Nissan Slices 370Z Sales Projections
|
I can't say I'm personally that bummed - it means I'll get a better deal on one.
I had been wondering why I wasn't seeing any around. That brings up another benefit - more exclusivity. 350Zs are a dime a dozen at this point, but I've only seen one 370 on the road... It's a bummer for Nissan, to be sure. It probably doesn't help that they got it out the same year as the new Mustang and the new Camaro. With the likely length of the model run, they'll probably do fine on the car, but I think they were hoping it would bolster their otherwise terrible-selling sedans... |
Before I purchased the 370Z I owned a 2008 TT! On the forums I frequented I explained that I was thinking about buying the 370Z due to it lowering my monthly cost and having more horsepower! They all said that it would be a dime a dozen car and I would miss the exclusivity of the new TT. I responded with the fact that the economy will take care of that! With this thread, I say TOLD YA SO...to the folks on the other forum. :p
Glad to get that off my chest! :icon18: |
I think that as soon people get more confident with their own expenses, their own economy, more secure (let me specify, tons of new grads, and Z's targeted market), the 370z will be a more common sport car. Maybe lots of people will try to get a 370z used to save some cash. But as time will pass by, 370z will be more common and more admirable.
|
Good to know! That was one of the things that bummed me out a bit about the 350z. I purchased my '03 early on and got tons of looks and comments. Everyone under the sun had a positive comment and I was stopped all the time at lights with a thumbs up or comment. 350Z owners always used to wave at each other and drive alongside to admire each others car.
It was amazing to me how quickly they became commonplace, at least here in the OC area. Now, they are a dime a dozen and you don't get anyone making a comment, much less other 350 owners even giving a wave. I know that's inevitable over the years, but I was surprised at how fast it happened. I'm wishing Nissan success but also quietly hoping that the numbers for the 370 stay small for at least a bit longer than last time... |
Good ammunition for the cigar puffing sales managers who say they don't need to sell at or below invoice because sales are so good, the car is flying off the lot, yada yada yada.

Wow, that's one hell of a cut o.o. I'm sure it's just to be conservative, but something must really be up if they're dropping projections 66%.
|
I am not unhappy about it either. its been 13 years since they stopped making the 300ZX Twin Turbos and I love how you hardly see them on the road. I would love to see the 370Z production numbers stay low too.
|
this is good because we wont see a lot of them on the street and they wont be played out like the 350z.

I know this is going back to another thread but i still only have seen one where i live

I'm going to play devil's advocate for a minute on this one. I too like the whole exclusivity angle of this, but I worry about the ripple effect on aftermarket companies. Take Stillen, for example. Stillen's bread and butter is in selling performance upgrades to folks like us who buy these cars. Now, I'm not trying to imply that Nissan is doing anything wrong -- if people aren't buying the cars, they need to cut back production, it's as simple as that. But as car sales decrease, so too does aftermarket sales volume. We may even see certain aftermarket manufacturers close their doors, depending on the state of their balance sheets. And even if a company is in good financial shape, they may decide to hold/scale back on product development for the 370Z, given that Nissan's production cuts guarantee fewer customers for their products. That would be the prudent thing to do, at least until Nissan's production and sales projections turn back around.
My point, then, is that while we may bask in the warm glow of driving relatively exclusive cars, let's not get too carried away. If you're not into modding, then this probably doesn't concern you. But for those of us who are, this news will most likely mean fewer choices and availability in the aftermarket. |
Bellybutton
Gang,
Around the Midwest the 350 never was a (everyone has one) bellybutton car like a Mustang or some other like type cars. So I wouldn't be to worried about the 370 becoming a Mustang like car. Besides who in their right mind would want a Ford anyway<G>? :tiphat: |

nismo 370z getting mine july baby! |
I dont see anything less than 20k 370Z's being sold. Its probably the old cliche.. under promise over deliver. maybe itll help their stock prices when the actual numbers come out and its way more than the 10k their saying.
|
Well what do you guys expect. If they wanted to make it more exclusive then it would have cost 40k plus.
I guess the exclusiveness is good but if this keeps up then the future of the Z is not a good thing. Quote:

