Performance Motorsports in NY is doing a great deal on oil cooler kits!
I don't know which sizes because they offer 3; it would be better!
I know their deals are with installation and I've only heard great things about them.
But I do understand you are in Canada and that may be a far drive.
Oil cooler is definetly a need on the list of parts for the 370Z if you are a serious driver and care about the Z.

Fuel Injector Service: Don't let dealers do it. Especially on a new(er) car. Buy a bottle of Techron, the size that treats 20 gal. of fuel. It runs about $8. Drive your car until the low fuel warning light comes on, pull into a gas station, add the Techron to the near empty tank, fill up, and do it again every 5K miles. You will likely never need fuel injector service by a dealer.
You are welcome.

If you drive under normal conditions on public highways you do not need a
oil cooler. even when you drive her like you stole her. i have never had a oil temp issue............ now on a track thats a whole other can of worms.....

oleg 05-03-2011 09:17 PM

Whats supposed to be the average running temp on the Z?

spearfish25 05-03-2011 09:18 PM

180-220 is normal range. Ideal is ~190-200.

this is about where my Z's at during street driving (and some spirited driving. :D)

i too dont see why i would need an oil cooler for my application...

oleg 05-03-2011 09:38 PM

i think i might have the same problem as the op than maybe? Mine runs around 220 on the street driving. The car has only 150 miles on it. I understand that i might run the car a little harder than most on the street but i dont see the reason for my temp being there when cruising at around 3k rpm

sucasa 05-04-2011 01:13 AM

Mine pushes up to 190 - 200 when its up to 85 degree weather outside.. that's daily traffic in northern va/dc which sucks pretty bad. i haven't seen the temp go above.. even spirited driving.. spoke to the dealer, he said same things you said that.

If I driving on a track on a regular basis, oil cooler will help.. But this car has been tested for daily grind by the labcoats in Japan pretty extensively. If they tested it and stick to their word, I am good. I got an extended warranty just for peace of mind..

And the dealer FINALLY got the oil cooler in stock. Over 3 months, un-freaking believable. Gonna bring the car down Monday to get it installed.

Also a few days ago I got back from over a week driving my old Subaru Impreza while I visited some relatives up in Washington. Man that thing felt dog slow with me and my dad in it. I really forgot how slow that thing is after being used to my 370z. It felt really good to be back in the 370z when I got back =)

So I was kind of surprised by this. I came to the dealer today (I am actually still at the dealer using their wireless) to get my oil changed (I am at 18k+ miles) so I had them give me the values for the tires as well (the tread is low, 3 on front 2 on rear) which is pretty much what I expected. My bill is gonna be more this time since I am also getting the air filters and stuff (doing their 15k maintenance stuff). Anyway everything I am having tone today is gonna be about $200.

I wasn't super surprised to find out that my tires need replacing which I figured I would be doing soon. Their service manager (I am guessing) actually came to ask me about the camera in the car (they were wondering if I do street racing or drifting, lol). Anyway the thing I didn't expect is them to come out later and recommend I get an oil cooler (totally out of the blue). They are gonna give me a quote on it and I will consider doing it but they said it wouldn't be covered under warranty.

I did find it surprising that they said nissan recommends the oil cooler if you drive for extended periods of time (I drive it 80 miles every day I work). Oil temps are the *one* thing I don't like about my Z so I might consider doing it if its under $800 installed. I must say I am surprised to here the recommendation from them though.

Anyone else have this happen to them?

The oil cooler was my first modification. I can't imagine living without one again. This car gets the oil hot. I do admit to driving my car the way it was intended to be driven. I would not be going to Sears Point today without an oil cooler.

:iagree: It was my first mod as well.

I've noticed that my Z runs around 220-230 on the highway. But that is with triple digit heat as well. If I start running my car at a track or autocross I plan on getting an oil cooler installed as well.

Sounds like you've found one of the better Nissan dealers. I believe that the Nissan oil kit is around $800, excluding labor. And yes, Nissan states they will not warranty the oil cooler, so your dealer is being honest.

Which it sucks because Nissan knows of the oil temp problem/issue on most of the 370Zs even if you are not tracking the car. :shakes head:

ImportConvert 08-21-2011 10:18 AM

Stay away from the dealership unless you can bring a knowledgeable friend. They are pissing down your boot and trying to convince you its raining.

I've literally never seen anyone run into temperature issues when they weren't on the track (or driving like they were on the track).
