Now that would suck if thats what would fix it.

zrider 01-07-2011 09:18 AM

just heard from the dealer... they said they dont know whats wrong with the vehicle and that this is the first time they've encountered this kind of problem.. and their still looking for a loaner vehicle for me :confused:

90% of the time it is the steering lock assembly that is stuck on. Hopefully they get wise and test that out before doing stupid things with the ECU and BCM.

I hope the rest of you don't have this problem, but the MANUAL clearly states that YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO START your car. Thank goodness I was at a gas station when it happened.

@zrider

update on the problem, interested in finding out the root cause..

zrider 01-24-2011 01:41 PM

it was the steering wheel lock, just like the other members stated, right on the dot. Got it fixed !!

Red__Zed 01-24-2011 03:29 PM

kind of a long story so ill try to make it short, i just got home, 5:38 AM .

I dropped my girlfriend off last night and i walked her to the door, then came back to my car but it doesnt start... I thought the battery in my key fob had died so I inserted the key fob into the the area where you put it when it dies, sorry i dont know the actual term only thing i can think of is fobgina, which i heard from this site haha. anyways that doesnt work so i dont know whats going on. confused i try it over and over again leaving the car unlocking it getting back it, nothing. I know its not the car battery or the key fob anymore because im able to lock and unlock the doors. Then a light comes on my dash, a key symbol and i look it up in the owners manual. It says that something is wrong with the key reading system and that i will not be able to start the car... and to get it towed and repaired immediately.

The tow guy just dropped it off at the dealership. The whole process was a pain in the a** because they werent able to tow it due to my exhaust, but i wont get into that. and i have to call the dealership in the morning... I am absolutely furious and wondering what is wrong with my z :shakes head:

Oh the old "my car died can I spend the night with you?" trick..:icon18: Dont think your fooling us for one moment...

Might be a long shot. But do they pay to have it towed to the dealer?

tjlazer 01-25-2011 11:28 AM

yes since it's a warantee issue. always

kenchan 01-25-2011 11:36 AM

hummm... is it just the lock to be replaced? is it easy to replace this steering lock?

i'd keep one in the car just in case if it's easy to replace with basic tools. i have some tools all the time in my cars (breaker bar, basic wrench sizes, basic sockets, screw drivers, can opener, skillet, ladle, etc. ;) )
