Default If you drive a Nissan, you're not an American?

Some aspects of this post may offend some members and that is NOT my intention. Please don't miss the main point. A new neighbor moved in a week ago. I saw he had a 67 GTO, totally restored, good, his wife a newer Pontiac sedan, and they also had a Chevy truck. I try not to judge but, having lived in this part of Missouri for 20 years, I have encountered a certain mentality that equates owning "foreign" cars as bad. I introduced myself and told him the previous owners were meticulous in their care of the home. He said, "Of course they were, or we wouldn't have bought it." His tone was a little smart a&$ but I shurgged it off. I told him they put a lot of time in the yard and so forth. He told me of course they did because that is the only kind of home they buy. I tried again. I commented on how nice they and all their new neighbors were. He said I would notice no change with them. I told him I keep to myself, mind my own business, and whatever he did on his property, house, driveway, etc. was none of my business. He stared at me without answering as if he didn't like what I said. I tried one more time. I commented on how nice his 67 GTO was and mentioned I had some old cars I played around with and hoped to get to them one day. He asked which kind? I told him 66 Plymouth Valiant convertible, 68 Barracuda, and a 68 Charger that was maybe more rust than metal. He then grabs me around the neck, I kid you not, and shakes me saying, "Then why are you driving Nissans!" My wife has a Sentra. He asked me again saying I should drive only American cars. So I had had enough. I told him I wasn't buying cars from companies whose unions gave money to elect people hostile to my political interests especially my liberty. He asked what I meant and I told him the 2nd Amendment. He then launches into talking points about no one needing a 35 round "clip." I explained my dad carried an M1 Garand in the Korean War and no one had a 35 round "clip." He then began to pepper me with one question after another asking a new one before I could answer and old one. He then tells me he is from Detroit, is a GM Auto worker, an assembler, and was transferred to Missouri. He told me he was union and a Democrat. He then tells me I am a teacher, (my neighbors told) and how do I feel about that. I told him I am not in the union and wouldn't join one because I don't want labor money going to Democrats or Republicans. He then tells me, "Well, I'm a true blue American. I'm American to the core, I drive American cars, am in the union, and a Democrat." In other words, if you are not like that, you are not an American. He then excused himself and went into his garage. I finished cutting the grass and then backed my red Z out of the garage and washed it, slowly, even though it was clean.
