Auto Guard Paint Protection. What's the deal?

When I bought my 370 in March, the Nissan dealer offered me Auto Guard paint protection for $800 describing it as a clear coat spray that gets repeated every 6 months for 4 years. I refused at the time, but they listed me as having purchased it anyway. Today, they called and said I'm due for a treatment, I told them they made an error, and the guy said "well, you're listed as having it so just come get it."

So, potentially free Auto Guard for me. Do you guys know anything about this stuff? It sounds different from Clear Bra which is specifically for stone protection and only gets sprayed on the front bumper, hood, and rocker panels. This Auto Guard stuff goes on all of the paint and is marketed by Nissan as a clear coat rejuvenation. They claim it's ok to spray over existing chips and scratches and doesn't preclude you from respraying the car in the future.

Any input or advice you guys have would be much appreciated. If it's worth doing since it's free, I might as well. However, I don't want any headaches in the future when I'll eventually respray my hood and front fascia.

not sure...but clear bras are sheets of clear laminate film...

ask the dealership if it is 3m.

Yeah, i went round and round about it with the dealer. The system looks like a little touchless carwash and apparently sprays the whole car with some kind of clear coat polymer. They describe it as 'sealing the paint...protects against sun fading and oxidation...removes and protects against small swirls and scratches". Definitely not as robust as Clear Bra or a 3M product. As long as there aren't any downsides, I might as well get it. Free is free.

so it sprays the windows and all the weather stripping and tires too?

Seems like it. Check it out: AutoGuard Inc.

At first I thought it was either automated in the sense that it could spray accurately for different models to only spray painted surfaces. Then I thought they might just tape off the windows, etc. From that link, it looks like it just sprays the **** all over everything.

looks like a drive thru car waxer to me...i suspect its just a fully automated waxer...

definatley not worth 800 bucks...but if their doing it for free, cant hurt...

i wax my baby and it takes about 4 hours from start to finish...its time consuming...

Yep, I'm thinking it's just a waxer/polisher. I do it with my buffer every so often, but hell, let Nissan do it for a change

just make sure their arm lasers are all calibrated...

i went thru a car wash here in town and the stupid arm wasnt calibrated, they had put a new cover over the arm but somehow it caused the laser alignment to become wacked

long story short the arm got hung up on my passenger door mirror and sheared the shearbolt in the arm and when that happened the arm fell against the right fender putting a small dent in it...

i made the owner pay me the 65 bucks to have a paintless dent repair guy fix it...

It's a dealer's way to stiff people for more money that's what that's about. I wouldn't trust the dealer washing my car let alone waxing it. I recommend going the Zaino route and you get the satisfaction of doing it yourself unless you decide to go the laborless route and have the dealer spray your car with their magic wax.

It's junk, pass on it. Also if you care about your Z I wouldn't let the dealer touch it, that includes washing as well. A dirty old brush on the Z's soft clear coat is not a good thing. Go buy some paint sealant and do it your self.

I wouldn't let a dealer spray anything on my car without claybar'ing it first. They said they wouldn't, so I refused.

Why lock that crap in?

Oil all over his garage floor...the oil changed from inside the engine, right out to the bottom of his car.
