What would you like to add delete or change about the 370Z

First let me say I have not been to a dealership to see or test drive the car, I haven't even seen one on the road yet. I was not even aware of the car till about two weeks ago. So all my thoughts and info comes from magazines and online forums and Youtube. So if I say something silly remember I have no real experience with the car. I hope people with real experiences (owners) will post their thoughts.

I guess the first things I'd like to see change about the car are the few negatives I've read about. It would be great if they were factory fixes but they seem like things owners or the aftermarket could take care of as well.

The noise from the rear wheel wells.

The engine oil temps after track time or who knows maybe even after fun runs at Deal's Gap aka Tail of the Dragon or other such roads. I would think the best fix would be internal engine changes whatever they would be, oil pump, sump/oil pan changes ( again just guessing I know not of what I speak ) and the next best fix being an external oil cooler.

Lastly I've read a lot of negatives about the left most gauge that has the fuel and temp and other functions. I like the idea of a multi function universal gauge, I guess it just needs to look or work different somehow. Maybe more like the PLX Devices universal gauges where you can customize the display and output info.

Another thing I'd like to see added is a digital speed readout, I would not change the analog speedo at all but if you could toggle the odometer and A/B trip miles display to also show digital speed that would be great or maybe in the tach instead of showing what gear you are in ( useful on a motorcycle but seems unnecessary in a car ) have the speed displayed there. Keep the little S window so you know if you're in Sport mode or not.

I'd also like to see the Nav package available for both the 370Z and 370Z Touring just like the Sport package is.

I can't seem to find the video again on Youtube but there was one taken at night from the passenger side, the driver was playing with the rev matching and it looked like the three gauges in the center of the car were red and the tach and speedo seemed to be blue ( again I could be wrong about that ) if that's correct I think I'd like all the displays to be the same color.

Almost done!! I wish the car had come with direct fuel injection ( maybe at some point it will ) and the color may be a little played out now but I would love to see the car available in a Satin Black. Lastly an option of a true Targa top. Not like the current Porsche Targa where there is still roof on the sides and it slides back over or under the rear window but like the old 911's had or Magnum's Ferrari or Corvette or Supra.

par4bmw 03-02-2009 10:41 AM

Do not mind the LCD display. Have 35% tints and here in SUNNY Phx I have had no problems with glare, yet anyway.

Would add:

- Memory seats & mirrors on the touring package. With the limited visibility, I like my mirrors and seat in my spot. After my wife drives, it takes me a while to find those exact setting again.

- Inside hatch release. While sitting in the car, it would be nice to pop the hatch when someone is walking up that has something to go in it.

- Analog clock vs the digital one on the navigation package. Make the hands look like the other dials needle and do the numbering to look like the orange numbers and hatch marks on the other gauges.

That is it so far. It has most things right in my view.

SoCal 370Z 03-02-2009 11:19 AM

  • Analog clock
  • Oil Cooler
  • Distinctive Intelligent Remote catering to the Z
  • Glovebox iPod connections
  • Second rear deck compartment behind driver's seat
  • Overhead console sunglasses holder
  • Hard rubber vs. hard plastic front chin spoiler
  • Cargo net standard
  • Missing tools supplied
  • TPMS readout in lbs.

I was a little confused in the title being what would you add/delete and then the thread talking about tire noise and the glare, etc. There already is the thread linked above to discuss gripes. I suggest this thread be targeted at what adds/deletes people would like to see Nissan do for the Z.

!xoible 03-02-2009 11:56 AM

delete the butthole thing in the rear
delete the teeth in the front
make the front grill all black like the GT-R, or Evo X
add transparent roof
fix the shifter to absorb vibration

import111 03-02-2009 12:10 PM

Add:
-oil cooler
-more torque and power
-9.5 wide front wheels

Delete:
-More weight

FairmanZ 03-02-2009 02:23 PM

Add:
- Oil cooler & Diff cooler or some better fix for Track overheating issue (Top Priority)
- Aluminum pedals to base model
- Retro look (i.e. 240Z-ish) enclosed headlights
- Butt hole fix: Fog light or color coded Z emblem cover or different rear bumper

OK, Factory TT option without all the extras that more than double the price of the car. :D

b534202 03-04-2009 01:32 AM

Delete? I'll delete 2000 lbs from the Z. FTW :D

My wishlist of changes/improvements so far, bearing in mind that I'm in the UK and haven't seen one in real life yet! (I'm sure I'll think of more)...

Electrics & Audio...
  1. Electrically retracting wing mirrors, like the 350Z has already.
  2. Indicators in the wing mirrors.
  3. More stylish/sporty, maybe smaller wing mirrors. The current ones are too chunky still.
  4. LEDs in the headlights.
  5. USB port, for all the music on my memory sticks.
  6. A 'dipped beam' indicator light in the instrument cluster, as well as the 'full beam' indicator light. I'm right in thinking the 370z doesn't have this, aren't I?
  7. A less bright blue 'full beam' indicator light. I hear it's too strong a light.

