but more to the point. EVO is not a good family car. yes it has 4 doors and a back seat, but you're kid isn't gonna be falling asleep too easily when you go for a drive. you're ognna take a huge hit switching from one new car to another. Instead of spending 10k on depreciation, spend 10-15k on a used mid-full size sedan. even an altima should be fine. you can get a 2.5s altima sedan from 2007 for probably like 14-15k depending on mileage/condition. and you're not looking for a picture perfect car. its transportation. if it has a scuff or two it doesnt matter. |

you have to compromise somehow :p |
jeff- yah, ive be kinda worried until the infant's neck is supported and also the shaking from the vibrations from stiff sus on the Evo...can pose a serious problem in the baby's brain.
i read a report from japan where the parents accidentally killed their baby from their suv with stiff suspension. trauma to the brain. |

The Evo X isn't that stiff at all. I test drove both when I originally bought the Z and unless your roads are made out of cobblestone and potholes I seriously doubt you would notice a difference. I'm really not sure why there is so much hate for the X here. :p |

You gotta ask yourself, would you get a Lancer ES as a family car? Because an EVO isn't any better of a family car than that. I dont think anyone would go buy a lancer as a family car, so why buy an EVO? Its turbo doesn't make it any better for toting around child seats. |
Tbh, if I was buying a family car I'd go for a Hyundai Sonata.
But we all know what kind of "family car" the OP wants. :p |

LOL this thread is starting to get good. took 4 pages to get there but i am starting to hold this one to high standards. keep going Jeff I am loving it.
BTW EVO sucks lol |
Given that oil is over $100 a barrel again, I'm for the "keep the Z get a cheap reliable DD" option. Get a used Honda, Mazda, Toyota, etc. for your DD/kid related travels. You'll be saving on gas vs. getting an EVO (a Civic or Mazda 3 would get you DOUBLE the gas mileage of an EVO).

Thanks for the advice so far guys. And just to clarify, the fact that we are about to start a family isn't the only reason for me thinking about this. The EVO would seem to be at least semi-usable during the winter, whereas the Z is almost impossible to get around in.
