Cop wants to race?

Crazy situation this morning on the way to work. Twice while stopped at traffic lights, an unmarked Police Cruiser next to me “chirped” his tires as the light turned green only to slow down to the posted 40 mph limit. I let him go by and found it quite amusing. He later hit his lights and spun around to brighten someone else’s morning. Lastly, at no time did my radar detector go off. All kind of funny and weird.

m4a1mustang 10-28-2010 07:46 AM

Haha... probably having a good time. I know some cops will beat on their cars pretty hard because they don't have to pay for them. :icon18:

We do, though. :(

Not quite as exciting, but this morning I watched a Maid Cleaning Services Toyota Sienna peel out at a light. :icon18:

ClemsonWill 10-28-2010 07:47 AM

He was trying to set you up!

phantom21 10-28-2010 08:08 AM

You should have pulled him over and did a citizen's arrest for laying drag...then went all Reno 911 on him for "resiting arrest".

USMCASA 10-28-2010 08:36 AM

around here the sheriff's dept has a blacked out zo6 that they try to "entrap" street racers with.

My friends who live in Arkansas in a small town told me the cops would line 'em up and run each other late at night/early AM.

First month of having my Z, the wife and I were sitting at a light with a minivan full of elderly ladies who were revving their engine and had the windows down trying to egg me into lighting up the tires when the light turned green. I couldn't stop laughing long enough to comply with their request.

Careful, my grandparent's minivan would run 15's stock according to Road/Track.

I know it won't take out a new Z, but that could shock a few older Civic's, etc. lol

Correct. It's just general police douchebaggery. ;)

kenchan 10-28-2010 09:36 AM

there was a cop that gave me a thumbs up when we both accelerated in a moderately fastly motion...

kenchan 10-28-2010 09:41 AM

..but then there was a trooper that used its megaphone while driving in my blind spot telling me to pay attention to what's going on around me... (wasn't speeding but did kinda blast into the expressway) :ugh2:

i knew he was there from the get go but pretended like i just landed from Japan... hai, ichi ni san. i like sukiyaki and teriyaki and...

he liked that.

I don't think that is considered entrapment just because they have a blacked out z06. It depends what they do to create a entrapment situation. But if some ricer kid does a burnout next to this z06 then that is just grounds for a nice ticket/impounded car/arrest.

ThoriumHotdog 10-28-2010 12:29 PM

Oh man. I've got stories but they're not forum friendly....

cab83_750 10-28-2010 12:34 PM

Don't forget that fast acceleration from 0 mph to speed limit is ground for a ticket called "exhibitionism"

wear your trenchcoat! :)

indeed its just ignorant people who don't watch the news that see a black z06 flying up beside them and then revving and taking off to get you to race that think its entrapment. now if you are a highschool kid who has something to prove because you have a small wiener then go ahead and get a ticket. i just smile and wave because yes his z06 is built and faster but i enjoy my Z more :driving:

ThoriumHotdog 10-28-2010 01:06 PM

Either that police department wrote up a ton of tickets or the taxpayers are getting hosed. I see no reason for the police to have a Z06. That money could have went to any number of better causes.

One_Quick_Z 10-28-2010 01:20 PM

Yes be glad you didnt race him it was a set up

Alot of those "specialty" police cars are obtained as a result of illegal activities of others etc......They keep them and use them for undercover use!

:iagree: Cops suck. I hate em! I got pulled over by an old high school friend for out of date tags (in a company car), and what do you know I got a ticket. BTW this is the same friend that would smoke w@@d with us at parties after the ball games! Lol!!:shakes head:

theDreamer 10-28-2010 04:14 PM

Many unique cop cars are impound cars they turn into cop cars.
Though really, in many places they need those cars. Houston has been stepping up its ghost cars with upgrades to combat street racers. Factory V8 is nice, but a few bolt ons and it gives the cop that extra advantage against street racers who run.

Snakebite202 10-28-2010 04:22 PM

I agree with the imounded car statemets - The only force (I know of) that bought fast cars (V8 camaros) was the Florida HP. I have read many stories of impounded street racer or drug cars being turned into undercover cars and it cost the tax payers little or nothing.

fuct 10-28-2010 04:28 PM

yeah in houston they use impounded vehicles as bait cars. you race em and their buddy is right around the bend......

********!!!!

LuckyJinx 10-28-2010 04:34 PM

Some cops here would pull you over just to look and hear your car lol, they're.cool though.

About a month ago I was at a stoplight waiting to get onto an onramp to a highway, and in front of me was a blacked out Charger. When the light turned green, he peeled out and went flying up onto the highway. I got onto the highway at a normal speed, and once I got on, he slowed down in the passing lane and made me come up beside him (I kept going the speed limit). He revved it a few times, jumping ahead, then slowing down, and then floored it and took off. A few seconds later, my radar detector lit up full bars. Considering he was the only one on the highway and cops like Chargers, I'm pretty sure it was an unmarked trying to get me to race, and he flipped on his radar to see if I took the bait. Thought it was odd he completely went out his way to try to get me to do something.. So yeah, to OP, I don't doubt it one bit he was trying to do the same to you.

it was a drug seizure and yes taxpayers freaked out when they said they were going to put the car into service instead of auctioning it.

had a NC state highway patrol supervisor do that to me. i passed a car on the right that was poking *** in the fast lane(about 10mph under the speedlimit) and i didn't notice it was a cop till i saw the silver stripe on the side. i might have been doing 5 over but he mashed his brakes hard and got in behind me and lit me up. when he got up along me first thing he said was "man this is a nice car" and gave me a verbal warning while him and another cop checked out the Z.

cant stand guys like that, big double stanards asses. I would sneak and follow and record them and then put it on the internet.

LuckyJinx 10-28-2010 08:01 PM

If you're zoomin passed them, they'd stop you. If your going about 5-10 above probably not.1 because your driving a really nice car and they think you could afford the ticket, plus too much paperwork. I always go 10 past them. I'm not afraid.

shawn370z 10-28-2010 08:27 PM

I Got Pulled over the 1st day i bought my 370 on 1/9/10.. & i was going 50 ON 60 speed limit... y he pulled me over... no reason?? he just asked me how u like it & said i bet it's fastt.. & then let me go.. LOL....

steveg78 10-28-2010 09:07 PM

I moved to DE in Aug and commute to MD daily. I noticed a blacked out mustang in the center "utility" road that connects the north and south bound lanes of I95. At first I thought it was the same douche trying to avoid a toll or something but then I saw him with someone pulled over. So MD troopers have a blacked out stang.

On another note, I was pulled over on 95 last friday doing 81 in a 65. My honest excuse was a Prius merged on and got right in the center lane so I maneuvered around him and may have laid into the pedal a tad whilst doing this. I didn't bother explaining this to him but my 2 NJ PBA cards and he saw my DoD ID and let me go with a warning. I was very appreciative for that!

P.S. he did say "370??? I've seen 350s but never a 370" LOL

Jack370Z 10-29-2010 12:33 AM

Next time one of the Nation's Finest tries to "trick" you into that...just fall in behind him (don't tailgate) and dial 911. Tell the dispatcher you're following a possible DUI...some guy driving crazy. Give the tag number and tell them you'll stay on the line with them till an officer catches up and gets him pulled over and checked out...that could be fun.

Oh, if it is against the law to use your phone while driving don't do that...
