I know it sucks getting divorce, sorry about that. However you can try to refinance your car to a lower rate and payments.

I have refinance my car three times within a year, from a 6.5% APR to a 3.25% APR now.

Red__Zed 02-28-2011 04:17 PM

Sorry to hear you've got to let the car go.

VCuomo 02-28-2011 06:53 PM

Sorry about your situation.

Of course you know why divorces are so expensive, don't you?

Because they're worth it! :)

Nothing wrong with a nicely modded and clean 350Z. I think you'll be happy with the 07 or 08.

Good luck.

That's the least he can do.Love the color and the fangs. (could that be a metaphor?)

People, do we even know their situation, no, so stop making ridiculous comments like "make the soon to be ex pay". for all we know Sophia may be to blame.

Lets just stay neutral and offer car advice.

I wouldn't wish what you are going through on anyone - I've had quite a few friends go through it recently and it's never pretty. Hang in there and rely on your good friends!

I'd vote for a well cared for, used Z as a replacement. :)

I actually got the first dog when I moved in, second dog was a wedding girft to myself haha and the third pup I got after 2 yrs married. One each relationship stage... and than got rid of the third dog over divorce :(

To everyones question... Id be comfortable with a $300 mo payment. And Im only getting a one bedroom aprtment so I can downsize to a studio with 2 dogs and all my stuff. Im gonna be paying an arm and a leg for it just to stay local.

I agree... but I wasnt to blame for this.... Which is why Im trying to get him to atleast handle the car payments

Trips 02-28-2011 11:46 PM

Sorry to hear about your situation, and wish you all the best in whatever you decide to do. :)

SkyZ 03-01-2011 12:47 AM

i know this might not be taken too well, but how about considering a cheap, reliable beater until you get back on your feet. Save on those 300/month car payments and then come back to the 370z community in full force? Besides the 370z will be a bit cheaper as well. Just throwin ideas out there. Sorry to hear about your troubles.

Either which way I will still be in the Z community and will either have a 350z or maybe a 4WD car( any suggestions?!) And no smart azz comments please...this is not a good time thanks

Well, since you aren't going to tell the whole story and he isn't here to tell his...(although I am VERY curious how the woman lost the house and the car and the man paid for nothing if its all "his fault", considering how the court system USUALLY works...)

Anyway, try finding a cheaper appartment. I shopped around until I found a GREAT appartment for peanuts. You just look around and I bet you can cut a couple hundred off rent without sacrificing living conditions. Or rent a house. Or get a roommate.

Can you re-finance the car for a longer time frame?

If you have a good car and you like it and it has been reliable for you, try to hang onto her!

I'm VERY sorry to hear this Sophia :(. As many said, constant browsing on daily newspaper or rent.com (or few other cool sites) will lend you a nice apartment for really cheap! As for car, you can let it go. It's probably the best idea. Get situated first. Then, you can always buy another Z sometime down the line. If you need anything or help, feel free to let me know.

INKY will be missed! :( Hopefully we can find a good home from one of the forum member. Did you list it in the for sale section?

I guess one of the consequence of trading a 370z for another 370z contributed to the divorce.

No it wasnt actually..... he found comfort in someone else..... the divorce threat when I got the new Z, he already knew what he was gonna do.

Forrest 03-01-2011 03:48 AM

07 and 08 350z still pretty good in my opinion. I think they can be had for cheap

Just to say it again, I found a good roommate and got a very nice appartment in a low crime area and ended up paying $300 a month + electric and internet for a place to live during college. It can be done.

I would suggest moving in with someone you like, but are not friends with. Either another woman roughly your age who is in a steady relationship, or moving in with a gay guy who is in a steady relationship (from what I hear, hard to find).

I say this, because as a girl, it will make life so much easier on you living with someone who isn't going to have all sorts of guys over, and who isn't going to become "interested" in you. Wierd formula I know, but it keeps the BS to a minimum. Laugh all you want, but it's solid.

Pushing_Tin 03-01-2011 11:56 PM

Sorry about the Z, I divored my Z last fall. No car payment at all is a nice thing too. You can buy a perfectly nice reliable transportation appliance for well under $10k. You can get a nice late model Ford Taurus for $7k. Drive it for a year or two until you can get another fun car. Best of luck to you.

NewlyIMPORTed 03-02-2011 12:06 AM

sry to hear about the situation I hope It all works out

SophiaZ 03-02-2011 04:02 AM

Thanks again guys.
Call me crazy, but I'm torn between keeping the house or the Z. And there's no guarantee for either but I'm trying everything possible.
And as far as looking for a roommate...that's not really an option. All my friends are taken and have places of their own and I'm not sure if I'd trust a new person in my life being at my house and taking care of my dogs while I'm at work. But once again..I'm still trying to figure some stuff out. I'm staying positive about it all and that's all I can do and..........DRIVING THE Z LIKE I STOLE IT haha

I cannot afford the house on my own or the expensive car note...and living here in NJ..the laws are screwed up so if a short term marriage is terminated, there's no guarantee that the woman will get everything.. UNLESS she can pay for it all herself ( which I cannot)

And I just bought the car in October 2010..I doubt refinancing will make that big of a difference, if at all

AK...I won't be able to private sell unless I get rid of the negative equity first (Plan B)

So basically, it's your name on the dotted line, duel income covered it, he and you are done, responsibility reverts to the person who put their name on the dotted line, duel income is gone, you're up a creek.
Is this the summary?

That makes more sense and sucks. Sorry about your situation.

Talk to your bank/lender about missing a payment without penalty due to major life change. They might help you out with 1 payment. That will give you room to think.

tsolin01 03-02-2011 09:16 AM

Sorry about your situation. Considering that he seems to be in the wrong and the divorce would be his fault, you should be able to get something out of him. With that said, it's hard to start over being single again. Good luck and hope everything works out for you.

BLKNIZMO 03-02-2011 09:45 AM

wow sorry to hear that sophia... its gonna be tough as heck.. let me be the first to tell you... and dont part out the z if you dont have to... try to sell it im sure it will go fast..

This makes me a fan of separate finances. I always advised my friends to never buy anything they couldn't pay for 100% on their own if they dump their girl/she dumps them, and visa versa my female friends. I usually play the ref as I don't mess with the whole relationship game.

Yea I understand that now. In 10 years..I really had no worries, but things come up out of nowhere and this a lesson learned unfortunately.
