US inflation 1995 $40,000 to 2010 would be $57,891.39 so yeh you are right.

and as anyone else, I am entitled to my opinion. He felt like alienating me as a "kid" without knowledge my financial situation, so my criticism of him is just as valid as his of me.

Sure, I don't know what he has as a daily driver or what is sitting in his garage, do you? But if he wants to lecture me on how fortunate I am to be a 26 year old "kid" with a 370, while graduating with a less prestigious education than his, I will entertain his thought with deconstructive criticisms.

Frankly, I worked hard, so I am not lucky for squat, I earned it, and that was why I reacted in my reply to him. I am surprised this post has conjured up such a stir, and apologize if anyone is sensitive to my harsh reply.

I just hate the stupid kids that wanna race me in their non sports cars with fart cans....... i don't think it would matter if they were in a viper or a yaris, they are going to act stupid in what ever they drive. There are too many stupid ppl in this world and they procreate much faster..... Some one put a stop to this. :nutswinger:

Interesting this reminds me of couple threads opened by very young members totaling their z's.

I think it really just depends on the kid. My first car that my mom got for free from a friend was a 1980 Toyota Corola (5 spd). I didn't like this car one bit and shortly after getting my license I started driving my dad's 1978 280z which was my primary car for several years.

I am currently 25. My dad let me drive his 2004 350Z quite often if he wasn't going to be using it (Mainly on weekends) when I was 19-20 and I never did anything crazy with it. I generally stopped really driving it once I got my 2006 Subaru impreza non-turbo (lease).

Funny enough I totaled the impreza when it had less than 400 miles on it but it wasn't because of the way I was driving it but just got in an unlucky situation (gravel or something on the road in a mountain pass). There were two cars in front of me and due to that I was breaking in the entrance of a turn (which shifter the weight to the front -- bad) and the rear end went out on me. I have never had that happen on the second impreza I got a couple months later to replace the first one so something on the road must have made me lost traction. I compensated like a 2wd car which made me go off the edge (rolling down the hill) totalling the car.

Luckily I was near the base of the road so I wasn't that far up and didn't fall that much (30-40 ft).

A picture of the subaru after I totaled it:

I wanted to get a 350z at the time but the reason I got the subaru was I was only working part time and going to school and that was all I could afford. I got a full time job shortly after that when I was 21 and finally could actually afford to get a 350z if I wanted to.

I figured I would go ahead and wait for my lease to be over before I went with a 350/370z due to how much they wanted to charge me for getting out of it (4 year lease). Sadly enough the engine died on me 1 week b4 my lease so I ended up just buying the subaru (cash) and I still need to sell it. Guess its good I kept on to it as my dad's 350z just had engine failure and he has been using my subaru until his 350z gets fixed =)

Anyway a long story but I think I am pretty responsible. I have a pretty nice car (IMHO) and a house at the age of 25. I think it was probably good I waited a bit on the 370 as it allowed me to have a lot of money saved up to get my house. I think it really depends on the person and some 18-19 year olds are probably responsible enough to have a 370z, I know I would have been.

That being said I think the said person should be driving a car with no more than 200 hp for atleast 2 years before going with a high powered sports car. Also I think they should learn on a manual as IMHO people who start and drive a manual everyday typically pay a bit more attention when they are driving than those with automatic (just talking out of my *** here).

I think it's personal. I dated a girl when I was 17 (she was 16), and she behaved more maturely in public/dealt with stuff better at 16 than most of the girls I have talked to now that I am out of college. That's just an example un-related to cars, of course (although she was personally restoring a 71' Mach 1 while we dated), but it's personal, maturity and all

I really don't understand why people care so much about what other parents buy their kids?

Live your own life, everyone has to live with their own decisions and being spoiled is all relative anyways. Technically having shelter, food, and water is considered spoiled compared to much of the world.

Go have your own kid and don't give them a 370z and that will make you feel good inside.

Just jealousy.