Interior...
  1. Guages more similar to 350z please - (if it ain't broke, don't mess it up).
  2. 350z-style gear knob - it was better.

Engine & mechanicals...
  1. 350bhp (partly by losing weight?).
  2. Brembo badge on the brake calipers, just because I prefer it to the word 'Nissan'.
  3. A lot more torque AND longer first & second gears.
  4. Quality exhaust system.
  5. Some chips and very long bolts.
  6. Adjustable suspension.

Bodywork...
  1. Wheel arches that are slightly more snug for a 19" wheel.
  2. Slightly lower ride height (-1"?).
  3. Even wider wheel arches, especially the rear - which probably means making the trunk area more narrow, rather than widening the actual arch.
  4. Lose the fridge door handles, leaving hardly anything - maybe just a button and a lock.
  5. No lumps & bumps in the front & rear lamps.
  6. 'Z' badges front & rear, instead of the Nissan burgers - they will never do this, of course.
  7. More attention to the side skirt area.
  8. Headlamp washers (EU) that don't spray your nice clean bodywork.
  9. A more aggressive-looking front view.
  10. Redesign of that over-large rear number plate recess - it's my least favourite part of the entire body of the car.
  11. Make the front windscreen slope a little more (ie, less vertical, more sleek).
  12. Hydraulic struts to lift & support the bonnet (hood).

...and a few thousand £/$ off the price :yum:

Well, you asked, didn't you? Maybe Nissan will take this list and make my mini-dreams come true with a facelift model soon

Zpil0t6 03-06-2009 09:30 AM

This oil temp issue. Its got to be easier than a cooler.... dilute the coolant with more water.....as Antifreeze is coolant...and unless your in uunder 30* temps... a 70 water 30 coolant mix is best. And use synthetic...go to 0w 30 or mix in 1 quart of 0w 40 in with the rest. again using the top synthetics. I'll bet this is happening to cars with front plates?????

I'm having troube with Nissan not engineeering this vehicle for any extended forrays at 105 %

ArtVandaleigh 03-07-2009 03:40 PM

I definitely miss the per wheel TPMS readouts and digital speedo. Little things too like the lack of sunglasses holder in the top, homelink/autodim rear view mirror that you can only get in the touring package (should be an option IMO). Base audio system is still very weak, especially with forgoing rear speakers. Smaller mirrors would be nice, they are gigantic.

Educ8r 03-07-2009 06:19 PM

Yikes, I'm assuming you aren't going to purchase a 370!

I never said that! Still undecided - the urge may get too strong. ;)

AndreZ Cadena 03-21-2009 11:06 AM

Individual TPMS.
Fix the supposed oil temp problems (havent seen it myself).
Replace fuel and water temp with traditional gauges.
Direct Injection.

Thats it. This car is pretty solid already. Like this dude--->:ughdance:

batman_4 03-21-2009 01:06 PM

the only thing that gets to me it the light switch (paddle). i hate how to get to the only corners on you have to go through the AUTO feature....they should have put that at the end of the settings.

oh and they could have done a better job on the ipod adapter menu...hate having to scroll through letters without knowing what letter im passing up

Pushing_Tin 03-21-2009 02:36 PM

Add heated mirrors, sport/track setting for stability control. Add more sound insulation to the rear wheel wells. Add telescoping steering wheel and inside fuel release.

The LCD dots for fuel and temp is lame, but it works fine, and I have no problem seeing mine in bright light. The addition of cross-drilled rotors would be a nice addition too.

alan93rsa 03-21-2009 07:04 PM

Oil/trans cooler.

BurntGauge 03-21-2009 11:08 PM

I would say delete 400-500 lbs, add 30 hp more.

Anatoray 03-22-2009 12:39 AM

I would place the ipod adapter someplace else, like in the glove box, or maybe in the middle of the shelf space right behind the seats. Having to sacrifice one of the cup holders for it to me is ironic, because I'm only going to use it on a longer trip where i'll need the cup holders for drinks.

Zpil0t6 03-22-2009 09:57 AM

1.Twin turbo, with built in methanol port injection,
2. In cabin coilover controls
3.Ok Oil cooler, bigger tranny cooler
4 a spec v version....lower weighted sport package with as much weight loss as possible. factory intake and exhaust mods. 350 hp crank.

Musashi 03-22-2009 06:48 PM

All I would ask for is a better stock exhaust and a dead pedal for the manual to rest my foot, lol

Maybe my mind is playing a trick on me, but I thought I remembered a dead pedal on my test drive this weekend.

