  1. I'm glad you found the help on this site you were looking for.
  2. You should stick around, even if you don't end up with another Z.
  3. It may not seem like it, but trust me, life goes on, you will learn from this experience, and it will make you stronger. Trust me, you're fortunate to not have died in a wreck.

Hey, it will pass. I know we all love our cars but in the end, it's just a car.

I'm not sure of your age but when I was 17 I crashed the same car twice. The second one finished the job. Most of us have been where you are now.
Get some sleep. It may not hurt so bad tomorrow.

Give it a bit of time. If you find a good body shop, you'll see that our Zs are incredibly modular. All of that front end can be unbolted and replaced.

For example:

Funny thing is that I am 17 now and I drive a car most people dream of even test driving. I mean really I F-ed up real bad in this accident. Cant be a bigger screwup than me.. really..

We'd need a look under the hood. I can confirm that the engine still runs and the ignition turns on after an airbag deployment. However, don't know if it will fully start once turned completely off.

No, dude. Accidents happen. Trust me, you're not the only person who's wrecked a nice car. May not seem like it right now, but it will pass with time. And you'll have other nice cars.

Dam. I guess then this car is totaled. I think i did completely turn off the car after the wreck though. Cant remember my head was moving faster than a Supra with 1200+ whp. The cop tried to turn on the car and was like "what do i do with the key (fob)"
I was like: its push to start
Cop: So...
Me: hold your foot on the brake and press the ignition button
Cop: presses the radio button
Me: NO the button over there
Cop: ok
Me: did you press it?
Cop: yea
Me: it wont turn on.. is your fott holding down the break
Cop: yea. all the way.
Me: guess it wont turn on..

Cops are idiots.. this guy pushed the radio power button

m4a1mustang 12-22-2010 09:19 PM

Own the car long enough and you'll do it too.

Turn the radio off thinking you turned the car off... release the clutch. SURPRISE.

PapoZalsa 12-22-2010 09:26 PM

If is 2009 and the airbags deployed the insurance might totaled the car. That is like everyone has said, about $20 to $24K on repairs plus a rental cars for at least a month. With the percentage the most of the insurance calculate the cost and lost they will not pay that amount if is a 09 Base w/Sport Pkg.

funny u mentioned that, i brought my truck into a shop today to get a bung welded in my midpipe for the wideband. The first guy kept setting my alarm off, then couldnt figure out why it wouldnt start when he turns the key. The second guy that brought the truck back out, couldnt get it going either. I was like "turn the key, the press the start button" both of them asked "wheres the start button" i replied "the big red button that has a viper on it"

Remember that you always get the short end of the stick. So if you were selling, your car would be worth $26k. But...if they are appraising value and deciding if it's totaled, they'll call it $31k. Figure you need about $25k in damage to total a $30k car.

im just hoping for the best..they said it would depend on the engine if it starts and runs ok since since all the oil came out. i was hoping something would be wrong but there isnt. he came up with 16.5k just what he saw and the bodyshop said that there would be more. So they have to add the supplemental cost, labor, and rental fee. Adjuster said it was borderline so he told the shop not to work on it until claims dept. comes back with a verdict. fingers crossed...really dont want a vehicle with a carfax:shakes head:

jamesleerpc 12-22-2010 10:05 PM

I just hope the engine wasnt damaged. If the engine is good im all in to repair this bad boy and make it mine once more. But i would never look at her the same. Sort of like a woman. You catch her cheatin and she is sorry and comes back. You love her still but you can never forget that she cheated on you.

kgreen 12-22-2010 10:07 PM

and plan to make yours for awhile because if you go to trade it in u aint gunna get sh!t! honestly if i were u i would hope for a total loss...get ur check and get another one...thats just me

Thing is. Do you think my parents would buy me another 370z after this bullsh!t happened. Hell no. I F-in love this car. Thats why even though we will probably get nothing for it. I want the car? Like i would want it to get totaled for financial purposes. But for personal choice i would rather it get fixed and i get to use it again.

kgreen 12-22-2010 10:17 PM

well if the accident truely wasnt your fault and they can get their money back i wouldnt see why not. to each of their own though good luck

