I would try to help, rather than given my brand new car to a family member after I have sweat my azz, thru hell and high water to buy a brand new car.

That happens to me all the time with family members, and I tell them get a J.O.B!

Not rude at all IMO. Our country is based too much on hand-outs, and a US Marine doing his job overseas and an older brother who can't even buy his own car mooching off of him pisses me off, and I'm not in the military and I don't have a brother. Just the principal of the matter.

Now if there is more to the story than what OP presented (owe's older brother money, etc.?) then I digress, but based on what I read, someone is overseas working while someone else is suckling on their hard earned cash.

Im a big family guy myself, but I would still go with option 1. This way youre helping him out big time with 2k towards a used car, but thats the end of your expense. I dont think he will mess up the car's transmission learning to drive manual, it only takes a few days to learn enough, but a million other things can happen that may end up costing you more than 2k.
