How far can you go once the fuel indicator turns to dashes?

Today the fuel gauge showed two LED lights and the screen showed I have 50 miles left.

Then it turned to one LED light, then i saw the screen go from

41...38...35...33...31...29...28 -> _ _ _ (3 blinking dashes)

in a matter of about 4 miles(10 minutes) on local roads.

Then I found a gas station and filled up the tank. 17 gallons.

At what point does the last LED turn off, anybody knows? and how much further can i drive before the car runs out of fuel?

lol im never gonna try to find out

The 370Z's LED gauge fluctuates too much at the top and bottom. At least with an analog gauge, you can see how close the needle is getting to the stop peg.

If you filled up 17 gallons that means you had 2 gallons left so you could go about 40 miles until it was empty, depending on your type of driving.

The gauge is useless, I am consider filing an investigation claim with NHTSB. I hope you guys can join me

That is not how it works... lol.. I never drive w/ less than 3 leds - one hard turn w/ that little gas = fuel starvation... has happened to me a couple of times... very annoying issue to deal w/

cab83_750 10-28-2010 01:43 AM

Inaccurate gas gauge + fuel starvation = "disaster"

always try to fill up at 4 dots. Stay in low gear and low speed until the next station.

I haven't ever had the starvation issue. But it does kind of concern me.

im in for that.

Dont drive w anything under a 1/4 tank.. as per personal experiance... i somehow managed to run out of gas with three dots left and 78 miles till empty. dont know how it happened but that dealer said that their is nothing wrong with my fuel sender or the gauge. i wouldnt let it go past a 1/4 tank.

Yeah, I hate going under 1/4 tank in any car. Especially on long trips. I tend to fill up before I even hit 1/4 tank everywhere I go... a little paranoid I am. :icon17:
