How do you drive your AT Z

I have no regrets about getting my Z with the 7 sp at. In fact the price of this car was the deal maker. Don't get me wrong I love a manual trans, but I wasn't going to pay 6k more for the stick. Now that I've had the car for 8 months I find myself shifting manually more and more- and loving it. In stupid rash hour traffic I'll leave it auto, but on the open road I'll put it in manual and have a blast. It's nice to have a tranny that is actually built for that.I had an '03 Accord v 6 coupe that the tranny died at 30k-and I couldn't reaaly sift it like the Z.To me the at is the best of both worlds.:tiphat:

6K more for the stick? when i went to my dealer looking for my MT 370z, the first thing the sales guy said was 'sorry we're out of AT's.' so i played him from there 'damn it, so you only have MT's, huh? ' and so the dealing went.

next i made fun of the bestbuy boombox cluster, and the stupid big side view blinding side mirrors, etc. :icon17:

so i paid invoice and went home happy in the exact trim and option i wanted. :p

:iagree: (although I don't know why you found that the price of a 6MT was $6K over the price of a 7AT )

i was wondering the same thing..the only thing i can think of is that even tho the AT costs more traditionally, the demand for a MT 370z is probably higher than AT. i have nothing against AT but for me, getting a 370z was my chance to have fun with MT. but even still, 6000k difference? a base model up to a touring model is like a 6k dollar difference, i dont see how the transmission type would effect it that much. unless he is talking specific cars here with different options other than the transmission...

I'm going to join the stunned disbelief crowd about an extra $6k for the manual.

Did the 6spd have a solid gold shift knob???

WOW... they must be doing reverse exploitation where you are from. Here in dallas, if you buy an AT, you are gettin reamed up the A big time.
Well I love my AT. Nissan makes the best slushbox out there hands down. No one else comes close in the slush dept. First off I'm surprised how low torque converter drone is compared to other autos that shift. Though there are bouts where it can be overbearing. Most of the time its hardly heard.
Next thing I like, driving in auto mode, the car changes gears at 5 different levels of rpm depending on how you press the gas. I never seen so many levels of shift programmed into an AT. Press soft, you get 2500rpm gear changes. Press with a slight firmness it changes at 3300rpm. Get mildly aggressive and it changes at 4600rpm. Hit the accel hard 5200rpm. Floor it off the line it changes at 6000rpm. How sick is that. Nissan hit so many levels of mild and aggressive driving in auto mode.
Then you have manual mode. Change gears from the stick and the car feels like a human manual shift. There's a slight delay of about 1sec or slightly under. The car bucs a lil hard when changing gears. Just like a human. Change gears on the paddles and you are getting one-third second shifts. The shifts are super smooth and quick. Once mastered the second overdrive actually helps a lot in getting sick acceleration times. I couldn't utilize the 7th gear in my G as well as I could in my Z. Weird cuz its the same tranny and motor. Maybe its the overall package and weight that makes it better in the Z? I'm not a physicist so I won't even analyze.
The 7 at gives you a lot of driving options as far as styles and feels. All can be done in a traditional manual but the 7AT just deserves respect for its many attributes. I feel the 7at gives the Z a supercar feel. Which all supercars use F1 paddle dct transmission. The only difference between a dct and nissans AT is that the dct will not ever have converter drone. Maybe the aftermarket can come up with a drone free converter????

I always (unless in traffic) drive on manual mode. I like being able to drop a gear or 2 and accelerate instantly as opposed to waiting for the AT mode's delay

As far as how I drive. Its 50/50 drive it like a moonshiner during prohibition and then mild aggressive to get some better gas mileage. I can granny it more for mileage but, I can't sorry. Lol

The was an 09 leftover that I got for 28k(sticker was 37k).If I wanted a stick I would have had to by a '10 and they weren't going lower the price much on those.
