I know i ate more gas in that car just because the car was too damn slow. i would have to floor it to drive with the crowd. But in the z you dont have to floor it. Just a little acceleration and you have already driven like a half a mile.

What your talking about there is power buddy :icon17:

The Z has more power and it takes more gas to produce it. Even though you're flooring it in the altima, you're still using less gas.

I for one welcome the increase in gas prices... you think we have it bad @ 4 a pop? Wake up and smell the **** around you...

Perfectly developed nations pay 2-3 times what we do for gas... why? because they need to give incentives to alternate fuel / public transport - what do we do? sell hummers cheaper at the dealership than they are in a nevada strip club... what do you expect?

Honestly - I have been enjoying having the roads to myself too - my commutes are more painless and there are less idiots on the road - honestly a change I welcome and a change for which I will gladly pony up a couple of extra bucks a gallon for. I honestly think this country is lazy and ignorant enough to sit on its *** and watch as other countries adopt alternate transportation - this will make us think. Every time you spend a 100 bucks on a full tank of gas - you will really want to go get that electric car / carpool / take a bus. Think about it - there will always be balance in the world and our time of sipping on free gas is coming to an alarming halt...

not comparing the two.but Chevrolet doesn't advertise the corvette much either. the last 370 ad i saw on tv was the one about the guy having a baby
and he walks out to his garage and turns his 370 into a altima......

Wrong. I believe its because they TAX there gas more

what alternative transportation are you talking about? Buses? metro?
Have you rode on a bus is a populated area. I rode buses for years in Brazil and believe me don't want to trade riding in your own car with a/c and music and all the comforts it offers

there will always be balance in the world and our time of sipping on free gas is coming to an alarming halt...

Free gas?? I never knew it was free. The only balance outa wack right now is that more of the world is using oil and we don't produce our own so we have to buy from other which has worked ok in the past when our dollar was worth something

cossie1600 04-04-2011 11:53 PM

Wait till they run out of oil, just calm down.

This topic nails home with ppl trying to buy older gas sippers for loads more than they are worth. Get offers nonstop saying how much for your older 91 prelude. Guy from work with a tahoe said name a price and ill take it. I said 3k! Thats over book and hes like ok but of course never brought the money. Last time gas was 4 bucks and change a gallon, I remember the old metro's and ford aspires were going for thousands! When normally they were worth maybe 800? haha I think the general Z owner has a bit more cash and on top of that, they have another car thats their DD.

Good topic though.

People are stupid to pay that much money for an old econobox, there are a lot of people with no brains out there.

My Take Is This Guys...

A. Would you rather have a chick who gives you the best sex of your life - a true freak, but can't cook to save her life, doesn't clean, is a bitch 24/7, is a gold digger, but is drop dead gorgeous.

Or...

B. A girl who is decent in the sack, cleans, cooks, is pretty - not drop dead gorgeous, is a real friend, doesn't do oral - but is open to "other" things and let's you play video games as long as you want, and is content with being middle class; doesn't need to live like one of the Kardashians.

Not a tough decision, least not for me - B is the clear winner.

"B" is basically the "Z" and maybe can even be lumped into sports cars in general. In a time when gas is so expensive and it's getting tough to justify spending $85 to fill up the tank every 7 days (minimum), the "Z" and sports car in general like somebody above stated, all things considered is a pretty efficient car - gas wise.

So while everybody out there is walking around with their "trophy" wives, they see us (Z and Sports Car owners alike) and they envy us. Sure they get some perks with their wives, but as a whole - we are MUCH happier and they are dying inside wishing they were as happy as we all are.

Weird analogy, but I see it this way. It's like, people can drive their Prius' (which actually hurt the environment more than a Civic) or their Chevy Volt etc. to save gas, but are they TRULY happy in it? Sure it saves them on gas (i.e. great sex, beautiful etc.), but does it feel like a Z or sports car? Does it look like one? Handle like one?

If gas were $8 a gallon, ask yourselves this question, if you're a Z/sports car owner - would you REALLY get rid of your ride to give in to the times?

NOT ME!

I'd adapt and like some of you have stated above, I'd find other means to get to and from, but NEVER would I consider getting rid of my Z or sports car. And if I couldn't afford two cars - I'd find a way TO afford the gas by giving up other things that cost me on a daily/monthly/weekly/yearly basis. After all, we are Z owners damn it and all these people with their electric cars, solar cars, flux capacitor vehicles, trucks, Hybrid's and so on will eventually get rid of their cars for the next best thing (kind of like people who try DROID then the iPhone and realize how awesome iOS truly is LOL).

As for us - WE WON'T - because unlike them, our cars are INSTANT classics. We have a sense of pride and loyalty in a way these others simply cannot appreciate. And when sh*t hits the fan one day and all the car company's abandon gasoline because it's $20 a gallon - I trust that Nissan will make a Z which will go with the times and that too will be an instant classic. Because we understand this - we will own it and in the end, in the grand scheme of things guys, even though gas is just about $5 a gallon now, it's what - $15-$20 more total than what we're used to paying?

Guys, we spend that on ******** every week. Some of us are smokers (not I), some of us are pot heads (not I), some of us are addicted to video games (maybe me) etc. Whatever our vice is, if we budget correctly and FIND that extra $15-$20 a week for gas, TO ME that's a great trade-off.

So while everybody else is buzzing by at 60 MPH in their jelly bean, space ship looking hybrid's and "so called" environmental friendly vehicles - we'll ZOOM! by them IN STYLE...

BECAUSE DAMN IT! WE ARE Z OWNERS - IT'S NOT A CULT, IT'S NOT AN ACCIDENT, NOR IS IT A FAD...IT'S A CHOICE WE MADE...LIKE OUR Z FOREFATHER'S BEFORE US WHO PAVED THE WAY FOR US TODAY...

IT'S A WAY OF LIFE!

LMAO!!!!!!! Okay, I'm done ranting.

cossie1600 04-05-2011 12:27 AM

Wow, I am speechless

Z_ealot 04-05-2011 12:28 AM

i'd ride a bicycle the 10 miles to my place of work if i needed to save money on gas before the thought of even getting rid of a Z entered my head, then again thats just me, i budget to the extreme when i want to keep something i really want lol.

A: The one that has no money or imagination, NISSAN

You do realize Nissan is taking more design risks than anyone else these days, correct?

m4a1mustang 04-05-2011 08:10 AM

Manufacturers spend money on advertising when it's worth it to do so. Would NISSAN see any real gain if they ran a bunch of ads dedicated to the 370? Unlikely.

With regard to televison, GM doesn't advertise the Corvette much at all. Ford really never advertises the Mustang... the one exception being the commercial for the V6 (touting it's fuel economy because that's what sells these days).

The 370 is one of those cars you either want or you don't want. You usually know before you even drive it that you're going to buy it. For a product like that you're better off buying a few print ads in some magazines that your target demographic would read. The first 370Z advert I saw was a print spread in a January '09 issue of GQ.
