Increasing your MPGs?
I just wanted to know if you guys were able to notice any increase in your MPGs with any upgrades and if yes what parts?
|
traditional internet "fact" is that doing any intake or exhaust mods will theoretically increase your fuel efficiency as the engine doesnt have to work as hard to intake air, or exhaust the...exhaust. however, do to the fact that it also increases horsepower, you'll likely be on the gas more often to hear the new musical notes or enjoy the new found power.
also, the fact that these mods cost upwards of 1-2k, even if you continue to drive normally, your initial investment put towards the mod will take years, if ever to recover in gas savings. |
Buy a prius.

If your worried about your gas bill put regular gas in your Z.

Use water instead.

The single biggest impact you can have on your MPG is buying tires with lower rolling resistance. That's code for less grippy, less performance tires. Since switching to RE-11s (high rolling resistance), my fuel economy blows even with pretty modest driving style (~17 city/21 highway). But that's the name of the game with a performance car. |
Diesel usually gets more MPGs than gas
|
Ummmm it was just a simple question as I saw people saying that their intake and exhaust helped with it while adding power. All I wanted to see is what upgrades give you both but thanks for the help guys that was very helpful.

lol no I just don't understand why half the people are on here just to say crap like that. to all the others thank you for answering my question.

oh it was a serious question?? my bad

After I installed my varis lip I noticed my 10 mile commute's mpg went from 21 to about 23. I fill up and reset the mpg computer every time. When I drive on the highway I can get 30 mpg +, I got 33 driving 30 miles. I found it interesting the lip reduced drag. A lip isn't a way to save gas.

Not an upgrade but keeping the air filters clean and the tire pressure correct makes a big change. Also driving style as spearfish mentioned has a huge effect. If you keep the multifunction gage on instant mpg and modify how you're driving to get the best rate of fuel burn your mpg goes up more then you might think. I had an XB before and would many times get highway or better mpg during around town driving. The added benefit is you usually are carrying less energy in case of an accident. Good question

Don't drive after you fill up. Your gas mileage will sky rocket. ;)

Enjoy your Z,don't talk about high petrol comsumption.!

Drive like an old woman.
I'm at only ~240 miles or so but so far my MPG is 13.4 :x Seems odd -- I don't drive it THAT hard. But I know driving style has a lot to do with MPG |
i just really wanted to know because i picked mine up last friday and i only have 200 miles on it right now. Ive been driving it a little hard but not too bad and my mpgs came out to be 16. I thought it was going to be around 19 or so.
|
Ive haven't reset mine in a year. I get 21.1 mpg

Maybe some how you really did reduce CD and that would be good enough explanation for me. |

And the worst mpg I've seen is at the track with just 6 mpg. |

The best may to improve MPG is to drive the car like you are breaking in the engine according to owners manual. In other words keep the rpm's down and don't enjoy your purchase. The only times I ever got better than 16 MPG was under these conditions. Sports car fun at a minimum costs fuel. When I fill up my tank and find I am getting less than 12 MPG, actually makes me smile, because I know I got my moneys worth. OP, Good luck with your situation.

12 mpg is impressive

on the highway I noticed the best mileage is between 55 and 80. So take your pick on what speed you want to be at. It all gets you around 23-24mpg's. But if you use CRUISE CONTROL? There is where you will save an enormous amount of gas. Last night in low traffic, I used CRUISE in the city at 50mph and was getting around 22-24 city. (I have radar and most speed limits are 40-45mph, on huge wide low trafic roads. Tx is designed this way. Do not try in major cities with lots of people sharing the streets with you.) On the highway I did 80 in a 70 on the left lane on cruise and was receiving a range of 22-30 mpg depending on terrain changes... So if you want to save the most gas mileage, use CRUISE as often as possible. Get off the line fairly quickly to come to speed. Don't smash but don't crawl. This is something I will definately preach more than practice. Its hard to save gas in a car this fun. :driving: |
Stop caring about fuel economy when I bought the Z... that's NOT why I bought it!

SRM off, clutch in.

I often add di-hydrogen oxide after a fillup, and it makes a drastic difference.
