I don't really think that's quite how it got started. Its roots are from rally racing since those cars slide very easy. Then, Keiichi Tsuchiya started drifting while he was racing and it became popular.

Hmm I wonder which NISMO Chris has, and what year. Chances are that its not signed in here! lol

Since I don't know anything about Drifting, please help me out. What I got from reading the posts is that it is not a race. They are sliding around and getting judged on style. Is that right?

Dart throwing is a sport.

Yes thats about the gist of it. 2 cars go at once in tandem. They go around a series of turns and try to get the biggest possible drift (slide) while trying to produce the most smoke and doing it the smoothest way possible while trying to get as completely sideways as possible while not hitting any cones or the dirt/grass/wall and then recovering from the drift just to do all of that said above all over again in the next turn.

This should explain a bit.

I use to follow drifting.. and yes Chris and his 370z are both beast.

But I find it more entertain how it is in Japan... dump flushed out shop cars drifting getting destroyed-missing-fenders-etc drifting~!

A friend of mine who works for a company that supplies some parts for this car so I just found out about this the other day. Looking at the website shows some cool stuff for 2012... I love our engine but a v8 just sounds awesome!