It's there but barely! needs to be about an inch taller.
So when you gonna step up to the plate and buy the car? You wont be disappointed!!!

Finished all my test driving this past weekend, have all numbers from near by dealerships (first round) and will probably go back and just say invoice or bust. I am hoping at the end of the month to put my order in, trying to line up all my points first. Writing a check to pay off my current car, getting the right deal then ordering. I know exactly what I want, and with all the information I have already gained, I know what to do right away, just trying to find out also if there is no coming in that meets my needs.

dustyroads 03-23-2009 01:11 PM

How about a real LSD? (Torsen or other)

tvfreakazoid 03-23-2009 03:31 PM

Damn if they made a spec v version it will probably will almost double in price. Hell look at the gtr spec v. SCARY

WOW way too much weight deletions. It won't be possible w/o taking out the a/c unit and every other luxury items. But another 100 to 200 lbs and add about 30 more hp and more TQ. The weight part seems to me to be more realistic. Oh and get rid of the bulky A** door handle and add led lighting on the front head lights.

dreamer I got mine at invoice and they didn't even have the car on the lot. I used edmunds.com for my research. good luck.

I hope you're joking. That would be like driving a 330HP Kleenex box or essentially an Ariel Atom

http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...2-Clarkson.jpg

Zpil0t6 03-24-2009 11:10 AM

i think 200lbs is reasonable....it could be done. then add a funtional intake and exhaust with cat delete ( where legal).

that should bump it to 350 crank....and it would weigh what? 3100 ...3078

With a presnt 0-60 of 4.7 and 13.3 1/4 you find it right at 13 flat maybe even 12.9 and likely an amazing 4.5 0-60....

yeah it would cost more....you'd have to use CF peices to get the weight down. I don't see anything over 300lbs weight loss without getting into real major changes.

they should offer a factory S/C.....but it would interfere with the GTR sales.
the Z is already more car than the GTR inside group imagined.

And there is an internal fued between the Z guys and the GTR guys. i think i read it on this forum...or in a magazine....

And its a big fued. You put TT on the Z and you have a rwd GTR. almost.

braking and handling wouldn't be affected.. and the Z is right up there with top dogs in that respect.....making it the seriously fun car it is.

10k TT factory upgrade.. I'd pay 42,500 for that.

Unicorn_blood 06-02-2009 01:21 AM

No butthole, black fangs, 19x9.5F, 19x10.5R wheels

What he said, plus: Replace the clock with an oil pressure gauge (have the radio display the clock), add an air conditioned drivers seat (or even both seats, individually controlled), and provide the rear fog lamp to US-delivered cars.

jmlenz 06-03-2009 02:21 PM

Mostly minor gripes but her they are...

1) replace weird water/fuel gauge thingy w/analog (obvious)
2) delete or make rear fog active
3) option to delete spoiler on sport package
4) some kind of LED DRLs would be a nice touch
5) make door handle touch sensitive for opening instead of using little button (like every other smart key car Ive owned)
6) reduce some engine/transmission NVH
7) make homelink, bluetooth, nav etc stand alone options (my perfect Z is not possible now...base + sport + 6spd + bluetooth + homelink)

Now the wish list, maybe for refresh 2-3yrs down the road...

1) stripped down, cheaper version of GTR dual clutch!!!! please!!!
2) direction injection for a few more ponies, better emissions/+mpg
3) new front bumper w/o fangs and larger inlet (handy for those going FI:tup:)
4) back-up camera!!!

fly yellow 06-03-2009 06:56 PM

1.)Add the back up camera with the nav package. It isn't a huge deal. I have been driving 21 years without a backup camera, but it isn't difficult to do either.

2.) Put the Infiniti G37s driver's seat with memory in with the touring package. Those seats are 15 way adjustable and much better for "inspired" driving.

3) Illuminated kickplates should be standard with the touring package. The standard ones are cheap.

4) Stitch a "Z" on the back of the seats

5) do away with the black hole on American spec vehicles.

travisjb 06-04-2009 12:50 AM

Overall, a stripped down barely street legal version of the z, with nissan motorsports parts, roll cage, racing seats and optional factory supercharger for under $50K... kind of like a 911 cup car but for the weekend racer on a tighter budget

Details... more accurate gauges... an oil pressure gauge... an OEM version of Traqmate... AND A FACTORY OIL COOLER :)

37Z 06-25-2009 08:04 PM

New Spec 370Z Wish List

  • Rear diffusor (one that is actually aerodynamically efficient)
  • Oil cooler with oil pressure gauge in the third center gauge stack (ie. replaces the redunant clock)
  • HU & speaker delete option at purchase
  • Lighter (5-point harness) seats
[/LIST]