Snakes709 12-22-2010 10:23 PM

No disrespect, but this is why i dont agree with parents buying their teenage kids a sports car. Either get them something like a honda civic or a smart car. Parents get their kids a nice car, they crash it and then have no way to fix it or get out of the mess they are in. I bought my first car which was a 2005 Cobalt LS. Had it for 3 weeks, due to my gf grabbing the wheel, thinking i fell asleep i rolled the car off the highway. Insurence company paid the car off. 6 months later i bought a 07 Cobalt SS Supercharged, did alot of mods. Got bored of the car, bought the 370z. Realised it wasnt what i needed, now i got my truck. 4 vehicals i have owned. I was 21 when i bought the Cobalt LS and im 24 now. And thats not even my 08 ZX6R i bought 2 years ago.

well im just going to leave it at that, since the last thread got locked, anyways, back on topic. Going back to my suggestion of just ordering the parts and doing it yourself. If you got the cash, check out some junk yards for a 370z and see if u can find the parts you need.

SmoothZ 12-22-2010 10:31 PM

What's the point of this thread? Why would anyone ask a bunch of strangers online about the cost of fixing a car? Are we insurance claim adjusters? Really? REALLY?

2theextreme 12-22-2010 10:52 PM

Here's my yellow 370z after my accident back in 2009:

http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/n...ccident017.jpg

Allstate agent went to look at it......final result/decision? Totalled. And mine didn't look as bad as yours.

EDIT: I take that back....I just enlarged the photo.....it looks pretty similar actually.

phelan 12-23-2010 12:17 AM

no, tony, i think you actually got off easier than this new wreck.

i'm sorry, but i'm going to hedge towards 'totaled' on this one. there's a very high chance of either engine or frame damage, and that's going to be a monster to try and fix. and it's def. something i wouldn't do out of pocket, that's for sure. if a quick eyeball appraisal is 16.5k, when they get all the nuts and bolts totaled up, it's going to be easily 24-27k before it's even roadworthy again. and i completely agree that once in a wreck, a car is never the same.

sorry to hear about the car, but i for one am glad you're alright.

and Snakes? that was NEVER part of this discussion. really.

OP is such a spoiled scumbag.

He fly's into oncoming traffic and hits some innocent lady who's driving on HER side of the road and because he's driving a decent car has the audacity to get all pissed off that she's complaining of chest problems. Yeah? Well maybe she does have chest problems because some 17 year old ******* idiot just hit her head on in a red sports car.

Grow the **** up OP. I'm glad your not driving around in this car anymore. Gives the rest of us a bad image.

Man your lucky you didn't kill her... your life would be over dude. The last thing you would worry about would be if GAP coverage will pay off your loan (or parents loan).

Here is some advice. Buy a mini-van

For real. I mean lets all go crash into someone, it being our own fault, then bitch about them and worry about our own car rather than not be locked up in jail and living with the fact we killed someone. hahah Man and kids wonder why people hate them.

that's what I was going to say too. im all down for a teen driving a nice car(because i will spoil my own kids), but when they have the arrogance of speaking to that degree of an elderly woman... its crossing the line.

GL to the OP, hope your parents buy you a used 1996 civic.

You're 17 and your parents bought you a fully loaded touring, nav., 7-speed auto? How long have you been driving this?!

About your story... can you help clarify? Because something really isn't adding up. I'm very sorry for your loss but just help me with this one.

So how I read it was you were trying to get in the left lane to make a left turn but you didn't see the man in the lane already and he speeds up so you swerve to avoid hitting him.... so you cut backwards and over correct, making you hit this poor little old lady who was going the opposite way?

Or were you trying to turn left and the guy tried to fly around you and you tried to "swerve" out of his way but ended up misjudging the distance and she slams into you?

So you caused this accident and this poor little old lady's lip is bleeding and can't breathe because of YOU and yet you still have the arrogance to claim she was full of BS?

Look, I tried to take this with a grain of salt but this just has stupid and disrespectful kid all over it.

I am sincerely sorry you wrecked your car though, it looked very nice. I also drive a solid red and understand your love with the car but sometimes you gotta sit back and be thankful that 1. You are alive, 2. The old lady is alive, and 3. That your parents are still alive, have not killed you, and were cool enough to give you a Z. I hope you learn from this and that your future cars will be manuals. :ugh2:
