370z || Evo || WRX

Just curious... instead of searching the web rather see peoples opinions on this...

STOCK 370z vs
STOCK EVO X vs
STOCK Impreza WRX.

For both straight and track?
What you guys think?

I'd suggest driving all three and then making a decision. All are quick but each carries a different 'image' with it. I obviously have the 370 and went with a friend who looked at the STI and the Evo. The STI feels cheap inside and is very quick. The Evo has a nicer interior finish than the STI. Both have back seats which the Z does not. After driving and seeing all three, you'll know where you fall pretty quickly. Otherwise this thread will go on for 100 pages of people talking up one car or the other.

The Evo would have us for lunch, track or straight.

I can carry more stuff in the Subie.

Test drove both in the real early shopping stages and quickly discarded them as choices, though I'd LOVE the Evo as a track/autox car. I wanted a DD with a bit more "curb appeal". So it moved up to a used German coupe/sports car or a new Z...

...I'm a sucker for the "new car smell", even if it's not the most sense financially. ;)

Z wins in all forms stock.. look at car and driver lightning lap.. done! END THREAD!

GoBoost 09-19-2010 11:29 AM

I owned a very nicely modified Evo X for 2 years....

Had no heartache leaving her for the 370z.... Honestly I enjoy the driving experience of the Z much better!

i think you dont need 4 doors and 2 childseats to go fast. :ugh2:

Phrausty 09-19-2010 12:39 PM

For straights 370z would win, track EvoX should come out on top, don't know how it posted lower times on FastestLaps, there are a lot of 'magazine drivers' who don't know how to work the Evo MR's SST, including the Stig from top gear. Also, the 2008 ECU mapping for the Evo were severely detuned rich from the factory, I don't know what they were thinking, the 2010 map makes it a lot quicker, 4.8/9 0-60

You have to look at what you plan to do with your car, how much you want your power:mod ratio to be, you have to determine if you want a 2 seater vs a 5 seater, how the car feels to you, do you want turbo or N/A?

Both the 370 and Evo are great cars. IMO, if you want to keep it stock, the 370z is a nice car. If you're going to mod I'd go with the Evo, I'd skip out on the WRX since I always hear about their engines blowing up.

kevin1985912 09-19-2010 01:13 PM

Unless you are going to TT or SC your Z, the evo and sti has a lot more potential to make more power with little mods.

AndyZ 09-19-2010 01:21 PM

i did own 08 STI, and loved car
only thing came up, the engine blowed up and stealership raped me up

both nice car, TT 370z so much fun to drive lol

WarmAndSCSI 09-19-2010 02:07 PM

5 minutes in EcuFlash and I could make any stock Evo X kick a 370Z's ass on the highway, in a straight line, in auto x, or during a HPDE.

It's not a better car, no, but for pretty much free I can make one faster than a lot of cars. That potentially makes it a MUCH better tuner's car.

JayYoon 09-19-2010 03:00 PM

I know that when it comes to potential 370z is not the most bright car when compared to evo x. The thing i wanna know is STOCK. Because ever time this question gets asked it always get side track "i know someone that will own blah blah blah..." So stock. I am assuming Z would do better on straight ways?

What does it matter? I don't know a single person with an Evo X who hasn't had it flash tuned. You're never going to find one like that on the street unless it just came off the lot or some old man is driving it....

But yes, the Z has better straight-line acceleration, but a skilled driver in an Evo X would be neck-and-neck with the Z from a dig. It has a better power band overall and superior launching ability (1.8 sec 60' is entirely possible on the stock clutch and stock tires).

rj45 09-19-2010 03:21 PM

I traded my '08 STi for the Z. The Z feels like a higher quality car...tighter, better interior materials, etc. The Z also feels faster, with better low-end torque. The STi motor in stock form doesn't run too well, it has flat spots and hesitations (a known issue due to emissions requirements), plus it doesn't feel that fast for a turbo car. A tune helps (and gets you more power), but it may not remove the choppy performance altogether.

It's a nice car, just not great. I think it needs direct injection to make good power, meet the current emissions/fuel economy standards and run smoothly. I wouldn't buy another STi unless it gets DI and like 350hp...a dual-clutch trans would be cool, too. DCT's and turbos make a good combination...no boost loss between gears. Then, the STi would be real fun.

Unless you're gonna mod the STi (or you need AWD or the additional passenger/cargo room), I would recommend the Z.

I don't know anybody that has a stock evo, you don't buy a evo and leave it stock. So the chances are you are never gonna run into some evo that's stock.

370z got better track time than evo X by 2 seconds in topgear. But STI has better track time than both cars. In terms of sporty and sexy looking car, I'd say stick with 370z. Come on, do you really wanna pick up your girl in a hatch back?(sti) or do you really wanna pick up your girl in a car that looks like kim jung ill? (evo x)

kenchan 09-19-2010 04:36 PM

wat does the Z look like? a catfish? :D

That's been the only time that the 370Z has ousted the Evo X on a track, stock for stock. Go look at all of the other results.

The STi actually tied the Evo X on their track as well; where do you get your info from?

And nobody gives a damn about quarter mile times unless they have a mullet.

how long does it take to make a choice. the evo is butt ugly.

put all 3 side by side the 370 wins hands down, looks, styling, handling,
the 370 turns heads.

MawdR8 09-19-2010 07:08 PM

Play around with the site a little - that's a system-generated comment :icon14: :icon14: :icon14: :icon14:

I'm done posting on this site for a while... too much ignorance around here for my tastes.

If any of you are curious, go compare track times from a 2010 Evo X GSR vs. a 2010 370Z. Both cars had 1 MY to sort out any tuning issues, and you'll find they're nearly identical on the track, stock-for-stock.

nuTinmuch 09-19-2010 07:38 PM

If we have another bad winter I might consider an Evo X.

Just sayin'.

They are great cars and I personally think it looks just as good as the Z though in a different sort of way. I'd only be wary of Mitsubishi as I've heard a lot of complaints about them -- though I honestly have no idea as all of this has been on the internet.
