370Z Automatic wont start when pushing the ignition button
Hi,
I had just parked my car (09 370Z Auto Touring), and realized I want to move to a different spot. With key still in my pocket, I push the ignition button, but NOTHING happens. The car wont start at all. One thing I noticed that on my way to work, the key light (the yellow light) was lit up all the time, while on my way back, it was gone...I thought it was some malfunction that got fixed.. Any ideas, anyone faced this problem ever before? Please help. Thank you. |
Did you try to put the key in the hole and see if it would start?
|
Also making sure the car is all the way in park.
|
And foot is on the brake. Since for some ridiculous reason, you have to have your foot on the brake even if it's in park
|
I'm gonna have to go with dead battery in the fob. Plug it into the fobgina.

Yes, I made sure the brake was pressed as much as possible. I have tried both keys and neither of them work all of a sudden...so im guessing, the battery aint a problem and the car is all the way in park as well.....
i was reading in this forum and someone suggested steering column lock is to be replaced in such cases....?? Ya, I tried to put the intelligent key in the key hole on the left but still the car did not start...It is still under warranty...I would hate to see the towers do any damage to my car, if it comes down to that... |
Does it at least try to start but it just doesn't?
If that's the problem you have low engine oil. Maybe that's why your light showed up. If so, you damaged your engine big time! |

No. It doesnt even try to do anything. Not even the first time when I tried. No sound at all from nowhere. Not even bad car battery (cant hear any clicking sounds).
|
your **** probably just fell out of sync with your car. take that little metal tag that came with your keys, go to the dealer, and tell them whats up. most likely they will reprogram your fobs to the code in your car and when you get back i bet you 4 paychecks it turns back on

Are you getting a yellow "KEY" sign that you normally do not see on the instrumental panel?
If so, the issue is with the steering wheel lock sensor. Few Nissan car models with smart key have this problem. Car will have to be towed and they will have to replace this sensor. |
BTW it should be covered under warranty.
Have your Nissan dealer tow the car. |
key fob
ive been having this exact same problem with my car. i was even at a stop sign completely stopped an the cars traction AND vdc light was on.
|
Sounds like a dealer visit.
|
i've had this problem, twice. One time is was a computer chip that was the cause, and the second time it was a steering column lock that needed to be replaced. I called my dealer, and out right told them, the next time i'm able to start the car i'm bringing it in, cant make an appointment if it wont start as needed. and they were instantly able to replicate the problem, and took about a day to get the parts in to fix.
|
Yeah, sounds like the steering lock issue in this case. If the computer can't activate the steering lock solenoid to retract it then it won't let you start the car. It seems to be a somewhat common problem across the entire Nissan line.
|
This happened to me at a very unfortunate time. It sucks.
I wonder if they are going to have a recall on 370s, because other Nissan models have already been recalled. |

I have it at the dealer...Baker Nissan South. I will post back once they figure out what the hell is wrong...I am hoping not to get charged
|
Ok, so I gave it to them on Monday and everyday they keep extending a day. Now they say that they have replaced the BCM unit (the BCM unit was not responding for some reason so they had to order it from long beach CA) and now they have to replace the steering wheel lock (they say that the lock is also damaged because of some short circuit). The steering wheel lock is on order so now because of Christmas, they will not be able to give it back to me till coming Tue....
Should I be worried about anything? The car is at Nissan authorized dealer but I was really not expecting this long delay in getting it over with. Should I be going and checking the car physically to see any damages? I am just surprised their diagnostic is so sequential... |

Yeah, electronics can be difficult if all they have is a test script.
Hope they gave you a loaner though! |
EXACT same thing happened to me! I was beyond PISSED. It had to be towed and they kept my car 2 days. When they called and said I could come pick it up, I did just that and stopped at a Ford dealership and picked up a 5.0. I had enough with Nissan and said NO MORE!

Well, they called and seems like its gonna take them one week. What a shame. They gave me a lame Hyundai for a loaner.
|
Nissan gave you a Hyudai for a loaner.
Beyond lame. |
your car is in good hands over at Baker, FYI the first TT 370 and i believe the first SC 370 in Texas were installed and worked on at Baker. They are our lucky tuner friendly dealer in Houston. You sould come out to the local Z meets sometime, Brad Baker comes out with his Z from time to time, very nice guy with a very sick car.
|
Oh I'm a big fan of Baker North..I got all the work on my car done there, buy Baker South seems a bit of a disappointment..I'd be coming to the next meet..
Bennytheblade, I'm not even driving the Hyundai they gave me..my civic has a lot more options than their car... Will post with an update when I get mine back. 370z sports touring with Nav // KW suspension // Camber kit // Venaci wheels |
