New speeding laws...TT, why bother?

How about a mandatory chip that would "sync up" with whatever the speed limit is on the road you are driving on. It would then act like a governor/limiter with the max speed being whatever the posted sign is.

But are they really looking to stop speeding or are they just using "public safety" as an excuse to generate revenue?

Unfortunately the Government adopts a blanket approach to speeding. The other thing is if the Government was REALLY serious about reducing the road toll, they would focus and adopt other measures to reduce the road toll, ie, more police on the road that use common sense and stop drivers who are blatantly driving at risk, not drivers who may be travelling fast but perfectly safely. Driver education, better roads, less traffic, better and cheaper public transport to entice the average "appliance" driver to take public transport, more on the spot drug tesating for suspicious looking drivers and more. These measures would reduce the road toll. Don't forget that considering the increase in population the road toll has actually gone down. Driving should be a privilege
and not a right, there are far too many drivers out there that should not be allowed to drive.

You can't be serious. Do you really want Big Brother directly controlling your life like that???

I'd rather keep the freedoms that I currently have and keep the government out of my life as much as possible.

Discretion is up to the cop. Bottom line, if they decide to ticket you, then all those charges are mandatory for 1st offense, including impounding your car for a week. And man, I don't even wanna get into charges for a second ticket!
