My point was a lot more people wrecked their cars before we got things like VDC.

Not sure what the insurance rate on the Z has to do with it...

I cant speak for anyone else here, but for me, the VDC takes the fun out of driving the car, or any fast car for that matter. I like to let the car get squirly, or fishtail when I cut a corner quickly if I so desire. Thats such fun.....as long as Mr policeman doesn't see you doing it, and naturally you have to be careful for safety reasons as well, but as I said earlier, you gotta know you and your vehicle's limitations, and if you are not comfortable, or sure of yourself, best leave that button alone!

!!Drive that baby!!!

They learned how to drive and there was no cell phone.

Anyone willing to turn off VDC is probably living under the illusion that they have miata doors to protect them. Woe unto them when they find out this isn't the case. :(

It was at 600am the temperature was 29 deegres going to work, the deal is I was making a right turn at 30mph hit black ice :shakes head: and the car went sideways, to corrected I had to push the throttle and do a powerslide:ughdance:. With VDC on I bet the car woulded caught greep and problably lost control:driving:. I was not specting that to happend. I think everybody needs to learn what your car is capable off:stirthepot: so when this moments comes you know what to do.

With it on it'll let you spin it a little before it kicks in. It's meant more along the lines of if you take a onramp too fast say at 80 mph and your back started to slide out to the point where any more will be dangerous/ spin your car that's when it kicks in and cuts power and uses brakes as necessary.....

I found it useful to know the limits of the VDC on my car, went to an empty parking lot and I figured out how much I can push it before it kicks in and helps me out.

It's this anecdotal, self-fulfilling BS that makes people think turning VDC off is a good idea. In reality, VDC would have modulated the brakes at all four corners to reduce your speed and kept your car from spinning. You probably would have been fine. Cook a turn so you plow and slide and see how fast VDC straightens your a$$ out.

They are still wrecking them now. We have better tires and technology. There might be less people dying, but people are still crashing it.

VDC uses a number of sensors on the car that detect wheel speed, yaw, control input, etc. If the computer detects that the car is not acting within tolerance of the intended direction of travel based on your control inputs, it will react.

Because it's a reactionary system, not a preventionary one, it won't keep you from sliding around or spinning the tires all together. It's there to act as a safety net for when things do go wrong.

Well, not surprisingly, there are a lot of people driving high-power RWD cars that don't understand one bit about physics and how it relates to a motor vehicle. For those people, it's probably best to keep all of the electro nannies on. :D

Mine is always off, in the rain, snow. Im not a fan of traction control. i like to control my car not a computer. ANDDD even with it off its still on so its never as much fun as i wish it could be because its still on.

Do what YOU want to do and feel comfortable doing. Dont go turn traction control off just because everyone else is doing it and not crashing their car. And dont go out and think ur a racecar driver bc u have a sports car. Just please be safe guys. Ive lost many friends due to stupid driving and im only 22. if you want to test your car out go to a track. My $.02

Why do people say this? The only system that can be deactivated is the ABS. With VDC off, I have no problem making the back of the car overtake the front.

VDC will not save you for sure every time but it can prevent the unaware from crashing. I do not love VDC and tend to turn it off a lot. I just can not remember to turn it off every time. In the rain I like it. It has been raining plenty as of late too.

tyler20c 02-28-2011 12:25 PM

I never drive with the VDC on no matter what the condition. If you try to pull out into traffic and get on it a little too much the VDC can slow your car and put you in harms way. With the VDC off, if the tail kicks out or the tires spin I can control that and keep it going like it should.
