M4 I guess it was something from Roush but he never had his hood open and I couldn't see any special brakes on it. No stripes either. But I didn't look real close had to keep the kids from dropping thier ice cream in my car as thier mothers chased the escapees. LOL Love cruise nights.

cheshirecat 02-22-2011 10:45 PM

A good buddy of mine moved from a 350z to the 2011 GT500. He loves it- he wanted more power and didn't want the headaches of going FI with the VQ engine. For him it worked out perfectly.

It's a very cost-effective way to get 500+hp reliably (and with a factory warranty).

I'm personally not too crazy about the Shelby kit looks wise but it is very quick.

For me, I think it's a better idea to just grab a sportbike if you need that kind of speed fix... if you aren't tracking the car.

Pretty impressive to have a meme that beats out FF quotes on a car forum, jus sayin

370Z Purist 02-22-2011 11:08 PM

Very resilient meme. Almost as resilient as the doors themselves.

With so many Mustang tuners (Shelby, Saleen, Roush, etc.) I don't see how you could ever stop modding one, although it gives you plenty of options.

CrownR426 02-22-2011 11:13 PM

If I could afford to do that I would in a heartbeat.
I test drove a 5.0 and man does it haul ***!
The salesman let me do many things others wouldn't have let me done.
12 second stock and 4 seater + trunk.
That's something to think about and I find it impressive they did a comparison with the m3 and the stang held it's ground pretty well against the much more expensive m3.
With boltons + tune you'd be ripping up most cars.
And of course you have to upgrade the suspension.

Dreezy562 02-22-2011 11:33 PM

the chevy dealer in my neighborhood has 15000 off 2011 corvettes 12000 off the zo6. id take the vette over the 5.0

id take the z over the 5.0 anyways

cheshirecat 02-22-2011 11:35 PM

I agree- the z06 is an amazing car and a great value.

I'd agree with the latter part, but not the former. Get me in a 'Stang 5.0 and let me floor it - the "FUN" will be written all over my kid-like grin when it PULLS from a stop.

I'm not a muscle car guy, but the new pony car is one of the best Ford's done - and they need it. As a company, seems they're gaining some traction.

Agreed. I'm not much of a Mustang fan, but Ford has come a LONG way in quality. I also own a Ford truck and took the new eco-boost truck for a drive. WOW! GREAT truck. I'm thinking of buying a new F150 and my wife wants the new Edge, which is a pretty cool vehicle in its own right. As I said, Ford has made great strides. Plus they didn't take the bail out, nor file bankruptcy afterwards!! Got my loyalty when it comes to something other than my Z. :tiphat:

EL Diablo 02-23-2011 01:25 AM

If the Z does not fit your life style then do the trade.
I've driven the 5.0... Awesome car that is a totally different ride than the Z.
I like them both for different reasons.
It's the Sports car/Muscle car difference you would expect.

I'd take both cars if I could. Hell I might even be conspiring to do so.

but if you can have only one car then the practicality of the cars would come into play
for me. That's why I have a Z.

I don't need no stinking back seats.

But I would like more than 400 HP.

Good luck!

Before I left they offered me a killer deal on the car (I'd be paying about $40 less per month than on my Z). I didn't commit to anything, but I am VERY tempted to make the trade. I'm just curious as to what some of your thoughts are and if anyone else has made a similar trade?

If ur gonna get a mustang? Make a worthy purchase. You can be one of the monotonous plain jane mustang GT's that roll out the assembly line as fast as Mc Donalds makes fries or you can hold out and get a limited production one of thiese...

I am not a fan of the Mustang, but why do people think so much about their 370? It's a sports car, but nothing rare or exotic about it. Both cars still came off an automatic assembly line, it's not like Mr. Yamamoto built the Z himself for us.

Of the big three muscle cars, the Mustang stands out. I live on a winding road where Mustangs (Chally and marrow too) are seen every day holding up traffic. If the twists are important to you, test drive it on some turns before you buy.

Did you not see the post mentioning the Miata doors!?!

:icon17:

Shamu 02-23-2011 09:35 AM

Before you know you have a good deal what did you pay for the Z originally? What was finance rate and how much do you owe now? How much are they willing to give you on the trade in?

What is price of the Mustang and what is finance term?

A payment less than your current car doesnt indicate a good deal.

...and its a Ford? Argh

Dreezy562 02-23-2011 12:21 PM

No the z isn't rare or exotic but I still haven't seen another one other than at a meet.

Why do people think a lot about the car they chose to own? Well, if you own one, it means that car won the comparison in your opinion with what was out there at the time.

Some may cite rarity or scarcity, but that has to do with the fact that Mustangs are targeted to sell a lot more in the states, so they will be less scarce, their looks will probably age faster, they will probably show up in all parts of town.

