Kids n 370s

Nothing ticks me off more than kids of rich parents, 17 years old, getting brand new cars. I'm 26 and after 6 years at a post secondary institution I bought myself a Z as a grad present to MYSELF because I am graduating without any loans!

Maybe its just darwin's modern way of doing his thing, maybe I am just bitter.

ClemsonWill 12-15-2010 02:34 PM

I don't care how much money you have. I believe this is a huge mistake by parents. The likelihood a high school student has a major wreck is pretty high. I truely believe parents are putting their child at further risk for serious injury. Get them a nice car but it doesn't have to be a 300+ hp sports car.

For example: I had a friend in high school. His dad owned a Dodge dealership. So at 16 his dad bought him a brand new Viper GTS. Two weeks later my friend wrapped it around a telephone pole barely surviving. His dad learned his lesson real quick. Bought him a hummer H1 wagon a few weeks later. lol

Sorry for those of you that are in your teens but it's the truth.

nothing ticks me more than USPS's lousy service in the socal area!

while i agree...there are cases where just because someone is young, doesnt mean they didnt buy it themselves. apparently people look at me and think this all the time (doesnt help being asian and young looking, i still get carded for nearly everything). the glares i get from people when i get out of the car are hilarious. i just glare back and them and smile :hello:

however, i do see your point. i remember my highschool's parking lot, filled with bmw's and merc's, while i drove the bucket toyota :p

This would be my main point to argue as well... Even though every kid from 17-20 thinks they are a good driver, the truth to it is that the majority are not...

onzedge 12-15-2010 03:30 PM

Mean people suck. It also drives me nuts when my wife lets the dogs sleep on my side of the bed when I am travelling.

Dreezy562 12-15-2010 03:30 PM

i tend to worry less about other people and concentrate on my own life

I don't give 2 sh!ts what other people do with their money, it's theirs to spend how they wish, well at least the part the government doesn't take.

You would if it was your kid in the passenger seat. Hulk Hogan's son street racing his supra. :owned:

I know I'm getting a little too invested in this thread. Having personal experience with it definitely changes your tone.

Why don't people worry about their own lives rather than complain about what other people do with their own money?

Because people prefer to critique others instead of themselves.

LuckyJinx 12-15-2010 04:08 PM

So what I get glares and shakes from older people. I'm paying for it; they're not. If you're mature enough and well respected enough to drive one, by all means please do. I work everyday except sundays. Dad taught me to work hard and play hard. I agree that some kids shouldn't be driving these cars, but either way its going to happen. We're not all like that.

woo, splended. im a car enthusiastical.

sonic370 12-15-2010 07:44 PM

some of these remarks are kind of harsh imo.......

it's not the age it's how you act. as long as they show respect to the car
and other drivers i could care less....

i'm showing my age but i had a 69 GTO in high school. and everyone on this board knows back then the driver was the vdc.... i made it through but i had a healthly respect for the car..

Nitrouz 12-15-2010 07:44 PM

lol there's an 18 year old kid here that owns a Reventon, an SLR, a Scud, and a Bentley Continental GT. Here as an international student for 18 months mind you.

Why dont you worry about your own life rather than what people vent about on an internet thread?

its almost philosophical... quick! someone call Socratese!

JK ;)

fairladyZ34 12-15-2010 07:53 PM

i got my Z at 18, took great care of it, always safe and it treated me well. I believe it also saved my life. After about 14months of owning it i got into an accident and the car got totaled. All my airbags deployed and i walked away unharmed. Had i been in my honda which i just found out earlier last week that the SRS light came on i may not have been so lucky.

LOL

If people have the money, go for it. If you're parents can't/won't/wouldn't buy you a nice car. Tell someone who cares?

BrianMSmith 12-15-2010 08:04 PM

You are a kid! When I was 26 I sure as hell could not afford a $40k car, and I was fresh out of a top engineering school. That was 15 years ago.

sounds like you got the shaft there...to graduate from a top engineering school 15 years ago put you right at the beginning of the dot com boom. which means you could've easily been making 6 figures within a year or two of moving around (jobs were like candy back then).

kenchan 12-15-2010 08:24 PM

i can use some cheeze fries right around now...

shaun66 12-15-2010 08:24 PM

I think it has to do more with the person rather than age, but I may be a bit biased since I'm 16 LOL.

+1, my X gf is an engineer, and things are tough right now in that field. 15 years ago was the bomb.

At age 26, a 40K car is not hard at all to afford provided you aren't supporting kids, etc. and you got a good job.

PapoZalsa 12-15-2010 09:05 PM

This thread is not what people do with the money, this thread is about kids that got a car from their rich parents and will never have appreciation for a car. Because they never work to get one.

So get in topic for some of you guys!