no wonder why i only saw like 3 on the road. well only time will tell if there is a ripple effect of this.
|
I have yet to see another 370 in Cincinnati.
|
i have only seen ONE 370z, and that was on hollywood. oh scratch that, i have seen TWO. both grey.
i can't wat to get mine hopefully by the end of this year, after the 2010's come out, i'll try to get an 09... |
Saw my first one today (off a dealer lot) on Tyndall AFB.

But again that car was stickered at 47k with the options I had...I think Nissan's market being that much bigger will make the difference and we should be ok!! Good point made! |
The poor 370Z sales has everything to do with the world economy. Nothing else really. The majority of consumers in the market place do not have the confidence (or ability) to purchase a new vehicle. For me, I have a daily driver truck (paid for) and my Z is paid for. There is no way I would go finance a new vehicle in todays uncertain economy. If I wanted a newer vehicle I would buy used and pay it off up front.
It's sad to see the effect it is having on the 370Z cause it's such a nice car. But that won't change until the economy improves. |
I see a 370Z everyday. I pass by Esserman Nissan everyday on my way to UPS 330 9 (Where I work.)
I think I may have seen one on the road. |
Need some HFC's ( available - even a choice )
Exhaust ( available - many choices ) ECU tune ( Cobb working on one - pending ) Trinkets ( cheap to make - plenty will surface ) Other stuff ( Japan are loaded with goodies ) I don't forsee any huge issues with tuning this car, even with a scale back on production. I do see a 4-6 week waiting period for products ( made to order type deal ) I don't think there will be any problem finding items to |
Intersting article. My VIN is in the 6000 range (Build 02/09) and our other 09 Z Built in 10/08 is in the 700 range. It looks like they were over 60% of quota in the first 3-4 months?

I'm going to be the voice of dissent. I don't know if it's Nissan's fault or the dealers' fault but, in this area, I don't think it's the economy's fault that they're not selling cars. If you want to buy a 370Z in this area, you're in trouble. There aren't many in stock. If you want an automatic transmission or the sport package, you will probably have to buy the car sight-unseen.
I've been to five (countem' FIVE) Nissan dealers in a 100 mile radius. Here's the rundown: Manchester (small town): 1 - MT, non-Sport Cookeville (medium-sized city): 1 - MT, non-Sport Murfreesboro (affluent burb): 0, yes ZERO 370Zs in stock. South Nashville: 0, yes ZERO 370Zs in stock. Downtown Nashville: 3 - All MT, All Touring, All GPS, All non-Sport. Arrrrrrgh! I can promise you that, if they don't have an AT for my wife to test drive, we're not buying a 370Z. As an old wisened salesman once taught me . . . if it's not in stock, it's not really for sale. Nissan? Get these dealers to stock a few cars and you'll sell more cars! |
It's called "Dealer Trade"

I have the same problem in Wisconsin. There isn't sh!t for selection. Most dealers don't have more than 1 and many don't have any! I want a 6MT base, sport package, monterrey blue (not picky about extras...kick plate, trunk mat, etc.). Dealer searched the entire midwest without any luck and with the uncertain wait time I refuse to order one even though they were trying to PROMISE me 2-3 months. Based on what others have said on here I cant believe that anymore so I guess Ill hold off for now. |
I took the specs to the dealship here in Austin the third week in January. They ordered the car directly from Nissan, and had it delivered in 5 weeks. (7sp auto/sport/navi/PG)
|
Called Ed Martin Nissan in Indianapolis to see what they had in stock. They didn't have what I wanted but said they would check and get back to me. They did that same day with two options. This was a Thursday evening. I decided on which one I wanted and was told I could pick it up Saturday after 1:00. That is service.
BTW, I got $3k off sticker in mid Feb which I thought was a pretty good deal at the time. |