But I personally think a lot of the Z because it's fun, pretty, and inexpensive. Who cares if it's rare or exotic? It's not. It's just a joy to drive, and I'm pretty sure that Mustang owners feel the same about their cars.

Here are some tips I put together so I don't fall into traps during my next car purchase. Hope this is helpful for everyone:

Car Buying: Things to remember when purchasing

Drive the exact car you want. If a dealer doesn’t have the exact car, find one that does.
Ask for a take home test drive (keep the car for an evening). If they don’t allow it, settle for nothing less than a no-salesperson test drive. They can be distracting.
Don’t be bullied or pressured.
DO NOT SHARE DESIRED MONTHLY PAYMENTS or TRADE IN VALUES. Say you’re only looking to discuss purchase price and you want to hear what their trade value is.
The dealing isn’t over when you’re done with the sales person. Finance managers will push extended warranties, paint protection, etc. Also, carefully evaluate their rates. They will add a percentage point to the bank rate or use rates to steer you into other additional charges to make extra money.
Reply to bullying lines with mirrored answers. “This offer ends at the end of the month” gets “My purchase offer ends tonight.” “I have to put food on the table” -> “I have to keep food on the table.” “I have to check with my manager” -> “I have to check with my spouse”. “We’re already losing a lot of money on this deal” -> “I’m already losing a HELL of a lot of money on this deal.” “I have another offer, this car is in high demand” -> “They have this car down the street or I’ll just order one from someone else.”

Sshhhhh.......:icon17:

lol I was at a Nissan dealership, and a salesperson pointed across the sales floor to a couple who had just walked in. He said to me, "They're here to look at the same car you are." I responded with, "Well then, sell it to them. I'm sure Nissan will make more Z's and I'll keep making money."

Well if you say "no" to one of the salesmen at any of the Lou Fusz dealerships you don't want to know what happens next.

I looked into it.. the Ford dealership wouldn't give me enough on trade in.

I'm kinda glad... I don't' think I'd like owning another Mustang.

The 5.0 Stangs doesn't handle that bad at all, the 2 that I test drove one auto other manual both took curves and corners quite well.

It sounds like for made a pretty sick car. I havnt done much research on the matter tho...

I love my car. I bought it over the new camaro, sti's, g37s, the evo. Non of those cars really wowed me. the 370z is just all around a sick car. between handling, speed, comfort (for a sports car), looks, everything. Its not like sitting in the new camaro where all u have to look at inside the car is the gauge cluster. Most cars now have boring interiors and thats where u spend most of your time. The Z has buttons and gauges and stuff everywhere. To me i wouldnt trade my car in.

After i pay it off, i should be making more money and im gona try and buy an Audi S5. Such a sick carrrrrr. Havnt sat in one yet but you never know whats going to come out in the next year.

What Mustang did you have before?

Z-WHIZ 02-23-2011 03:06 PM

For those that say the new Mustang can't handle, In the C&D lightening lap the Mustang
obliterated the EVO, Sti, and others around the track. Plus 4.3 0-60 and 12.8 1/4 mile times out of the box. This thing is a beast.

I'm having the same thing. Most dealers are offering like $25k for the Z. With touring + nav, and under 6k, that's just ridiculous.

m4a1mustang 02-23-2011 03:26 PM

Seems like CarMax might very well be the place to sell to, then.

shadoquad 02-23-2011 03:29 PM

Tough time to sell, though. Most places won't offer a lot right now, as it's a sports car and it's winter. That will be a justification for a low-ball offer. Believe me.

But then if you want to trade/sell in summer, the price of the car you want to buy inflates, assuming it's also a performance car. Ideally, sell in Summer, buy in November, but that doesn't fit many people's habits.

CarMax is likely to give you a good deal, though, because they can move the cars a lot easier than a new-car dealership can. It's cheaper for them to keep a car in inventory as well.

CarMax is exactly the place that gave us the "sports car cold weather" rap.

Yea, the MOST I've had a dealership offer for trade in is 23.5k.

Base + sport 18k miles.

Not bad I guess but he wasn't really coming down on anything.

I owned an older GT about 10 years ago.

I know the new ones are very nice, but I haven't owned an American car since then... I just don't know what I'd do with it.

Wow! That is a huge rip off. I bought mine for the same price the previous owner traded it in for. It's an 09 touring 7AT with 15k miles and I bought It certified used for $26k. You should be getting a lot more for yours. You could try selling it yourself it try CarMax.

shadoquad 02-23-2011 03:45 PM

I suggest using CarMax as the first stop. Their offers are good for 7 days or so many miles. Other dealers say they'll beat or match a CarMax appraisal. I'd take the appraisal with me, negotiate the deal for a set price at other dealers, and get the best deal possible. It'll take a lot of driving, but it can be done.
