From the last cars that I have owned, most of which either had a twin disk, or a heavy pressure plate, the Z's clutch was actually so soft, it made it hard for me to drive.

I'm used to it now, but it use to be a disappointment.

My 370 was the easiest clutch to engage over and over, I have ever known. My 1953 Chevy clutch would likely kill some. The same clutch my Grandma drove until she was 86.

If this deters you from buying a manual, you need more exercise. It is not the cars fault. No, it is not fun to crawl in traffic with or without an automatic.

This subject now reminds me of the whole VDC off, equals sure death opinion. Please do not blame the car for your own deficiencies.

+1

I have no clue why people bitch about manuals in traffic. Have owned cars with heavier clutches than in the 370Z, Mustang, my Z, etc. and had no problem for hours in traffic rolling through Houston. My advice is the same as yours. Some people need to stop being physical failures at life. (barring of course legitimate medical reasons/injury)

I know what you mean. I had a restored 1963 Impala SS until a few years ago (sometimes I wish I still had it) with a 4-speed and the clutch operation was ... well, let's just say that it was easier than pushing the (non-power assist) brake pedal to stop this beast, but not by much.

I had many people tell me how unusable that clutch pedal was...

I've often thought that the development of the automatic transmission was the beginning of the downfall of western civilization!!

I think the internet is even worse. Screw going out and actually meeting people. I have you all right here. See what I mean? Social life suffers, etc.

Then again, I deal with people a lot where I work. I like to get away from people on my days off and the 'net is perfect for that. Cheaper buying stuff online, too.

Still, it's a double-edged sword in the extreme and I have to watch myself with it.

the internet is the devil...

or at least the rednecks around these parts would like you to think so

Saying "I'd rather not do X" is hardly "bitching" about using a manual.

You can't really deny that an automatic is far easier in traffic. It might not be by much, but it is certainly easier. Same with VDC. No, it isn't a magic button that if pressed will make you instantaneously crash, but under normal, daily conditions, there's no real reason to keep it off.

Outside of that, it doesn't even matter. These threads are pointless because it's ultimately a personal choice. Plus, it's also been done to death a trillion times.

Though, I guess the marine line was new. :p

But you did it the intelligent way, you retired(?) and went to the dark side with civilian contracting, where the big money is. I will say marine pilots have major testicular fortitude because the airframes they were flying where falling apart, more hundred mile an hour tape than I've ever seen used. If you don't mind me asking, which bats where you with? I was 277asb and 1-10 attack and 3-3 attack. all at fort drum.

Whatever your branch or what you do or did, THANK YOU ALL for your service to the country!!! :tiphat:
