I have subscribed to this forum at 2009, when I was looking for more information about the Z, which would replace my wife's Eclipse GT. At that time, I was about to receive my Evo X GSR. I really love the Z. The day we purchased the Eclipse, we have test-driven a Z. My wife have chosen the GT, due to cargo and rear seats. This reason proved right these (almost) 3 years. Although having 6 other cars (from d.d sedans, to 730hp DSM), we find ourselves needing cargo space and the rear seats a lot of times. We have 2 children.

Even so, we are constantly attracted by the Z and sometimes we thought on trading it for a Z, specially after the 370Z got released.

It looks there are some misconceptions regarding the Evo X, which is totally normal for non-Evo guys:

- The MR version has the automated transmission. It is fully modded with bolt-ons and even upgraded turbos. You might get a 320-330whp MR with just simple bolt-ons. There are 500awhp MRs over there, but you will waste more money, since the transmission (as stock) is not able to handle a ton of torque;
- The GSR version has the manual transmission. It is fully modded. There are 816whp GSR over there. The clutch sucks, if you plan to launch often;
- The new Evo is slightly slower on long straights, compared to the IX. But it is better or, at least, equal, on slalom and skidpad. On road racing, there are mixed results for the stock. But due to its higher rigidity and equilibrium, the Evo X shines in its capability as a base for modded time-attack warriors. In this regards, since 2009, the Evo X have been beating older Evos in almost all Time-Attack events. But remember: we are talking about modded cars.

Stock x Stock, I am almost sure the 370Z beats the Evo X on straights. As stock, Evo X is not that fast, but with just a reflashing ($179, for the Tactrix cable), I am sure it will beat a stock Z. My friend has an Evo X and a 370Z. Before reflashing, the Z was faster. But not after it. Anyway, its not that big difference and for street use, we all know power-weight is not the only variable.

If he is going to stay with a stock car, or just simple bolt-ons, the maintenance cost is quite low for the X. But I guess this is the same with the Z.

Performance wise, both are quite similar as stock.

The difference start at their d.d. suitability.

If the guy is in school, he might need to carry friends, and maybe the cargo would be nice for baggage. But thats his decision.

Best regards,
Ziki
