"Go tell it the Marines"
For the first time in the 370, I ended up in ten miles of stop and go traffic, over one hour. From all the complaining about clutch engagement I've heard, how hard it is, tiring etc. I just want to say next time "Go tell it the Marines". What a bunch of lazy out of shape pansy's we have here. My 370 was the easiest clutch to engage over and over, I have ever known. My 1953 Chevy clutch would likely kill some. The same clutch my Grandma drove until she was 86.
If this deters you from buying a manual, you need more exercise. It is not the cars fault. No, it is not fun to crawl in traffic with or without an automatic. This subject now reminds me of the whole VDC off, equals sure death opinion. Please do not blame the car for your own deficiencies. |
Which oil should I use? :stirthepot:

The Marines can't hear me over all the road noise :stirthepot:

Judging by the ASVAB score needed to get into the marines... Not saying much... :stirthepot:
"I Push Clutch In, I Let Clutch Out" |
I've never heard anyone complain about the Z's clutch being hard or tiring, in fact quite the opposite. Most complain the pedal feel is very vague and you can't feel the pressure plate at all. Nissan has been using some helper springs in to the pedal to assist the driver for some time which feels like crap IMO, you can pull the spring out or swap it for a softer rate spring and its much improved.

I pick things up and put them down  :rofl2:

And there's the reason why, if you spell it with a capital letter, you're accepted. |

And no, I'm sure the last thing he was thinking was "Checklist Complete... Punching :ugh: " |

I typed that while coding for software, :eekdance: |
Actually, I would like to have it a little stiffer. Better feedback, less wear.

I spent three years in Kandahar, & while I was there VMA-214 & -231 passed through, along with VMFA-232. Those guys would walk over to our hanger about once a month, looking for hardware, or to use the sheet metal forming machines. I can understand the pride those guys feel, but the elitist attitude never came across to me.
BTW I'm a former 15U (CH-47 mech), & I go way back to when aviation MOS were 67 series. I taught a lot of young mechs & new crew chiefs in my time, & yep, there were times I though the same thing you do, Rooster. I finally hung up the uniform in 07, & became a contractor. I got to Kandahar, & it initially seemed that I picked up where I left off, helping the young maint troops. I never withheld knowledge from those guys. They needed all the help they could get. |

I was in the Marines, 0656. Currently a computer tech for NC State Dept Edu. so definitely one of the smart ones. Oh yeah and I've never bitched about the clutch because I'm not a pussy lol

Was VDC off?

From the last cars that I have owned, most of which either had a twin disk, or a heavy pressure plate, the Z's clutch was actually so soft, it made it hard for me to drive.
I'm used to it now, but it use to be a disappointment. |

I have no clue why people bitch about manuals in traffic. Have owned cars with heavier clutches than in the 370Z, Mustang, my Z, etc. and had no problem for hours in traffic rolling through Houston. My advice is the same as yours. Some people need to stop being physical failures at life. (barring of course legitimate medical reasons/injury) |

I know what you mean. I had a restored 1963 Impala SS until a few years ago (sometimes I wish I still had it) with a 4-speed and the clutch operation was ... well, let's just say that it was easier than pushing the (non-power assist) brake pedal to stop this beast, but not by much. I had many people tell me how unusable that clutch pedal was... I've often thought that the development of the automatic transmission was the beginning of the downfall of western civilization!! ;) :driving: |

Then again, I deal with people a lot where I work. I like to get away from people on my days off and the 'net is perfect for that. Cheaper buying stuff online, too. Still, it's a double-edged sword in the extreme and I have to watch myself with it. |
the internet is the devil...
or at least the rednecks around these parts would like you to think so |

You can't really deny that an automatic is far easier in traffic. It might not be by much, but it is certainly easier. Same with VDC. No, it isn't a magic button that if pressed will make you instantaneously crash, but under normal, daily conditions, there's no real reason to keep it off. Outside of that, it doesn't even matter. These threads are pointless because it's ultimately a personal choice. Plus, it's also been done to death a trillion times. Though, I guess the marine line was new. :p |
