I can't say I'm personally that bummed - it means I'll get a better deal on one.

I had been wondering why I wasn't seeing any around. That brings up another benefit - more exclusivity. 350Zs are a dime a dozen at this point, but I've only seen one 370 on the road...

It's a bummer for Nissan, to be sure. It probably doesn't help that they got it out the same year as the new Mustang and the new Camaro. With the likely length of the model run, they'll probably do fine on the car, but I think they were hoping it would bolster their otherwise terrible-selling sedans...

Before I purchased the 370Z I owned a 2008 TT! On the forums I frequented I explained that I was thinking about buying the 370Z due to it lowering my monthly cost and having more horsepower! They all said that it would be a dime a dozen car and I would miss the exclusivity of the new TT. I responded with the fact that the economy will take care of that! With this thread, I say TOLD YA SO...to the folks on the other forum. :p
Glad to get that off my chest! :icon18:

I think that as soon people get more confident with their own expenses, their own economy, more secure (let me specify, tons of new grads, and Z's targeted market), the 370z will be a more common sport car. Maybe lots of people will try to get a 370z used to save some cash. But as time will pass by, 370z will be more common and more admirable.

Good to know! That was one of the things that bummed me out a bit about the 350z. I purchased my '03 early on and got tons of looks and comments. Everyone under the sun had a positive comment and I was stopped all the time at lights with a thumbs up or comment. 350Z owners always used to wave at each other and drive alongside to admire each others car.

It was amazing to me how quickly they became commonplace, at least here in the OC area. Now, they are a dime a dozen and you don't get anyone making a comment, much less other 350 owners even giving a wave. I know that's inevitable over the years, but I was surprised at how fast it happened.

I'm wishing Nissan success but also quietly hoping that the numbers for the 370 stay small for at least a bit longer than last time...

Good ammunition for the cigar puffing sales managers who say they don't need to sell at or below invoice because sales are so good, the car is flying off the lot, yada yada yada.

Cash is king. Cash is king.

Wow, that's one hell of a cut o.o. I'm sure it's just to be conservative, but something must really be up if they're dropping projections 66%.

I am not unhappy about it either. its been 13 years since they stopped making the 300ZX Twin Turbos and I love how you hardly see them on the road. I would love to see the 370Z production numbers stay low too.

this is good because we wont see a lot of them on the street and they wont be played out like the 350z.

Agreed. I have yet to see another 370Z in my area and I hope it stays that way for a while.

I'm going to play devil's advocate for a minute on this one. I too like the whole exclusivity angle of this, but I worry about the ripple effect on aftermarket companies. Take Stillen, for example. Stillen's bread and butter is in selling performance upgrades to folks like us who buy these cars. Now, I'm not trying to imply that Nissan is doing anything wrong -- if people aren't buying the cars, they need to cut back production, it's as simple as that. But as car sales decrease, so too does aftermarket sales volume. We may even see certain aftermarket manufacturers close their doors, depending on the state of their balance sheets. And even if a company is in good financial shape, they may decide to hold/scale back on product development for the 370Z, given that Nissan's production cuts guarantee fewer customers for their products. That would be the prudent thing to do, at least until Nissan's production and sales projections turn back around.

My point, then, is that while we may bask in the warm glow of driving relatively exclusive cars, let's not get too carried away. If you're not into modding, then this probably doesn't concern you. But for those of us who are, this news will most likely mean fewer choices and availability in the aftermarket.

Bellybutton

Gang,

Around the Midwest the 350 never was a (everyone has one) bellybutton car like a Mustang or some other like type cars. So I wouldn't be to worried about the 370 becoming a Mustang like car. Besides who in their right mind would want a Ford anyway<G>?

CantZme 04-14-2009 06:11 PM

I dont see anything less than 20k 370Z's being sold. Its probably the old cliche.. under promise over deliver. maybe itll help their stock prices when the actual numbers come out and its way more than the 10k their saying.
