if there's really no difference, everybody would drive a prius, there would be no demand for fast and high end cars. |

Fuel mileage figures that you see on the window stickers are based on going the speed limit. Highway 55mph. I get 21mpg all around. You can get more or less than whats on the sticker cuz it depends on a lot of different factors. I recently looked at a nissan rogue and the highway mpg is 28mpg, the sales guy tells me 33mpg. But the sticker says 28. Where or how he comes to this conclusion is beyond me. Car sales guys say alot of weird stuff.

there's a reason why you bought that z. i am sure a prius is a nice ride but you probably would enjoy cruising around town with the z better, when you are not using it for racing. |
As long as it is safe, cheap and somewhat environmental friendly. I could careless if it is made out of energons or WMDs. All I know is that I can get 42mpg on crappy boring drives when gas is $3.50 a gallon. Do I wish I have to Z from time to time when I am driving the Prius? Of course. But with the cost of everything being so high, I just learn to deal with it. (I also have soft semi racing tires on the car, not really affordable to drive 10K a year on it)

This guy knows how to waste money on cars :)
_____________________ Charlie Sheen goes on shopping spree this month and buys four cars By Steph, 25 Feb, 2011. Charlie Sheen bought four different automobiles in the past month that total to $790,000, according to a report from Access Hollywood. An insider said that he didn’t purchase a vehicle for himself. Sheen bought a Bentley for an adult film star friend worth $320,000, including taxes and title. He bought a $150,000 Porsche Turbo for a different adult film star. His rumored new girlfriend received a Mercedes-Benz S63 that’s worth $160,000. Meanwhile, Sheen’s soon-to-be ex-wife, Brooke Mueller, got a new Mercedes-Benz CL 600 for $160,000. Sheen purchased the new cars at Mercedes-Benz of Valencia in Valencia, Calif. source: Charlie Sheen goes on shopping spree this month and buys four cars - 4wheelsnews.com |
Anyway, who cares about mileage and the cost of gas? If you are really concerned about saving the planet and reducing your costs, you should not be driving a new $30k+ car such as a Prius or a Z. Instead, buy a 15 year old Honda Civic for $1000. Your costs are reduced by $29,000 to start, you'll get 30+ mpg, and you'll save the massive cost of manufacturing the new car.

yeah but i am a patriotic american, so i would buy new cars so the dealers could make money in turn improve the US economy :D

Hey, I have 2 cars! I'm not trying to waste money or kill the planet! You can't move kids to and from college in a Z.:icon14:
And look at Kenchan...he has something like 8 cars! I hear he keeps the running continuously, too. You know where he lives by looking a where the ozone layer is missing right over his driveway. :p |
there's a town in california called atherton. the news reporter says there are more cars than people there. on average, each person there owns 2 cars, even if they are kids :)
_______________ from wikipedia: Atherton is an incorporated town in San Mateo County, California, United States. Its population was 7,194 at the 2000 census. In September 2010, Forbes magazine placed Atherton's zip code of 94027 at #2 on its annual list of America's most expensive zip codes, with a median home price of $4,010,200. Atherton is one of the wealthiest cities in the United States |

There is definitely NOT a cost savings. When you factor in the total cost of ownership: car + insurance + maintenance + registration + storage + gas, etc. it costs more to own two cars than just a Z. A Prius is not a cheap ride either...... |
yeah but if you calculate the costs associated with driving two cars that cost $50k vs one car that costs the same amount, it's possible that you could save money with the two cars.

I will reserve my judgment until it comes out.

Can't knock a product until it comes out or have a chance to drive it. I was dead set on ordering a TDI Jetta until I drove a Prius.

As others have mentioned after breaking in it gets better gas mileage. For me the biggest effect on MPG is the air temperature.
My 370z seems to get the best MPG when its 70-80F out and worse when its hot or cold out. I used to get 26-27 MPG on my way into work (40 miles and 95% highway) and around 25 MPG on my way back. Now that its been a bit cooler out (50-60F) I only get around 24 MPG on my way in to work and 23 MPG on my way back home. |
A week ago, driving home from Atlantic City, I reset the trip computer stuff when I got to the Parkway. Checked when I got off: average speed (54 miles): 83.1 mph. Gas mileage (crosschecked): 25-26 mpg. Modest tail wind.
Two days later I was on the same route, and we got fresh hard-packed snow. I couldn't keep up with friggin' minivans on my OEM treads Average speed: 28 mph. Gas mileage -- hell, I would've poured it on the road if it would have helped the Z stick. This is not a winter-driving car. |
