MPG question

Just took a round trip cruise of about 400 miles it was a blast!!
So anyway computer said i averaged 26 mpg. set the cruise at about 70.

just wondering if the trip read outs are pretty accurate on these cars
that seemed pretty good to me

I personally don't trust those to be very accurate. Your best option is to set the trip meter to 0 when you fill up...then when you fill up next time divide the number of miles on the trip meter by the number of gallons you put in. That's about as accurate as you will get. I think if you're doing an almost all highway trip you may be able to squeeze out 28-29 if your lucky.

It's always been pretty accurate for me. At most it's been .1 off. I always reset my trip meter when I fill up, then divide the number of miles by the number of gallons I fill up. When I set cruise control at 7xmph, I get about 27-28 mpg.

Calculate by hand and check.

When I compared it via the fill up method it was fairly close, the car read just a little high, 0.5 mpg or so.

thanks for the info,I'll try that on my next fill up

its been fairly accurate for the first few tanks that i calculated. since then ive just taken it for what it is. i dont care for the MPG to be honest...ive found that even if i smash on it and get 18mpg combined, driving like a grandpa and getting 20-22mpg combined is a difference of a few bucks and NO FUN!

I did try hypermiling my Z staying around 60 mph and was seeing 34mpg on a normal section of highway but most of the time, I get around 21mpg with mixed city and highway driving and seems pretty accurate.

In a mixture of mostly highway with some street driving around LA county, I average 20 mpg. I got a lead foot too...

I would have thought the Z would have gotten better mileage given the small engine and low CD.

I get 15MPG. All city driving with a non aggressive driving style. Is something wrong with my car? Only mod is a catback.

i do both city and street driving. Average about 19.5

Got ya. I rarely drop under 25 unless I am trying too or am doing some serious city driving. Even then I can stay at 22/23 in the city.
