Ya, thats a fear for sure...also more that they are not used to the horrible rear view angles

If its a classy place, chances are they've parked cars 5 x's what mine costs...so i try not to be a snob. But I always worry in the back of my head. I have the Valet map from Uprev though...can't go over 3000k ;)

hadokenuh 12-04-2012 06:25 PM

It's not really about how much our car costs, it's the hassle dealing with them if anything happens. For example, if you only notice some scratch/dent the next day, good luck with that.

Another thing is the fact that I've seen they drive my car recklessly in front of my eyes. What keeps them from doing it even more behind my back?

JungleZ 12-04-2012 06:28 PM

I would only be worried if I was lowered with Volks,, when I had my s2000 they curbed rash a tiny bit one night at a hotel party

Was a big story here last summer when a Valet took someones R8 on the highway, went around 160 and crashed...not sure how that all turned out.

But ya, would be a hassle to prove any damage etc.

It is nice though when they bring your car to the door and people are wondering who's car that is...then u grab the keys

No way I don't trust those jokers

SoCalBoy 12-04-2012 06:43 PM

will never hand over my keys to valet, not being snobby or anything. it's mostly due to being broke :bowrofl:

Worst fear came true. Valet wrecked it, huge dent in back bumper (they backed it into the car in the spot next to where they were trying to park). So I'm never letting a valet park my car again. Am I overreacting?

No :shakes head:

:roflpuke2: X2 also theres a reason I have one fob with me all the time and hid the other one so im the only one driving my Z. :D

Haboob 12-04-2012 07:48 PM

No. I don't/won't allow anyone, but me to drive my car.

mrthomr 12-04-2012 08:52 PM

Im a snob so that = No Valet. lol

Seriously though, if I have to valet I also take another vehicle as well.

I agree with this. I hate turning my keys over, but I generally only vallet at respectable places. Deep down I worry a little, but I am more worried about the every day A-hole whacking my door with their pos. At least with the vallet, there is a designated lot, and only a handful of workers. The sheer number of random people in a normal parking lot, unattended must increase the probability of something happening. Backpack zipper keying your car, someone backing into you, someone opening their door on you...... makes me sick thinking of it.

Japanjay 12-04-2012 09:39 PM

I explain to them how I dont let anyone drive my car, then ask if I can tip what I would if they did park, if I can park it myself. Most places tell me where Valet parking is then I go park it myself. Very few will be hesistant, but then I tell them they can walk me to the lot and I will park in a spot away from anyone so the chances of them filling the lot and having to park near me are slim. I have had only one turn me away. At which point my evening plans change and I go elsewhere.

I think we've earned the right to be a "snob" as some people say. This isn't a cheap car.

really, Camrys??? ummm...how's about no. you'd have to get a fully loaded camry just to equal the cost as a base 370Z:tiphat:

axmea? 12-04-2012 11:15 PM

Never. Last time I had valet is when they scraped the crap out of my g37's lip. Went to the same hotel with the Z and I parked it in front in the front where it wall not be moved.

thanks for confirming. is a base Z still not a Z? The Z is a great looking car and one of the best looking out there under $50,000, just that some people are treating it as god's gift to mankind, when in the end, it's just a car.

 so you're saying a Z is Just a Z, like any other car out there???

It's God's Gift to ME, Period. I worked very hard and am paying thru the nose for my Z. It's not only my baby, but it is an investment and an asset as well.

You can trash your z and treat it like Dog Poo if you want, just post that somewhere other than this forum. :p :icon23:

Oh, I almost forgot: It's a matter of Pride and Joy... That trumps all...

Of course. And there are Ferrari's, etc. that are more expensive too.

Still doesn't mean that this isn't an expensive car. And, because it's mine, it's my choice whether I want someone to drive it or not.

Selfish? Maybe, but I'm the one paying for it.

I don't see why anyone would argue against it. You can do what you want with yours, but expect to get a crowbar to the kneecap if you touch my car, friend or not. I've already had friends ruin my current car after just a few weeks of owning it, it's not happening again.

Footloose301 12-05-2012 09:33 AM

Idk about you guys but I take precautions so that I don't have to use insurance. It really irritates me when people say "it's just a car" or "that's why you have insurance". Guess what? Yes, I have insurance and it'll fix my car good as new but I don't want to have to deal with the insurance company, I don't want to have to drive a rental, I don't want make all kinds of phone calls and changing my schedule or missing work just because somebody doesn't care about another persons car.

If everyone had common sense and common courtesy then we wouldn't be getting unnecessary door dings/scratches and our Z's wouldn't have to depreciate faster than they have been.

It's like breaking your leg and somebody telling you, "don't worry, it'll heal". No, I don't want the pain in the first place.

LOL at all the people saying most Valets have driven nicer cars so there is no need to worry. This has nothing to do with the orginal question, I'm sure they drive cars 50 times faster and 50 times more expensive but that does not mean they did not beat on the cars. I would never valet my Z sorry.

RoshDawg 12-05-2012 02:06 PM

I used to be a valet attendant for Ace parking back in the day at a high end place (51% of the cars were bentleys). I never noticed anyone ever thrashing any cars, nor stall a MT. We covered any accidents, and I never knew of anyone stealing anything. That being said, we didnt let the cars warm up even for a second when bringing the cars back. I do know that other small time valet companies have shady people. I still try to park my car off site at valet events unless I really have to use valet.

B&W_Evader 12-05-2012 03:22 PM

The only other person who will get to drive mine is for the test drive after an alignment.

I bought a Camry SE (midrange camry V6) in 2002 for $27k. It's believable.

Flux 12-05-2012 05:19 PM

So, some more detail on my experience. This was an upscale place in downtown Austin. To their credit, they did inform me of the damage, and they are going to cover it 100% + rental car. I've taken it to my favorite body shop (they did amazing work on my Lexus awhile back) and they said that replacing the bumper should be able to make it look new without damaging resale since there will be no change in paint depth. Also, the driver has been fired.

Understand about difficulty with the low visibility out the rear of our cars, but my car was a touring -- has wide angle backup camera with guide lines showing you exactly where the car is going to go.

But, I will not feel bad about being a snob from here on out.

I'm curious about the place and body shop you are using.

I've let the valet at Chuy's take my car once. Nothing happened.

People who drive Lambos can buy other Lambo's on a yearly basis if they wish. I can't by a Z on a yearly basis.

Your Z maybe just a car, so you can treat your Z as just a car.

Mine is not. It is my Pride and Joy, My Investment, My Asset, My Baby.

Stop telling me to act like you do with your car. :happydance::happydance::happydance:

I was valet for about a year after college, and I'm not sure where some of you guys are going with these terrible experiences because with all the cameras and management out there with us, we were too afraid to even consider abusing anyone's car. Our garage was set up in a way that minimzed the chance of accidents and we only parked SUVs on spots with curbs in front of them. Valet was my first time driving a 370 actually, I knew I wanted one already, but that cemented it for me. Maybe I feel better about it since I used to be one, but I don't have much of an issue valeting if I have to. I do typically park myself though because I'm cheap and don't feel like paying for something like that unless it's my only choice.
