i for one enjoy the floor mounted accelerator

I for one like it; it makes heel/toe shifting easier - I don't have to twist my leg as much. Mebbe I'm cheating? :p |
Most German cars from the 70's[except Opel] is using this type of pedal.....but some Japanese model is following it,maybe for more comfort.?
|
hate to revive an old thread, but i too do agree! Don't like it at all. Dont get the same feeling when downshifting and heal toeing :/

Oh and yes my Cayman has it and maybe thats why I don't notice it in either car. |
Isn't heel-toe kind of redundant with sync-rev?

i use the side of my foot to blip throttle on organ pedals. i learned that over 10yrs ago when i had my MINI cause that was my first car with the floor pivoting gas pedal. just takes practice. hell, even on traditional pedal setups i use the side of my foot since i dont need the full braking power on street. |
Oh...my bad, duh.

I wonder what the reasoning behind where they put the pivot point is. I was doing a little bit of googling and didn't find much but it does appear that fly by wire accelerators tend to typically have the pivot point at the bottom because that is where the electronics are that send the engine the data. I don't see why that couldn't be moved in a design but it also appears that higher end car manufacturers are trending to the pivot point at the bottom as well. There must be some reason this performs better otherwise why would they go there?

and now I find one that has the electronics at the top

Ah right. I forgot about recent history with Toyota and stuck gas pedals. Move the pivot point to the bottom and you shouldn't be able to have a floor mat cause any stuck pedals.
I was hoping for a more fun reason than lawyers. |
Feels better than the other kinds, IMO.
