Was this a heavy traffic area? There might be traffic cams in that area that would have caught something. its worth a shot to check it out and possibly contact the DOT.

Good thought....and yes, there are many traffic cams around that area. Basically they call it the "Mixing Bowl" because three highways (95, 395, & 495) all meet in some way. I'll have to see what I can find out....thanks!

Well, here you go....a few pics of the damage. The first hit looks like it happened just to the right of the Nissan and it rode up the hood from there:
