Hi. My iPhone 3G doesn't work perfectly with the Nav/Bose system.

For example, I can't get the Nav to retrieve the phone book from my iPhone. So, on a saturday at 2 am I'm going home with my buddy and my phone rings, automatically mutes the stereo, the nav reads out #s like 310-blah-blah-blah. I pick up, hear frantic crying.... "I'm downtown at this bar and I'm drunk and there's a fight going on in the middle of the street and, blah, blah, blah." I answer, "baby, you said you were staying in tonight. No, I'm not coming to get you. Just take a cab to my house and I'll pay for it." I get home and check my phone to realize it was an ex-girl friend who had called.... and was on her way over.... while the current gf was at home, asleep in my bed.

Oops. The system doesn't work perfectly. (true story)

I have the iPhone 3G and the Touring Sport with Nav. The BT connection works fine. You need to understand that currently, the 3G only supports the headset profile so phonebook transfer is not supported by the iPhone.

One cool thing about the pair. I was on the phone outside of the car, and when I got it, and turned the car on, there was a brief silence on my phone (maybe 1 - 2 seconds) and then the BT inthe car took over and the call was hands free. I had no idea if that would work and I did not even test it intentionally. It just worked. I thought that was pleasantly surprising.

I'm surprised that it does. Apple loves to stall on their compatibility with outside systems.

I think the problem is on the 370Z headunit side, not the 3G bluetooth profile. In my other car, I have a Pioneer headunit and I can transfer my entire (or at least the first 400 entries) phone book from my iPhone 3G via bluetooth with no issues.

Actually the iPhone is notorious for not allowing phonebook entries to be transferred to a bunch of different head units. I have an iPhone but Apple could have done much better with the iPhone.

What ever will we do on the 19th when the 3G-S is released?

No major problems with the 370/iPhone 3G linkage. Overall, it works quite well in terms of handing control back and forth between the phone and the head unit.

However, it is slightly annoying that you can't transfer your phone book. I'm not sure it's entirely fair to blame Nissan for that, however, given that Apple is rather restrictive about head unit interfaces.

The other annoyance is the muted/muffled sound that people say I sound like while on bluetooth. It's not too bad driving slowly in areas that don't generate a lot of tire roar, but I get a lot of complains about sound quality at highway speeds. Even cranked up to full volume, I often have trouble making out exactly what people are saying. I'm hoping that the new iPhone firmware support for stereo bluetooth may help this, but I'm not exactly sure where the weak link is (the iPhone, AT&T or the car's bluetooth)...

Phonebook transfer works from iPhone to Eclipse head units too.

The microphone problem is on the Nissan side as well. The stereo bluetooth on my old head unit with the same iPhone 3g was much clearer and I think it was because the microphone was in the driver's visor instead of in the middle.

I have heard there is a microphone sensitivity adjustment on the nav unit but I have not found any reference in the user guide. Has anyone successfully got the sensitivity increased so it doesn't sound like you are on the other side of the room for callers? Has anyone put in an after-market mic closer to the visor?

I am getting my 370Z next week so I have only played around with it after pairing my phone for a test drive.

Does anyone know if the callerid information is passed from the iPhone to the 370Z headunit? I have heard some people say yes but Nissan's bluetooth site says "N" for Caller ID.

On the 19th of this month the iPhone will have a software update. It say that the bluetooth will allow the iPhone be able to play songs through any Bluetooth capable systems. I can't wait!

cwj370 06-13-2009 07:44 AM

my car shows caller id from my phone(iphone)

Phimosis 06-13-2009 02:15 PM

It's only call id'ing the number and not the name thought, right? If you get the name, how did you make that happen?

cwj370 06-13-2009 06:09 PM

No name just number.

dboccabella 06-13-2009 08:34 PM

But if you entered the name/number matchup in the 370z stereo address book, it translates the number to the name, right?
