I had zero oil consumption up until 40k miles. Every oil change for me since then, 6k intervals, has been 1/2 to a quart low. All my previous cars did the same thing as they got higher in mileage. Maybe its me, but if you google the issue or take the car to a mechanic they will tell you it is normal behavior. Maybe I need to get my car retuned.

2009 here with 24K on it, zero oil usage between 3000 to 3750 mile oil changes using PYB Baby!

For reference, Porsche will tell you that 1qt/1000 miles is allowable.

So if your Z used "some" oil (or no oil at all), consider yourself lucky.

That's the general rule of thumb for most manufacturers. My 2010 roadster started out consuming oil (got it with 2.4K on its ticker, probably with factory fill still and it was > 1qt low when I first checked it). Based on my driving conditions, I run 6m OCIs and by 20K consumption had fallen to 1 qt between changes of about 5K miles.

I have run up to 7500 mi on a OC (always using 5/30 Pennzoil Ultra to date). 38K now, added .5 qt after about 4K miles

This is completely normal for any car IMHO.

Yup! I fully agree about general rule of thumb. I think the "irritation" here is that some engines do not consume and some do consume. If consumption was uniform, then mass confusion would not exist.

Let's put it this way: my synthetic costs me $12.xx/qt. if my interval is 7,000 miles, this would cost me an additional $84.00, mininum, between OC. I would rather be the guy who has no oil consumption.

Default Oil Consumption on a New Z

I've been using the NEO since the car was delivered and did early oil changes at 700 and 2300 miles with the Fram Ultra synthetic filter. I observed no signs of metal particles in the oil either time when it was changed. I have done a careful and gentle break in over the 1st 2K miles, with RPMs below 4K and no hard acceleration. The engine is smooth and quiet and seems to be running quite well.

I have just put 1100 miles on the engine since my last oil change at 2300 miles and the oil consumed was exactly 1/2 cup(4 oz). This works out to about 1 quart every 8800 miles, so I am very impressed. I've had some old clunkers that consumed almost as much oil as gas and so I'm very happy with this engine. Is this normal or typical for this engine or did I just maybe get lucky with an engine that was made with tight tolerances?

I have never heard of NEO oil until very recently. It is a very small company in Socal. I think they also offer transmission and differential fluids.

How is NEO compared to Mobil-1 and the like?
