no, tony, i think you actually got off easier than this new wreck.
i'm sorry, but i'm going to hedge towards 'totaled' on this one. there's a very high chance of either engine or frame damage, and that's going to be a monster to try and fix. and it's def. something i wouldn't do out of pocket, that's for sure. if a quick eyeball appraisal is 16.5k, when they get all the nuts and bolts totaled up, it's going to be easily 24-27k before it's even roadworthy again. and i completely agree that once in a wreck, a car is never the same. sorry to hear about the car, but i for one am glad you're alright. and Snakes? that was NEVER part of this discussion. really.
