. :p |

I got the nav package (2010) and I love it. You really can't compare the sat nav with portable units. The built-in nav does not only use GPS. It also has a yaw sensor (to sense change of direction) and a connection to the speedo/odometer. That way you still get position information even if the GPS connection is lost. On occasion that causes the car to appear to be in the middle of a cow pasture, but usually (like in a tunnel) it is great.
The blue tooth is fine and I like the way the integration allows picking contacts from my phone's contact list, not just the list in the nav package. I had an aftermarket backup camera installed and it is integrated seamlessly into the nav package. It's expensive. Is it worth it? That depends on you. I bought the touring Z with sport package and GPS. It had a sticker price of about $42k. I paid less, but not a lot less. It's worth it to me and I am very happy with the quality of the display and all of the added features. |
First, I actually have the nav, so I'm no hater.
It looks fantastic with the car. In fact, the whole interior looks different with it. It was the looks that really sold me. That being said, it's not worth the money. Many roads even several years old are not on there. Keep updating the maps every year or two? Sure, if you wanna spend even more fuckin money. The routes they give suck. Google maps and my phone give faster routes. For example, from my work to home, it want me to drive a straight line there through 25 miles of stop signs, red lights, train tracks, etc instead of going 4 miles out of my way and hopping on the freeway which shaves like, 15 minutes off the trip. It's clumsy to use. Again, I can probably do it on my phone twice as fast. It won't let you use many functions while the car is moving, such as entering in an address or scrolling through lists. As a safety guy, I get the idea behind it, but I often have a copilot who could use it just fine. Again, it takes so long to get an address in there, you can't even really use it at stop lights, because as soon as you move, it kicks you back to the previous screen (iirc). If I had it to all over again, I'd spend that $3k on hookers and blow, and just use my phone for nav. |
I have the Nav, I like the integration, the looks, iPod interface and music box. I don't like the safety feature of having most functions blocked while driving. But I fixed this with a override module. But what I really HATE is the ridiculous cost to upgrade the maps.
Nissan send me this e-mail with a nice offer: "Get your Map update for only (!!) $ 100,- normal price $ 150,-". Not cheap, but doable. This is, until you read the fine print: For '10 and up you can do it yourself with the DVD/CR-ROM. But to upgrade the maps in an '09 Z you have to take the car to the dealer. I called 3 local dealers to see what they charge for the update: 125, 140 or 244!!!. So buy the update code for 100, take that to the dealer and drop another 125 to 244. So a possible $344,- for a simple NAV map upgrade WTF??? :shakes head: |

I see all these wannabes thinking the evo12 is hot **** . It's a great tire for my wife's sedan not a sports car. Ihad it on my 335 and I hated it. Go to clublexus.com you'll see how many racers in their is250 who loves the evo12s |
I do store music on it.
I refuse to pay a subscription for radio. I love the nav. Better than my wife pioneer I love the integration with the rest of the car. |

When Sirius and XM first came out, you were paying for commercial-free radio. Then, years later, they started slipping them in. My buddy has been subscribing to XM since it first came out. Riding in his car, I stopped him one day and said, "What, what was that? Was that a commercial?!" He said, "Yeah, the DJ's need breaks once in a while you know?" I said, "Isn't that what music is for?" :roflpuke2: |
Just like regular commercials in movie theaters. What's that about? and I'm paying more every year for a ticket.

I was a subscriber even with the short "you're listening to sirius radio" plugs they did that rubbed me the wrong way until my favorite station, which was some classic rock station, started playing commercials. I about blew my fuckin top. Called em up and quit. They sent me some questionnaire about why I quit, which I thoroughly filled out and never heard anything about. I figured they would send me a generic Email, or a coupon for a free couple months or something ... nothing. |

Got to love forums and all the senseless bickering. For me, and me alone, it boils down to these things: First, I find it to be nothing more than an expensive toy that adds little or nothing other than convenience and fancy looks. For less money I can have all the same features, whether after market, a smart phone, an ipod/ipad, a portable DVD player, a portable navigation unit, or other things. So if you have the money and want convenience and better looks, by all means, buy it. I'll spend my money else where, because I'm not that well off. No worries. Second, I spend 97% of my time in the same town that I've lived in for years. There is zero need for me to have a navigation device at home. For trips with my wife, since we also have an SUV, we most likely won't be taking this car. On long trips to strange cities where navigation would be cool to have, we would fly anyway, so what good does it do me sitting in the car at home? None. Besides, again, a smart phone is a better thing when traveling to strange places because it can do so much more. Third, I'm not directionally challenged. Some people I know can't find their arses in broad daylight. Both my wife and I are not one of those people. We have gone on many trips to strange cities over the years and never had an problems. Forth, I already own a portable DVD player, so no need for that. Not that I would ever use it in my 2 seater sports car anyway. We've never used it in our Solstice for sure. Fifth, I already have a 160 ipod which is mostly full, so that music box thing is a waste for me. Bottom line, for ME, it's a total waste of money. A total waste, like throwing it out the window. :shakes head: For you, it may be the best thing you ever paid for; something no stranger can help you with. The decision is yours based on your money reserves, your lifestyle, your traveling habits, your ability to "self find" your way around, and how important it is to look cool inside. Good hunting. |
Im not cheap, I have had my Garmin Navi for 3 years now and it has not failed me yet. It was only 200.00 and it still works. I have it on my left side windshield. I dont really care for sound of the music or more tech in the car. I enjoy driving it the most without playing around with the buttons. And plus I have the Nismo so it doesnt really come with tech stuff.
|
If NAVS suction cupped to your windshield with wires running all over your interior or an aftermarket screen stuck down by the shifter is your thing go aftermarket. If a screen sunk into the dash (to prevent glare) with steering wheel controls and system monitoring capabilities then get the OEM
|
You guys are totally missing the point.
Where are my sunglasses going to go IF I have navigation! |

If you think about it, nothing is ever too expensive. It all depends on how much you value the features you get. If you value them enough, you'll pay any price.

Haha man its funny how a seemingly harmless question has turned into this. Its good stuff though! I had gone to the dealership again today and test drove a Nav one and I think I'm sold on that. I previously have an aftermarket system in my G35 and even though it was a good system, It was a pain in the *** to install and i told myself i aint putting myself into that again. So I placed a down on a 11' MB touring sports Nav package. Thanks for all the great input from everyone which made it much easier for me to choose =)

^ EXACTLY, happy..... am with ya there.
In fact, let's keep it simpler. According to him, folks who own a Nismo 370 are cheap and have little money... LMAO. |

The Nav unit makes the interior look so much better, IMHO. I just bought the car with it because of the appearance (It flows nicely) plus features. Infact I skipped over the 370z Anniversary Edition because it didn't have a Nav Option (Just my preference). That being said, it integrates many features of the car into one place which I do also enjoy (voice command controls the nav smoothly and I have used it many times while driving, as someone as mentioned you can use this to access the features while in motion). I hate the way the non-nav interior looks. But then again that's me and I don't care about $3000 option (You end up paying "near" invoice for the car anyway) Cheap? No. But if money is an issue then don't purchase Simple as that. If you are cheap and don't want to buy it, then don't buy it (I find that post amusing!). The Z is a great "cheap" buy when you don't load it up.

All of you who think people who buy a Z without a nav option are "cheap" need to realize that some people choose NOT to buy the nav option for other reasons, not just money. |
I liked the Infiniti look of the nav
