How dangerous is it to do what they did on top gear?

They floored the gas and popped the clutch to burn out. I would love to try this, but am scared that it would cause damage. Please advise.

The drivers in that show drives the car like no one's business. They don't care about the car like we care about our cars. They only drive it for a few days at the most and then return it to the manufacture. If any of us got a car to drive as we wanted, we would not care about any kind of long term damages.

Doing this once in a while is okay. Just dont do it too often. After all, there is a 7.5k rpm for a reason. I did this few times and its alot of fun. Dont be afraid to hit high rpm. Our cars are able to handle AND made for those.

Revving to redline occasionally is OK, it will wear the engine faster, but, that motor's probably going to last 300K miles, which is way longer than anyone's going to care if it still makes 332 HP.

Side-stepping/dumping the clutch from 7500 RPM on the other hand, could screw stuff up real quick. Maybe the first time, even, if your tires are hot and the pavement is good and sticky.

I'll do it to your Z, but I wouldn't do it to mine.

So I'm going to do some research online but...

since this topic came up, whats the best way to warm your tires up in the pits of you are doing the 1/4?

I got peer pressured into some runs last Friday at the track lol, but I only pulled off a 15 which I imagine is due to my inexperience and slow starts (plus I had a 260lb guy on board with me)

I've done autocross but nothing for stright line speed

Dumping it from 3.5-4k can get the tires warmed up for the track.
