If they plan to drop power like that, they better figure out how to shave weight off the Z. Our cars are fat pigs.

Hmm. They could possibly go the FT-86 route and get the weight down to sub 3K lbs or they could bring a turbo into the equation I suppose...

Actually, a diesel-hybrid motor + turbo could make great power and have great gas mileage. Tuned right, boost could come on late (preserving MPG under normal driving) and the car would still feel torquey thanks to the electric motor doing the lowspeed grunt work.

I just drove a C63 the other day. Very nice car!

I'm not feeling the hybrid turbo idea though.

in terms of power i kinda feel like the z is stuck...If they add a decent amount of power to comepete with the new 5.0 and other cars, there is only so much they can do..think about it..if the z came with 400 or so hp who would buy a gtr...in gtr news i saw that the refresh is coming in 2012...500hp and other new things.

I like that idea better. Maybe they bump the GTR with a V8. With no plans for changes to the Z until 2014 or later, it certainly seems possible. Althogh an NA variant is more likely.

This would be ideal. They will want to move the GTR up the ladder to keep it's dominance anyway. You know Porsche is gunning for them and the 3.8 work is already done. Detuning a bit and mass producing will bring costs down. A turbo and non-turbo model will let them hit price targets.

Because Nissan doesn't have an association to BMW?

V8's and TT's? Yeah, I don't think so. We're in the second malaise era if you hadn't noticed. HP won't increase unless MPG increases accordingly. CAFE requirements are becoming loftier and will override the incredible HP advances (engine efficiency) we've seen in recent (10-15) years. I suspect we'll see cars with better power-to-weight ratios though as more money is put into materials rather than grunt.

Nissan has done TT's in the Z before and if we are in a second malaise era, none bothered to tell Nissan, Ford, Chevy, Chysler, BMW, or many other companies currently push the most HP in their history on mid model sports cars.
