taxes and subsidies.

My fill-ups haven't reached that level yet, but I usually fill up when I have a 1/4 tank left. Currently hovering in the $60 range @ $3.89/gal.

BTW, I used to live in Flushing like 8 yrs ago :D

146 DOLLARS PEOPLE

and you guys complain. :shakes head:

I have to tank weekly.

How many miles do you drive a week?

Mt Tam I am 04-20-2011 10:04 AM

I told two former Z guys I was getting 11.7 MPG and they looked shocked and said what's wrong with my car. Nothing is wrong. I enjoyed every mile. The worst time in my Z was during break in, I got 16+-17.4 MPG. That was awful and no fun whatever.

A seventeen year old told my friend who was complaining about sports car mileage, said "Then buy a Prius."

HowStuffWorks "Gas Price Breakdown"

Unless you are referring to taxes or regulations that result in ethanol additives, I don't follow...

An angry letter to Opec or to Exxon et al might be more in order.

Also, I'd really like it if my tax money would stop paying for oil company subsidies considering they collectively are turning record profits.

The government is making more profit per gallon than Exxon is (taxes are higher than profits). Exxon at least makes the gasoline. The government just taxes you on the money you spend (that they already taxed when you earned it). I for one don't mind Exxon making a profit on their product....it's how they stay in business. Their profit margin isn't anything unusual compared to other industry, either. As far as Opec, they are making big profits, but the price is set far more by Wall Street than them. They can jump prices by squeezing supply, but that's not the problem at the moment. Speculation of future oil availability is what's driving it through the roof.

Pretty sure people in Singapore pay WAY more to their government than you do, buddy. Especially when it comes to the expenses associated with cars. But way to go telling someone to "shut up" and following that up with a delightfully ignorant statement.

Well be glad YOU are not paying $146 USD. You paid $101. ;)

I remember when the Euro and USD were the same. Not the case anymore... :gtfo2:

You can thank the speculators for that.

I got a story for you guys. I was at the pump filling up, a middle age man walked up to the pump next to where I was and started cursing out loud after looking at the prices, "these FCUKING speculators, FCUKKK, FCUUUKKKK"

Man was he angry...

I work at a gas station and its pretty annoying when people think we somehow get gas for free and we make 100% profit on it and raise the prices for fun. There are also some in that group who think we have a magic key that lets the pumps flow freely. I want to  when I talk to them, but I also have the urge to :rofl2:

But even when expressing his dissatisfaction, that guy in video is rather calm about it and he's spot on for cursing at those bankers and such.

I've use to work for an accounting firm that did taxes for these gas station owners. Depending on the franchise, gas station owners actually get reaped of much profit since a lot of them are using LIFO accounting rules to calculate taxes for their business.

It's pretty sad that they make more money off the car washing and vacuum pumps by cost/profit ratio than gasoline...and they make literally pennies when gas prices go up, hence some cost 10 cents per gallon more than others due to rent costs.
