I think the 09 owners should check this out before it happens.
My whole day was ruined waiting for the tow company that was 1 hour late. ETA was 50 minutes...

The only problem is there is no real warning to know when it will fail. Makes me worried at times to take my car out for a drive too far.

It really suck if you happen to stall it in traffic and it wouldn't crank. Unlike being in a parking lot.

Agreed. There is absolutely no warning or indication. It works fine and then doesn't work at all, and then the car just sits there, completely disabled.

And that's the biggest issue for me. Like you said, I don't want to take the car on a trip, don't want to kill it late at night at a service station or a store. It basically feels like a crap-shoot each time I turn it off. I should keep some dice in the center console.

If your Z is running you will never run into this problem. :driving:
I went to the gas station so I was lucky at least.
I'm more annoyed that I bought a brand new car and it's had 2 major problems.... :shakes head:

What I meant was if you stalled such as pop the clutch and it shut off and didn't restart.

The problem only happens on a full cycle. If you stall the car is still in the ON mode so you shouldn't experience the problem.

SPOHN 01-27-2011 06:51 PM

Oh, ok. That's a plus.

Glad not many people are going through this...

It is true the problem will only disable the vehicle after a full ignition cycle, but according to the owners manual the problem can occur even while the car is running. According to Nissan if the "Intelligent Key Warning Light" comes on while the car is running you should drive it to the dealership without cutting it off.

I dropped my girlfriend off last night and i walked her to the door, then came back to my car but it doesnt start... I thought the battery in my key fob had died so I inserted the key fob into the the area where you put it when it dies, sorry i dont know the actual term only thing i can think of is fobgina, which i heard from this site haha. anyways that doesnt work so i dont know whats going on. confused i try it over and over again leaving the car unlocking it getting back it, nothing. I know its not the car battery or the key fob anymore because im able to lock and unlock the doors. Then a light comes on my dash, a key symbol and i look it up in the owners manual. It says that something is wrong with the key reading system and that i will not be able to start the car... and to get it towed and repaired immediately.

The tow guy just dropped it off at the dealership. The whole process was a pain in the a** because they werent able to tow it due to my exhaust, but i wont get into that. and i have to call the dealership in the morning... I am absolutely furious and wondering what is wrong with my z :shakes head:

LOL "Fobgina" - that's the first time I've heard that one:icon17:

Cleto 01-28-2011 07:51 PM

I am curious as to where is the fobgina located in the 370z, just in case this happens to me?

cptspeed 01-28-2011 07:55 PM

to the left of the steering wheel on the dash

Hi guys, virgin post here.

Am intending to purchase a 09 370z MT.. Is this issue only confined to the 09 models or are the 2010 and 2011 having the same issues?

Anyone can confirm if the part that is changed is of a different part or is it still the same bound-to-fail part?

Thanks (:
